My buds and I stayed at the same hotel as the Dead and crew, and had not a clue. The Omni is a 4 story hotel, and they had the whole 4th floor, which was locked out in the elevator. We were on the 3rd floor, and I can attest, they were quieter than we. These two shows were quite stellar. My only Here Comes Sunshine and Lucy in the Sky. This was a GREAT night, and I saw every North Carolina show from Duke '78 until the end 3 shows in Charlotte '95. Lastly, I will say, the Boys loved playing in N.C.. Lots of really good shows. Be Kind.

This was my third Dead show - after catching 2 shows in the summer of 92. But this happened to be right down the street. As a junior in HS and totally immersed in the band and on a mission to see them as much as possible, they just show up at my backdoor and put on 2 EXCELLENT shows. And to see my small college town briefly become the epicenter of the Grateful Dead universe was surreal and beautiful. Don't think I slept the whole 2 days.

I've listened to this show since '96, my first post-Brent era tape. to be able to SEE it is so special. Thank god people broke rules and snuck in cameras. 27 years later this concert is still amazing. Camera locked on Jerry during Stagger Lee is priceless & a piece of true history. To those who were there & aware, I envy you. "I was born too late, blame it on a simple twist of fate..."
@chrismcgrath96963 ай бұрын
thought the exact same thing about Stagger Lee. the finger roll at @10:52 is so good, a little flourish in the midst of the chord progression. Amazing flash of his spontaneity. and his smile off to the side after .... gold

all that happened right as our group was being taken to our front row A 1-4, mail order seats. I had A 3, right in front of Jerry. I sported a cane and had refinished it with a gold leaf handle and tip(and was raising it up into the air). I never connected until today that the second song, Stagger Lee, references the cane swinging character by that name. I'm sure I realized that before, ages ago..

It's so hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Jerry has been gone for 24 almost 25 years now. If it weren't for Jerry my life would be completely different. I'd probably be living in Atlanta instead of DC area. And I'm sure my daughter would have a different mother as well. Idk, after Jerry was gone I no longer felt the pull to do entire tours. Although I still traveled a bit to see some shows the thrill was kind of gone for me. Don't get me wrong, I dearly love Bobby & Phil. My first few shows were right before we lost Brent Mydland. So I always felt like something was missing. But Jerry kept me wanting more anyway. My daughter was a baby & her first & only Dead show with Jerry present was RFK '95. And that was the last time I ever saw Jerry.

Once you have made it a bit down the set list you will come to Black Throated Wind.....WOW.....WOW.....WOW!!!! Getting back to The Chapel Hill run I must agree that the parking lot scene was far from perfect. The shows far over shadowed whatever was going on outside (which I could of cared less at the time being that I was watching the boys tear it up. The Grateful Dead had a great little run in Chapel Hill. The shows were well worth it and jeeeze I think Jerry was wearing Air Jordan's. Way cool!!!

boston 94. for sure. but there were moment after that in 95 that were the best like the best foolish went off 95. there I another from 88-90 that is equally valuable but not in the same way. its technically perfect. this 6-27-95 foolish is where it was meant to get to. but shows? no you got to get to Boston 10-01 94 at least. this jack straw is the very best jack straw but for one in the 70's in my opinion. I think it rips really like its exactly supposed to. Garcia liked it obviously. this stagger has a brilliant tag at the end of it-- he played the notes in the little run different than we used to. its kinda a big deal to get a Roses and theres a dew. The reason Vince got a lot of shit is cuz he wasn't Brent. The Dead, in my personal opinion, had a much different(better) sound when Brent was still around. I'm not gonna even comment on Pigpen or Keith cuz when I started seeing Dead shows Brent was the keyboardist. He even had his own songs. I definitely missed his presence at every show. 6 months later- I recently listened to some of the shows I attended with Vince playing keyboard, and I was VERY IMPRESSED!!! Vince actually did a really awesome job. There were a couple of shows where he really stood out too. The 92 Omni shows specifically.
