Keeping up with common maintenance items is crucial to keeping your Volvo running in perfect order and is generally a simple task in terms of installation. By doing the maintenance yourself you'll save time, money, and you'll know the job was done right. Jay is here to show you how to get this quick and easy job done right.
Spark plugs and ignition coils are often overlooked by average owners since they're only changed once every 50k-100k miles and are usually hidden under layers of plastic or metal. However, they're important in keeping engines running smoothly with no misfires. If you notice a rough idle, intermittent loss of power, or otherwise unusual engine behavior, you may have faulty plugs or coils.

I have a 2006 Volvo S60 that needs ignition coils and am going to attempt it thanks to this video.I got the car 2 years ago for $500 from a relative's mother-in-law. It ran great for the first year, then it became a money pit. I've had the mass airflow intake done and the oil trap and some other things I'm forgetting. This will be the last attempt at saving this car before I get rid of it. Anyone here done the coils for the same model I have and if it went okay or not. The local Volvo dealer wanted to charge me 1K to do it and I said, "Nope!"

the spark plugs are quite tight in my Volvo (2004 S80 T6), was able to loosen all but 2. Don't want to put to much force on them. Left the car cool down for days, but nothing yet. What is your recommendation on loosening up those spark plugs. I bought both plugs and coils at FCP Euro. Also it will be great if you mention in all your great videos, at least the mayor diagnostic clue to replace the part you are replacing. In my case All the sudden the engine started hesitating heavily, seems to recover for few seconds raising RPMs and running fine for few seconds and then hesitates again, some times up to the point to turning off. I starting to doubt that replacing coils and plugs will fix the problem. What FCP euro part should I buy and replace instead?
@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro 6 жыл бұрын
There's only one way to remove them, I'd recommend to try to work them back and forth, tighten, loosen, tighten loosen, etc. Do this until your able to remove them fully. Also, chances are that your vehicle has a check engine light. I recommend to scan the vehicle for DTC's which will give you a direction to follow based on which DTC's populate.

Luis Gonzalez ALWAYS change spark plugs on a cold engine. Do not drive around and then try to just let it cool down some.. do this in a morning when the car has not been ran. Use some anti seize on plugs that aren’t zinc coated torque to 22ftlbs and that won’t happen again

If you have an older XC70 with 305K (as I do), torque settings on dust covers and torsion bars are no longer critical. We're simply trying to keep them running.

I've managed to strip the threads on 2 of the engine cover screw holes just by using a simple small ratchet and I barely put any force on it..

ouch! really? bosch makes their coils and the non-genuine volvo Bosch coils are $42ish from FCP and IPD. Genuine coils from FCP are about $75/ea, if I remember correctly.

FCP Euro I got it off and the car started okay, but now it stalled out and does not want to idle.

FCP Euro I had to use PB Blaster to loosen the plug. Could this have affected the engine? It seemed to have come out the car when I turned it on after the plugs where changed. It idled good and the check engine like was off.

Ironically, it took 30 twists to tighten the spark plug.

God Dammit Volvo engineers it's disgusting to repair, even simple things Goddammit. This company should disappear from the market. Or have a better engineer. Goddammit, Volvo.

What about the top engine mount? The strut bar (suspension arm) kind of makes sense but what was the point of the engine mount?
