von Mises Ellipse

This is a response to a comment on the Mohr's Circle in Excel. I was asked if we could draw a von Mises ellipse. It's trickier than it might seem - but yes, yes we can! We need to:
1) Draw the right ellipse in horizontal/vertical axes, then
2) Rotate this ellipse 45 degrees to get to the right place
I talk about some of the math and solid mechanics background that lets us do this and then dive into the Excel.

I don't get it, how can we say it's an ellipse in the first place? It's xy in (x/a)² +( xy/ab) + (y/b)² = c² that I can't understand.. shouldn't it be just (x/a)² + (y/b)² = c² to be an ellipse?
