I've always really respected that you frog a project when you don't enjoy it, but I can see how it might be different when you're working on something for your husband. Sometimes if I lose steam on a project I tell myself that after I knit a couple rows I will reward myself by working on a project I am more excited about. It slows down the process but still gets you to the finish line! 😉

For projects I don't enjoy knitting but really want the end product, I make sure I have another project on the needles that I really enjoy working on then I set a goal for each day for dreaded project. So I'll say "you have to knit an inch (or knit for half an hour or whatever the goal is) a day before you get to work on the fun project." That way I'm making progress on the dreaded project but not spending hours a day doing something I don't want to. Just an idea, hope that helps.
@Voolenvine6 жыл бұрын
That's a really good idea! I might just employ that for the "Husbeast" sweater 😂 Thanks Anissa!

Hi Kristin! I haven't watched ANY knitting podcasts in ages, cooped up in my writing/research cave, so it's so nice to watch you again! The Joji sweater looks great, I love the colors you've picked (and dyed!). I like Justyna's hat too, I didn't know it was a free pattern! I'm not knitting too much these days, but right now I'm thinking about knitting socks for my son, it should be a nice little project :) A knitting tarot deck and I've never heard about it! Need to check it out! :D Much love crawling back to my cave< ;D

LOVE the wig! That plus the hat and you look adorable :) As for the wool for Dennis's sweater-- have you thought about soaking the wool and then letting it dry before you knit with it? It might help the wool bloom a little more and make it more enjoyable.
@Voolenvine6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ashleigh! ❤️ I did think about soaking it. But I think it really comes down to the needle size I'm using. The yarn was meant to be knit at a larger gauge.

@belindaf88216 жыл бұрын
I'm sure someone else has said this, but what if you washed the skeins to try and get some of the grease out? Another thing that can help is warming it up to let the grease melt a bit. I haven't seen that wool in person though, so I'm not sure if either of those suggestions would work. It sucks when something you want to make for someone you love is a pain in the arse to knit!

I didn't do anything for hand out candy for the kids on Halloween this year. I didn't even buy a pumpkin or a mum to place out front. And it was fine.

About Dennis's sweater do you think your needle size is to small for the yarn? I'm having same problem with 3 cowels because its worsted weight on size 5.
@Voolenvine6 жыл бұрын
The texture of the yarn on smaller needles is not a happy combination. It's definitely more suited for larger needles.

LOL, I may have been the one who commented on the hubster sweater. I am knitting the Denali out of Peace Fleece sport.DK in a medium gray (Father's Gray). I knit almost up to the armhole in the spring during a ten day vacation during which I had many hours in the car to knit. Since then I have not knit a stitch. I love the pattern, but something about a man's sweater is just so . . . well, I don't articulate it, but you understand. My advice is to find a time when you have some car or TV time and pick it up and keep slogging away. I love my spouse and I know he will love his completed sweater. And let's be realistic here, I am doing five cables across the garment and yours is ahem, easier, so please be a good role model and get yours finished so I can get motivated. Maybe we can be Peace Fleece husband sweater motivational buddies. Will post a picture once I get some good light.
@Voolenvine6 жыл бұрын
Hah! After you mentioned it, I couldn't get "Carving a sweater" out of my head while knitting on it! 5 cables??? I salute you. Your husband will cherish that sweater for ages! Unfortunately, I am not the role model you seek 🤣 Over the weekend I decided to call it quits with this yarn. It's just physically unpleasant to work with, and not worth the effort. 😞 BUT I will be casting on Rift with some different yarn. The husband shall have a sweater!
@christineking55506 жыл бұрын
It's ok to rip out Dennis' sweater. Rip it out, see what you can destash or maybe try a project with a looser gauge. Choose a yarn you know you will enjoy working with. It's not worth it to continue if it's really not enjoyable. When you work with a yarn you like to work with, it will zoom.

If that were me knitting a sweater for my significant other, I'd want to enjoy it. It sounds like its the dense gauge that's bothering you not so much the yarn. My hands kill me if my gauge is too dense. I'd rip it out and find a pattern with a looser gauge if I were you.

Will you be going to Vogue Knitting Live next January? I looked for you at the podcaster meet up at Rhinebeck but never saw you there. I wanted to give you a shawl that I made based on House Ravenclaw from Harry Potter. It is teal and gold and looks like a banner without the bird on it.
