I have to admit that just learning about modding this was pretty annoying, but I actually like being able to create the rules for when the programs interact, but there aren't enough options to tell the mods how to behave in the load order, you should be able to designate which you want first and what group you want last so when you load in a new program it just plunks it in with regards to the rules you've established. That and that if you uninstall something it completely clears all the pre-existing rules around it, which you have to do just to get the masters check to run from time to time. I wish there were just a button to run the masters/conflicts detection.
@fresh218
@fresh218 2 жыл бұрын
It's better to create rules so LOOT API knows where to put your .esp and .esl files, if we were able to just drag and drop and sort with LOOT after it would just revert the manually dragged files.
@Manchineel3993
@Manchineel3993 2 жыл бұрын
@@fresh218 people who understand what they are downloading and were manually arranging load order were most likely either not using LOOT at all, or it was used as a first pass to be refined. Using LOOT after arranging load order just means that the person in question does not understand what they are doing.

Honestly i cant fucking stand vortex. King ofSauce, yeah it’s so fucking annoying. I tried to import all my mods from nmm but only got the plugins not the ability to see the mods. Also, I had to manually click import for all the mods I was importing and had to manually enable the plugins with the frustration of some of them occasionally disabling by themselves for no reason. Even worse, if I want to download or update a mod I need vortex as nmm no longer lets me log in.

@Charlakin
@Charlakin 5 жыл бұрын
@David Haynes yeah, my initial solution when nmm does that was find an updated version or download mods manually and move it via nmm. Since there was none to be found and only Vortex I decided to get over with it and get the latest version so I won't have to deal with anymore issue. Then, I discovered that Vortex is still being worked on and so much more inconvenient. Hopefully I'll figure out a way to fix vortex or see if moving back to nmm works, worse things worse I'll have to wait until they update the program.

Well that is true of every mod manager ever. Its different. It forces a different way of thinking. Its not more complicated, but it is new if you are accustomed to the old way of thinking. the whole load order system was built based on an assumption: the users do not know what the correct order is. and that is true in most cases, as the majority of mod users are NOT power users, but merely end-users who just want to plug-and-play the game. running into some load order bugs, post the load order to some mod sites and wait for days until some senpai to come and save the game is probably the last thing they want. this is where dependency kicks in, to ensure all the mods have their masters loaded first before themselves, this will guarantee all installed and enabled mods are indeed loaded in-game.

So here I am, 2019. And I'm asking myself, why can't I just select multiple plugins drag them and put them where I want, like it used to be? Isn't that WAY more simpler for the end user? instead we gotta go with all this hassle of groups and what not. That whole diagram thing blows my brains off. What the actual .... If it ain't broken don't fix it. As a programmer, the saying is actually true: A user interface is like a joke, if you gotta explain it, then it's not very good.

Yeah. I'm just trying it out and I stumbled on that LOOT Group diagram whilst trying to click and drag. What on earth. Why? Who decided that was a good idea? Groups look neat, I understand the effort to make it simpler, but how on earth is that monstrosity of a diagram easier to use? Please just let me click and drag. All I want is to move my patches below my original files, which should be done automatically but isn't for some reason... I'm all for change, but pointless and confusing change that leads to nothing but headaches isn't ideal.

I think this system is useful in the cases where you have 100+ mods and you are constantly adding and removing ones, it would be very easy to fuck it up without these rules automatically adjusting it. For smaller modlists though I agree, it's a little much.

I went from NMM to Vortex. I've been really happy with Vortex, but yeah, early on, it was kind of rough. I've been using it about as soon as it was available and now it's on 0.16.1.TESTING. It's much more stable than it used to be and I'm still very hopeful that it will soon become a standard. I think(assume?) it's going to be Nexus's replacement of Nexus Mods Manager (NMM). Once you understand mods enough you realize the mods managers pretty much do the same thing. Vortex is as non-"techy" as you can get with a product as "techy" as a mods manager...but it's still very intuitive (IMHO). I was at the point where I was considering trying out Mod Organizer when Vortex popped out so I tired it instead. Glad I did. I love it. But everyone's entitled to their own opinions. As long as mods from Nexusmods are supported. :)

I was going to use Vortex for my new F4, but NMM is just simpler. Load order is just a matter moving plugins up and down, then you check them with FO4Edit.

MO is good too. But if your not going to swap script heavy mods in and out NMM works just fine. And the interface is so simple.

I'm having a problem where there is no option to choose "late loader". I'm new to modding but I feel like it shouldn't be too hard but I just can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?

Great content. Thought I was getting quite good at this but you made it much clearer. Thankyou. I like Vortex for the most part. I think it is pretty good but there is too much reliance on a rules based approach and when that is wrong, it can be extremely annoying. A simple up and down arrow such as existed in NMM to overide the order would be nice. Manually addressing issues that autosort doesnt cope with seems more complicated than it needs to be. Also love that it gives loot alerts about patches I missed. I do worry that it will put new modders off but for a little effort it does a lot for you. I definately think that Vortex is a big step forward, it just doesnt come easily but it does reward the effort.

I know you'll probably never see this comment but if you do, Thank you soooooo much! I've wanted to mod Skyrim for years but never had a good computer for it I just recently got one for my birthday and was really bummed when I realized how complicated and hard installing mods were. (at least for me, it might of been a breeze for others) This series of videos has really made my 2019 happy so far, I finally get to bask in the glory that is Skyrim. Thank you

I believe this was addressed in a previous video (and you may have found it already in the last two weeks...), but when you install a mod, you not just have to click the install button, but once that's done be sure that on the mods page you also enable/activate the mod (click on the drop down arrow for any grey box next to an installed mod and select 'enable') That'll make the esp show up in the load order/plugin list. The other way is to just simply click on the blue box dropdown and select 'enable'- that'll install and activate your mod with only two clicks Blue: downloaded but not installed Grey: installed but not activated Green: installed and activated, mod ready for plugin sorting and gameplay.

I think I stay with nmm. Vortex is maybe better in many areas, but it misses fundamental functions. I can´t choose which specific files I want to overwrite. For example when I use different texture replacers. I want the ground and tree textures from mod a and the rock textures from mod b for example. And another specific thing for non englisch speakers like me. When I want to install a translated esp/esm file of mod from a seperat archive and want to replace the original esp/esm with it, it doesn´t override the original file correctly. I can repack them of course, but it´s unneccessary in nmm, why should I do it in it´s replacement? And I think the category structure of nmm is better. If I missed this functions somehow please tell me and I give it another try. Maybe after the 5th Beginners guide.

You can pick and choose which files to use if you are using different mods. When they show up with conflics your can tell them where to load, A after B. But you can also right click on the mod in question and select manage file conflicts. So if you do this on mod B but still want to use some textures from mod A you can select those specific files to be loaded. As for translation esps I don't have an answer. Perhaps someone else can help you with that.

@@seasearch Sure, that is great for people who understand every file and exactly which textures are tied to what ingame and exactly which specific files are going to conflict with specific files from other mods. Vortex is useless to anyone doesn't make mods.

I tried vortex for skyrim SE and Fallout 4, and after a while the mods stopped showing up. I couldn't install or uninstall them, I couldn't overwrite mods. While it said everything was fine in the modding tool vortex nothing happened in game. Made me go back to old Nexus Mod Manager again cause it's just so simple to use

So changing the load order for plugins is simple, but what about changing the load order for mods without esm or esp files? How do I set which texture files load first?
