The little metal piece on the side prevents the metal key from rattling against the plastic once inserted. Volvo attention to details... :-)

Very helpful video. Saves me the trouble of having to ask a Volvo dealer to do it for me (no doubt at an extortionate cost) Thanks

Saved me a lot of time and trouble. Thanks very much for taking the time out to make the video. And especially for identifying the little metal piece on the side (which flew out when I opened mine, and I couldn't work out where it came from!)

this was super helpful. the instructions in the owners manual didn't have enough detail to show you how to remove the cover. thanks so much.

Great job. Used your video to help change the battery for our 2008 V70 key fob. The only issue is the contacts with the battery. There are two contact parts that depend on spring tension. You might have to bend them up to get good contact with the battery when you reassemble the fob. Many thanks!

that little piece of metal @ the 2 min. mark (spring) is for actual key if you don't have it in it your key will rattle in the holder. thanks for the video just replaced my battery and now I can open the windows from a further distance by having the open button pushed in visa versa to close the windows ;-)

Awesome tip. I have struggled with that thing for a while wondering what it was for. My key was wobbling inside the hole. I just adjusted the metallic tab and the key is now snug. It's the small tips that help. Thanks a bunch

Thank you for sharing where that little clip on the side goes back into! It popped out while changing the battery and I could not figure out where it should go back in.

This clip made it easy for me to change the batteries in both of my 2008 S80 PCCs. Mine have two batteries each. One PCC had the little metal piece and one did not. I assume the missing one was lost when the batteries were replaced in the past. Thanks for the video.

Thank you. I did not have a little silver piece on the edge. There was some silver wire contraption next to the battery casing. I have a 2011 S60 T6. Instructions were very concise.

The little spring seems to me an extra restraint for the metal key. Nice clip! I used it to replace the rubber buttons. Thanks!

Thank you for this video,I have the 2009 PCC version for a S80.It is basically the same housing with 6 buttons.It takes two batteries and the metal piece on mine was not there.The Volvo manual does not really show you the best place to open the remote (as you show here ),so this was very helpful.

Thank you for this video. I tried to use tweezers, but I didn't handle that :D Instead I used a small (very small) screwdriver (2.0mm wide and nearly as thin as your tweezers) from my 6pcs precision screwdriver set. For me that screwdriver was easier way. Of course that tiny metal tab falled down to the floor, but I found it. I had to watch the video again to find out what I had to search from the floor.

I REALLY should have watched this before I attempted to change my battery wherein I accidentally dropped kicked my key, had it open unceremoniously, had the spring thing fall out from a place I didn't understand and realized too late that my pa bought the wrong battery size, so had no choice but to shove everything back inside and decided to use the spare key instead. Your way seems much better though. Bravo
@cryoshock11746 жыл бұрын
I actually found a simpler way to open the key fob - I pulled out the metal key part almost all the way and then bent it a bit to push the lid open from the inside. No tools required!

It has been a while since you posted this. But I think I know what the little spring on the side of the key fob case is for. It keeps the case together. When the dealership replaced my battery the case would not snap shut and keep shut. I had to tape it together. When I went to replace the batteries today I found that spring was missing.

Very helpful video. Now I’ve a question my battery seams to intermittently get stuck in the socket on the dashboard is there a solution for this? Dose not happen every time. When stuck wiggling it releases it but then the car won’t alarm? It’s a second hand car but I love driving it! Any tips would be appreciated thank you

One of my 09 s80 key fobs battery died and when I replaced it with 2 different kinds (because I thought one might be dead) the remote wouldn't work anymore. I made sure the battery polarity was correct. Do you know what the problem could be?
@felipousismix8 жыл бұрын
Hi: open it again and spray it with Contact Cleaner, it won't damage any circuit, then put the new battery checking again the polarity and it should work right away. Note: you need to do this on the original keys.

Style...
@FrankAHuser4 жыл бұрын
volvosweden it may very well be your style, which is fine, but it also prevents that your fingers might leave some ‘grease’ on the battery, that may effect the function of the battery.

Also, if you want to be certain your not static loaded. Just touch a radiator, that way you unload the static from your body. Than it's safe to touch electronics.

This is def not the best way to do it, just put a small screwdriver into the key hole, than push it against the back. Doing it like this won't scratch the plastic, and doesn't have risks of braking that clip.
