This guy is the future people!!! Same to Me!! Von Smith is the Future in musical expectations. I've folled him since 06 and I can soundly say, tht not one male singer has the range, power, or control over his voice as von does. Not even Nick Petreas whom I luv dearly has a voice like Von. He's got Soul, Class, and Originality. Thts hard to top!!!

I love Von's voice so much and have follwed him on here for about 3 years. I'm so annoyed that people keep saying how they don't like him and he's over the top and shouting and screaming and etc...... I kind of like Adam Lambert so I checked him out and in his Hollywood Round audition in the group round he was screaming and shouting and wearing eyeliner and etc... but I liked it! How come its ok for him but not Von to be "over the top?"

I know if he is using his falsetto or not in this song... he uses falsetto only in these parts - the "be my mother" on 1:24, 2:47, and 4:01; The "alone" on 3:38 and "woh-oh-oh-oh!" on 4:05 are clearly powerful head-tones. The rest of the high notes are either head-tones or chest-voice! He really has a wide range of vocals, and very good executions of different techniques on singing..

I think Von Smith is better, and I agree with the poster who said he needs to get out from under the influence of his family and get rounded out some more. He does have the voice of an angel--with some rough edges, but hopefully he can smooth those out, grow up a bit and come into his own. I am looking forward to buying his albums!

You have the chance of your life on AI, in order to win you have to show your emotional side, or reflect situations of your life that will make people relate to you. Don´t show only your goofy and cocky side. You have an exceptional voice and they know it. Choose the songs that you like not the commercial ones (Over the Rainbow??). I've read from a comment it has something to do with his mother. Von needs to stand on his own to grow as an artist not be hindered by his mother. I like the fun side of Von while he was in mexico performing with a band. He ran from home during that time. I'm not certain about this theory but I think it's a possibility!

Von needs to sing very popular songs and make it his version. I hope he'll use his falsetto not his full voice and limit unnecessary facial expressions. I have lots of faith for Von! He has lots of potential!

At moments in this song he sounds like George Michael...not sure if that's a good thing. :) But either way, I've seen him live at a local benefit in LA and he brought the pros to their knees and everyone in the audience to their feet. With his voice he could easily be in the top 5 of Idol if he focuses more on songs like this or soulful without being too cabaret. He just needs to remember his power and not overuse or abuse it or it will become cliche.

The thing is, he's a wonderful singer, but a bad stage performer. Maybe it was the pressure, but he choked on idol. He's got the best voice ever, but he needs to find the confidence and presence in front of a camera to relay this message to America. He wouldn't have one the show, and now he has time to perfect his craft and approach his dream at a different angle in pursuit of the same goal. He will be fine. Stop trippin people!

i didn't know he was a youtube guy until i read the wikipedia entry. fact is though, he didn't sing that confidently and specially on AI. his voice might be good, but his performances weren't that good. and he seems to have no personality when he's on the show. why did none of this come through? that said, it's true that there were a lot of talented better people that didn't get on and some not so talented people who did. I'm watching for anoop.

I don't think adam will last long in the competition. He is pumped up too early in the competition and to be honest he is not that great of a contemporary singer. He is too theatrical. IMO!
