Pre-chimney, the hearth was in the center. Even colonial and pioneer homes the fireplace and chimney were placed in the center, the original central heating. Kristin you might want to look into assembly line quilting, do all your cutting before moving onto your sewing. With the log cabin for example- you know how many blocks you will have, start with the red center and it's friend, chain sew all of those. Snip them apart or not, press the seams open and then sew on the next strip, repeat the snip apart and press seam open. All the blocks will be completed at the same time. The Double Wedding Ring Quilt class I took met once a week for 5 weeks, doing the assembly line method we all had a finished quilt top at the end.

Thanks for the great info, Julie! I remember learning about hearths being placed in the center of a home, watching a home renovation show on HGTV 😄It's all so fascinating! And yes!! Assembly line quilting seems like the way to go ... I think I just wanted skip the cutting part and get straight to the sewing with this project 😋 Next time, for sure!

Love your Ranunculus Kristen, i am also an aquarian and a lifelong knitter, garment maker and quilter. I remember when i started patchwork, i went to a sewing group and the teacher started out by saying " You go out and buy beautiful fabric, you cut it into tiny pieces and then sew it back together again". But what joy, i have just completed a quilt using Tilda fabrics by a Scandinavian designer whicn are so beautiful. Happy making and look forward to seeing you next time x

I love your ranunculus. So unique in the charcoal and oil slick style mohair. I am about to start one in lavender/cream with soft lavender mohair. You know, I am amazed at how fast you've settled into your new home! I'm still working on mine 25 years later. LOL

I was so glad to see the red square in the center of your log cabin quilt squares. It stands for the heart of the home hence the red. I had made a log cabin quilt for my mom and when she passed in 2020 the quilt came back to hug me. I don't see it as nautical with your lovely color choices. There are so many ways to put those squares together to make hundreds of patterns. Try it on your design wall or layout. Your Ranunculus is absolutely gorgeous and I love the color. Now I'm the only one that hasn't made one I guess. 🌷

In the 1800s, if a log cabin quilt was made with one black square in the middle instead of red, the owner of the home would hang it on the clothes line as a signal... it marked a member of the Underground Railroad where escaped slaves could find a safe house.

You pronounced Midori Hirose quite well! But I wanted to note that the ITO Sensai has an a and so is not pronounced like sensei - more like sen-sah-ee if that makes sense? Anyway, love the way your Ranunculus fits!

I absolutely loved killing Eve, I haven't watched the final season yet I am going to get AMC to finish it but Im still watching outlander at the moment!! I am just learning how to sew and I am enjoying the process. Your quilts are awesome, it has been on my radar lately to try quilting! I have just recently started cutting out 3x3 squares and trying to stitch them together, oddly enough 🤪 it is difficult to cut straight let alone sew straight enough for all of the corners to match up! I have a ways to go but I look forward to it. I am missing your hand dyed yarn and all of the projects your making with them. ❤️ More soon I hope!
@Voolenvine2 жыл бұрын
Yay! Congrats on learning to sew. When it comes to sewing straight lines, you'll get it! practice, practice, practice! When quilting, seam allowances are usually 1/4". So, keep your eye on the edge of your presser foot and ensure the fabric doesn't extend beyond it when sewing. I also like to use washi tape to mark wider seam allowances ... I hope that helps/makes sense. I ought to do a tutorial on this 😋 And yes!! I'm just waiting for the right project to come into my life. I have a couple of my colorways that I'm itching to knit with.
@Aligardens2 жыл бұрын
@@Voolenvine Thank you! Washi tape, I will look into this ASAP!! I have a foot on the sewing machine that is clear plastic in the center so it is really easy to see what I am doing(I am a lefty so I might hold my fabric on the opposite side of the machine). My grandmother is 87 and she is unable to see out of one eye, so she gifted me her janomi sewing machine, serger (haven't looked at it yet), and and Embroidery machine (haven't looked at that either). I am excited, overwhelmed, and determined to honor her by learning all of it

And I wish I could speak english fluently one day, but unfortunately my brain decided to like numbers more than words. 😁 The colourway should be „Schlammpackung“ which literally is mud package. But maybe one can translate it to mud or clay mask. PS: Your Ranunculus is gorgeous. 🖤
