High powered naked bikes are not comfortable over distance above 70 mph or less depending on the wind direction and intensity. Then finding a windscreen that doesn't induce buffeting can be a frustrating challenge. Thanks for the good review.

Check out KZbinr “karmakaze moto” vlogs, dude moto camp from Seattle to Anchorage Alaska, then on to the Denali Road all the way up to Arctic Circle/Prudhoe Bay, the little Himi hung right in there with the other pricy BMW 1200 GS motorcycles. I’d say not bad for a budget adventure bike. 🍻

Having a strong front brake on tarmac is a safety feature, especially when ABS is available. Having the ability to de-tune that same front brake when on slippery dirt is why some riders ( me included in the past) spend big bucks on fancy ADV bikes with electronic modes etc. Having said that, I fitted a 320 mm disc to my mini -ADV bike ( DRZ400E) mainly because it needed it when fully ladened to slow down. Without the load it is powerful enough to warrant an experienced rider on dirt. With the design brief in mind for the Himalayan, a less than potent front brake makes sense.

Some vloggers have had luck with clip-on extensions at the top of the windscreen that lessen the buffeting. The effect is to put a layer of slower moving air between the ridfer and the high-speed air coming off the top of the windscreen - the slower moving intermediary air acting as a sort of "lubricant" between the two other layers, resulting in less turbulence. Puig makes one - search "Puig clip-on deflector". Givi also makes a "windscreen deflector".

I seldom comment on youtube videos... I had to on this one. You sir have done the most honest to goodness review of this motorcycle, especially the way you explained the brake setup. Now I am not a fan of the Himalayan at 6 ft 190 pounds I found the seat uncomfortable and the rider triangle did not suit my style. I never liked this motorcycle but even I have to say your review does total justice and offers the truest point of view for all of the himalayans intended use. Cheers and keep them videos comming... Great 👍🏽 Review Uncle V! So you reckon the switchable ABS are new versions are not a big deal? If you could elaborate....and tyres are they radials?
@UncleVoodoo
@UncleVoodoo 3 жыл бұрын
the switchable abs only shuts off rear wheel abs and since most of your stopping power is up front and having it off only comes into play if you're riding really hard. it also rearms itself every time you switch off the ignition and with the filming I do... I am on and off the bike a lot setting up and retrieving cameras. early on I would catch myself switching it off and running a trail section, then shutting the bike off to set up cameras and running the section again on camera... and realizing later, after the re-run, that I forgot to switch abs off again when I started the bike back up and performance didn't suffer- having abs on or off just wasn't coming into play. thats not to say its useless or anything but the only time I really need to switch it of is when im playing around skidding the rear wheel, so I just leave it switched on most of the time now. you can actually see in my videos if its on or off in the pov footage- if there is a flashing yellow light on the dash=abs is off, no flashing light =abs on. I do believe the stock Pirelli MT60 tires are radials.

Any thoughts on a Himalayan for slower and bit more technical stuff? Something like rocky 10-15mph desert trails? I have a CT125, but can’t stop wondering if I wouldn’t enjoy the RE.
@UncleVoodoo
@UncleVoodoo 3 жыл бұрын
the Himalayan would probably be fine there but so would the ct125. im planning a rocky trip myself and mentioned to my friends that I might take the Monkey instead of the Himalayan and was told that would be cheating - small size and light weight has its advantages. the Himalayan would make the ride to and from the trail better though.

So you have a 2021 model, but in India and other parts of the world, the 2021 has a new upgraded, more comfortable saddle, an improved rear brake, a re-designed front crash bar (where your gas can is mounted). It's slanted forward so you don't hit your knees on it in a hard stop. a larger windshield, Tripper navigation (like on the Meteor), four-way hazard flasher, and a rear rack that's almost level with the seat. Dealers and other hard core Himalayan forum riders say that the US is always one year behind the upgrades in the far east. You mentioned you have the 4-way flasher I think. I can see you didn't get the tripper navigation, the new crash bars or larger windshield, but can you tell me what else the USA 2021 model is missing from the list I gave you on the over-seas 2021 models? I was going to wait until this fall when we get the 2022 to get the better seat, lower rear rack (with solid plate on it) and larger windshield but I'd like to know how many of the upgrades we actually got for the 2021 model! Thanks.
@UncleVoodoo
@UncleVoodoo 3 жыл бұрын
the usa 2021 model is the India 2020 model with the 2019 exhaust. I actually like the model I got better than the India 2021 model.
@spydie
@spydie 3 жыл бұрын
@@UncleVoodoo I was wondering about that exhaust. What changed or is going to change in the US? Is it the catalytic converter? Who do you like about the US 2021 over the India 2021? I wish I knew what the upgrades were for the US for 2021 over the 2019 and what you are still lacking from the India 2021? could you be more specific?
@UncleVoodoo
@UncleVoodoo 3 жыл бұрын
@@spydie all the upgrades were pretty minor from bs4 to bs6- new paint colors, switchable abs and a different color dash were the biggest changes. the USA model didn't get the new cat exhaust of the India model (not sure about Europe). the new India 2021 I think is referred to as the bs6+ since the bs (bahrat stage) number just designates the emission standard the bike complies to as opposed to an actual model. the USA models don't conform to those standards, in Europe they are the euro 3, 4 and 6. the difference between the USA 2021 and India 2021 are new colors, different shaped front racks and the tacked on nav pod & windscreen to accommodate it (none of which I want).
@spydie
@spydie 3 жыл бұрын
@@UncleVoodoo Thanks. Also the new upgrades contains a new, more comfortable seat, which a lot of people have complained about and opted for the touring seat. However, the new seat uses denser foam so it's harder. My new CT125 has the high density (hard) seat and everyone hates it. It hurts my skinny butt, so I wouldn't want the new harder "himmy" seat. Nor the Nav (I always know where I am), and it sounds like the new windscreen is not taller, just wider for the Tripper nav. The new front racks would be nice if I found my knees hit on them, but I'm only 5'10" with 32" inseam so maybe no problem there. The new lower rear rack with a metal pad on it set up for a trunk would be nice. Do you have a Cat on yours? If that's going to be on the 2022 I'd better not wait to get one. I don't like Cats. (prefer dogs! LOL). India is supposed to release a 650 twin model of the Himalayan in Q1 this year. Maybe by 2022 or 2023 we'll get them here? I'd love to have the Himmy in 650 but would prefer thumper. The engine will be from the Meteor but tuned more for stump pulling (but I'll bet it won't have low rpm stump pulling power.). The power will be about double the hp of the 411cc engine.

That reserve fuel thing is so strange on many bikes, I had a bike once with 1.5 gallon reserve that you could only use half of that. There was just dead space in the tank that it could not draw fuel from ?
@surferdude642
@surferdude642 3 жыл бұрын
Most bikes are that way, they don't want you to run out of gas. The fuel pump is usually mounted in the tank, so that takes up some space. Running very low frequently, can overheat the fuel pump, since it relies on the gas for cooling.
