Any chance you or someone will be doing a 70 mph range test on this vehicle? was really hoping to see that before I decide to buy one of these

fast forward 6 months, these sold out all across the portland, OR area. I got real lucky being able to snatch the very last one and had to pay full MSRP for it.

I would think that with a 75kWh battery, the EPA estimate is way off and people will actually get more than that. Any idea of charge speed/taper?
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney 3 жыл бұрын
You would think that, but if you look at the efficiency it probably won't. We're seeing barely more than 2 mi/kWh in test drives. That's just terrible.

90% of 208 miles is 187 miles. That's not enough for your average daily drive??? That's about what I drive in 2 weeks. And Car and Diver's Model 3 suffered a 7% battery degradation after 24,000 miles of mostly highway driving, and a charging with a Supercharger more than half the time. Unacceptable. If I did a lot of highway miles that used a lot high power charging, I'd go with an XC40 PHEV instead. And December European sales of the XC40 was 3,900 for the PHEV, and 3,200 for the BEV. Not too shabby. Europeans have good taste.

Very odd that the epa estimate is only 208 for this car when the model y gets 326 with similar size battery capacity. Even with some underestimating on volvos part and over on tesla's, a sizeable loss is still occuring somewhere.

2:45 - this is not unique to Tesla at all. The VW Group cars recommend the same thing to preserve the battery. e-tron and ID3 are 80%, Taycan is 85%, and the Teslas are 90%. I personally think this enthusiast approach is a good one.
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney 3 жыл бұрын
But there is a big difference - those vehicles all hold a MUCH higher percentage of the batter as a buffer, so if you do charge to 100% there won't be any problem. The Volvo allows access to 75 kWh ou of the total 78 kWh - nobody but Tesla allows such a high percentage to be accessed.

@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney Here's a page on usable battery: pushevs.com/2020/04/04/comparison-of-different-ev-batteries-in-2020/ Do you have better info because Tesla is similar to others with 4-6% buffer? From what I understand the bottom buffers are much larger than the top. For example, the 2019 e-tron 100% charge is actually 96%. They later reduced the buffer. I-Pace, for another example, has the same 6% total buffer as Tesla Model 3 but does not have any charge limit function.

I'm going to push back on charging to 100% without problem. The VW Group manuals all say that charging to 100% daily will cause battery damage.

How many people will need over 200 miles one way on a daily commute? Most people won’t need to charge past 90%.

I think the pricing is ridiculous, here in the UK, it's starts at £60k which is 82k USD.

SO, this video is making a HUGE deal of "only charge to 90%". Well, even with 150mile range... Isn't that what Kyle normally travels on his trips when he zooms from charger to charger (I've seem him do less than 100 at times). Don't think that is a big deal. MOST EVs recommend to charge to 70%-80% (think Rivian is one of them). so, yeah, rivian has larger battery and range, but... Don't think the range is a huge deal. Look at the sales of the etron worldwide which is a car when it came out Only had a range of 204 or somethign like that, and that has been increase d to 214 miles, and it also recommends not to fully charge on a daily basis, and that would be a smart thing to do on ANY EV. Besides, the average person in U.S. travels about 40 miles a day, so with 150 miles you only need to charge every 3 days and still have some 30 miles to spare? (on a cold winters set of days) Its a I find it kinda funny how people are like, "oh, I won't buy a car with less than 400-500 miles range" when they won't use it. Even when people take road trips, they typically stop every couple hours to go to restroom, get a drink, eatc, etc (Yes, I know some people will drive nonstop from LA to Vegas as slong as they don't have to stop for gas, but that's not the majority of people). Again, Look at how the etron is selling world wide, and how popular of a car it is. the latest version only ahs about 214 mile range I believe, and the old 2020 version only had 204 (which I believe was updated by increasing the battery parts thats being able to be used, and other things, but, still). Volvo, people pay for badges. I think its a good car, but for me the biggest problem is I'd need something more the size of a Rivian R1S that can carry at least 5 to 6 pax confy. This is a big compact. If I could have 2 cars (OI'd love VW to come out with the micro buzz already or some other EV van) the this could be a great "second" car, though, that is pricey, and the C40 Recharge hatch becomes a more attractive offering fo rme.

I really wanted to like this car, but just like you said, it’s just flat out TOO expensive. There is zero reason to get this car, unless you just like Volvo. With the Model Y starting at $50,000 with over 300 miles and the Mach E only costing $43,000, Volvo needs to seriously consider changing the price of this car. I almost see a Model Y everyday. I’ve seen several Mach E’s...... ask me how many Recharges I’ve seen since this car was released...

It’s a nice looking EV but a hard sell compared to a Model Y or even the VW ID.4
@sageDieuvids
@sageDieuvids 3 жыл бұрын
Just a shame about the range... 100% would've gone for this over the ID.4 or Mach E if it had 250-300 miles of range. Hopefully Volvo keeps it up and does a proper EV platform instead of trying to shove batteries into a traditional platform like this.

Oh my - say less - 208 miles?! So real world 180 miles or less???! Might as well buy a LEAF! Tax credits or no, they must have legalized weed at Volvo before any other state because they’re HIGH like their starting price. Thanks but no thanks

I test drove this last week and I fell in love however the weird thing that I found in this is that the front floorboard starts off flat and then dips down so depending on where you put your feet you’ll feel a flat surface or downhill, it’s just not one piece like most cars
