Volvo XC60 2024 review: Ultimate B5 Bright | Consider this SUV over BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC?

The 2024 Volvo XC60 is a well-established mid-size SUV in the premium segment. It goes tyre to tyre with the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5, among others. Needless to say, it needs to stand out from that competitive crowd if it is to succeed - so does it?
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the XC60's Ultimate B5 Bright variant to find out just how well it measures up against its competitors in the family-car stakes.
It's worth noting the XC60's line-up has changed quite dramatically in recent times, with regular internal-combustion engines axed in favour of mild-hybrid versions - including the B5 tested here - as Volvo charges ahead with its electrification plans. In fact, the Swedish brand is aiming to be all-electric in Australia by 2026 - yes, that's only two years away!

I have a 2024 XC60 Ultimate Dark and it is a true European luxury vehicle. I owned a 2018 Mercedes E-Class prior to the Volvo and they are on par with each other.

3.5 years of owning a T6 XC60 the only complaints I have are the infotainment unit not turning on for 3-5 minutes intermittently after starting. A real pain as the fan and aircon won’t work until it reboots. Also it consistently steers left all the time on straight roads and there is no adjustment on the suspension to counter it. Other than that a brilliant car and very happy with it.

It was my question as well. I have decided to buy the petrol XC 60 and very happy as it answer for all the needs and still focus on saftey and practical for every day driving. The NX is near by the VOLVO with better fule conseption and long run reliability and also it is a diffrent statment.

I like these, a sensible all rounder. Only two things I’m not keen on. Climate control from that digital panel and the need for a cord to use car play. What’s the point of a wireless charge pad if you still need a cord to use your apps?

They stopped offering the bright theme in the United States. You can only get the version with black mirrors and no chrome. I don't care for that look.I will keep my 2022 model.
