This is also a useful video for XC60 D3. I had the same trouble and it was hard to find the source of that noise. Gladly I have found it and it's an easy repair, 70€ instead of the 1000€ that dealers want, saying they have to change the whole EGR valve and gain some money with the distracted ones.

Thanks again so much for this Video. On my XC70 2013 with D5244T15 Motor it was definetely this small valve, where the membrane is broken. This makes the strange sound and also the EGR control flap clappering. This small valve is about 80 to 90 € in Germany. I now did order 2 of these after market membranes from Russia for 30 € each, wich hopefully will arrive in November, that I can repair it soon. Thanks to your video the replacement procedure is very easy. 👍

Just did mine on XC70 P3 D5244T17. Remove air box (screws PH and TX25, socket 7mm or flathead for MAF removal) Remove bottom part of air box - clean it afterwards There is just enough room for the valve removal with battery box untouched - just use TX25 and small socket driver. Bought replacement on Ali, was very cheap, but I used only the membrane. Dont believe in longevity of the plastic body. My membrane was completely torn apart, so I am glad I replaced it. After the change the brake pedal feels bit stiffer, probably due to the vacuum regulator now working. There is less vacuum, but it will last longer. I did not have such big problem with the noise, but it could be heard sometimes.

It worked in my xc60 d5 as well. The rubber was broken and changed with the new one and noise disappeared. Many thanks.

Trank you for this Video from Germany. I have the Same Noise since about 2 weeks ago. Sounds like a Fish-trawler. I knew it has something to do with the vacuum pump System and tried to locate the failure by pressing vacuum-hoses with My fingers. Found out it disappears, when pressing the hose Connected to the plastic control valve that actuates the EGR-flap. It also dissappears when the magnetic valve between vacuum-pump and Control-valve is actuated from time to time. That is the reason why sometimes the noise is there and sometimes not. Until now I suspected the membrane of this valve to be broken. But now your Video gave me another helpfull hint what the failure may be.

Good job, but I have done the same work twice, because after installation the issue came back, second time I've added inside the vacuum pump small plastic washer that was fixed vacuum valve in assembled position all the time. Only adding plastic washer tickness about 3 mm have solved a problem. Actually, original rubber membrane was in perfect shape and I didn't replace, when cheap aftermarket membrane was ordered as well 😁
@juho.piironen4 ай бұрын
Hi, did you add the plastic washer under or over the membrane?
@f1ification4 ай бұрын
@juho.piironen Hi, I added a plastic washer inside the vacuum pump. So, before installation of the valve, input plastic washer with similar diametr, 3-4 mm height. Then install valve. In this case, the valve will be fixed by this plastic washer.

Hi, Can you talk to your Russian Friend to make a useful modification for DPF regeneration on 2.4 D5/D4 P3 engines? I installed by myself the LED with the resistor to the glow plug to know when the DPF is regenerated. The light from the LED informs me about the working glow plugs. During the regeneration of DPF, the glow plugs are running, LED are lighting and this way I know not to turn off the engine so that the regeneration comes to the end. I installed the red LED by the dashboard on A pillar. Also you can take a power from the wire of the glow plug module. I think it would be a useful thing for D5 users and on your channel this information will reach more users. led 3.6V and 480ohm or 1.6V 980ohm. Fuse 1A. I have been using my idea for 2 months so far and it is doing great job. No any foults or errors after instalation LED.

Wow, nice that is definetely useful. Do you know or can you test if regeneration doesnt take place at a certain fuel level? I think i read somewhere that it does not regenerate below 1/4 fuel level, but couldnt find information about this in vida.

@@szittyakurt No matter what the fuel level is. Regeneration takes place anyway. You only need 1/4 tank when you do computer regeneration. Tested on my d5. You can know when your vehicle is in regeneration mode without that indicators, just watch consumption when vehicle is stationary. In P or N consumption increase about 1.5-1.8l per hour... When the consumption back to 0.5-0.8 regeneration is over.

Does this also cause more oil usage because I have to add 1 liter of motoroil every 2 weeks that's not normal
@vffa2 жыл бұрын
If the Crankcase Ventilation system can not release the pressure from the crankcase, you are likely to consume more oil through 1) The ventilation itself, leading to the intake hose 2) The piston rings 3)The turbocharger as, the turbo cannot make to oil from the return pipe go back into the engine if there is back pressure (this can also damage the turbo quite quickly, resulting in a little whistle or rattling noise like letting rice fall on a thin metal plate, but muffled) 4) overpressure in the crankcase makes oil leak from every hole and also "not-hole". Overpressure in the crankcase, caused by a faulty vacuum line is quite the problem and may reduce the engine life.

Thicker oil is not solution for your problem. If it is not leaking outside (you would see), it is being burnt by engine. Most probably piston rings or scratched cylinder wall. If it is the piston rings, I would try engine cleaner (I use BG EPR). If it does not help, the only next step I see a visit to repair shop to investigate deeper, probably more expensive solution.
