Since Volvo is now owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding of China you can now see why the old quality and reliability has gone up the Wazoo

Thanks Jimmy , another great Vid but as you say a”GPF” this time & with just 29K on a 2021 model ? With a replacement engine - why oh why ? Not good enough is it & for a Volvo its piss poor quality, very very worrying mate very worrying indeed 🫠🫠😮😮😣😣

Since volvo was bought by Geely they have been terrible. Their 2 liter 4 clilinder engine do still have some FORD things in it (I have been told about it, no idea if this is 100% accurate) and haven't been update in a very long time. I would say that it is still the same thing from 2017 (when the first xc40 came out) with some minor tweaks. Have a look at a channel called "car care nut review" channel, he will tell you everything about the engine in detail. Why the engine has been changed is beyond me for such a new car. But it is a modern volvo after all. Not the old ford Volvo's or even the very old Volvo's.

@@hadiamrane I had no idea Volvo was now Chinese owned , I bet the price hasn’t changed either . I know before Volvo used the Citroen Peugeot Ford 1.6TDCi DV6 DLD (1560cc) engine block in a lot of their vehicles like as so popular in a lot of other mid sized family saloons (we have it in our 2013 Focus 116HP version without issues) but that one sounded like a 3 cylinder model like Fords ecoboost .
@hadiamrane
@hadiamrane Ай бұрын
@@richie674 We also have the 1.6 HDI in our citroen and when accelerating (especially with the AC on) at low speed it does sound a bit like a 3 cilinder but that is how peugeot made these engines. Great engines, that's for sure. Everytime I hear a pegueot or a citroen (doesn't matter which model) you will recognize it just by the engine sound as there is not a single other vehicle that has that sound. It's hard to describe, but ones you hear it you will know a peugeot or citroen is coming at you. The petrols are the best sounding and very quiet. As for the volvo being chinese: yeah they have been (unfortunately) since 2015/2016. When they first started to make their "new" cars it was very terrible, like really terrible. I remember a very famous youtuber here where I live used to own a 2016 volvo xc90 all speced out, yet, nothing but problems. Everytime he had a new volvo people started to wonder why he kept changing cars and that's because his xc90 was only going to the dealer. So, everytime his vehicle went to the dealer, he had another temporary car to drive from the dealer. Eventually he went to a audi q7. Later on he said everthing about his car in a podcast. Very sad about volvo. I knew they had all sorts of problems, but not to this extend. You have to be lucky to drive one withouth any issues or have to lease it through the company you work for, otherwise, it's a gamble to drive one. In terms of price, they are too expensive. I think a decent xc60 is something like 50k euros new. Second hand there still between 30k and up. Depends on where you are looking.

There's a very high chance the previous engine failure killed the gpf - excess oil burning, coolant down the exhaust etc. The 4 cyl turbo volvo engine is rapidly gaining a rep for piston & ring failure that results in massive oil burning. Since the 3 pot is exactly the same ( -1 hoke) it wouldn't surprise me if they die in the same manner. The cause is silly long oil change intervals.

Jimmy my own nissan qashqui had a problem code with pressure being to low. Live data showed minus 1/2 psi at idle. Manometer said zero. Changed sensor for oem and no further faults since HOWEVER the pressure never goes above about 2psi at 3000 rpm. I just assumed that was correct for petrol. If my own gpf is knackered it doesn't appear to be giving any trouble

What’s E10 got to do with a failed GPF?
@beaublane6309
@beaublane6309 Ай бұрын
@@Mac_F87 it’s done 29 thousand miles and it’s a Volvo , something doesn’t add up , the fuel could be causing it to clog up quicker causing more frequent regens and in turn could caused it to fail , manufactures and trying to make these newer vehicles so economical and personally I don’t think these vehicles like the standard fuel being supplied , IE E10 or supermarket diesel
@Mac_F87

@@beaublane6309 a GPF doesn’t regen like a diesel… So how do you explain the hundreds of thousands of other vehicles that are GPF equipped, whose owners fill them with 95 octane fuel…with no ill effects? Or does that not fit the evil boogy man out to get us conspiracy? Did you ever think it could just be a manufacturing defect with the GPF? Of course not, instantly it’s fuel with 10% ethanol that’s done it. You personally don’t think…ah well that’s got to be fact then. Funny how cars will happily run E85, in fact they will actully make more power but the down side is around 30% more fuel is needed. Given ethanol isn’t as energy dense a petrol. Supermarket diesel? You do realise all fuel comes from the same few refineries…right? The supermarket fuel does not come from backstreet black market source. 😂 Issues with fuel are almost always due to contamination while in storage tanks. 🤦🏻

@@beaublane6309 so what about the hundreds of thousands of other GPF equipped cars that suffer no ill effects while using 95 ron fuel? Or does that not fit the boogy man narrative? Did you ever think it could just manufacturing defect within the GPF? Crazy I know, so of course it couldn’t be that. It has to be E10 fuel… You don’t think cars like E10? How do explain that car will actually run no problem on E85 as long as there is no rubber or plastic fuel lines. In fact they won’t run fine they will actually make more power, granted around 30 % more fuel is needed since ethanol isn’t as energy dense as petrol. The fact still remains ethanol has very good pre detonation resistance so more aggressive timing or higher boost can be used to achieve more power. Supermarket diesel? You do release all fuel in the UK comes from a couple of refineries…right? Supermarkets don’t get fuel from backstreet refineries. 🤦🏻 The main issues is contamination while on the underground storage tanks. Nothing to do with the fuel. Stop spreading unfounded Chinese whispers.

Relatives US spec 2016 petrol XC90 only lasted till 60k miles due to oil consumption, poor piston ring design and scored cylinders. Not fit for purpose.

I mean, it's a volvo after all. The days of a volvo just needed some tires and brakes is long gone. Since 2016 (the release of their new lineup) it's nothing but a mess for volvo cars. Many recalls, software issues, engine and gearbox issues, etc. So never buy a modern volvo. Yes, they have improved it since 2016, but still, it is a very complicated engine which still has some ford elements to it (I have been told so, don't know if this is true).

Bet I know what killed the last engine - They're fitted with an electric water pump that is very prone to problems. The pump is designed to only run when needed & thereby saving fuel, however the control for it's actuation can fail, as can the pump itself through mechanical failure. Pretty daft system for sure!
