Jeff discusses the 2024 KTM 500 XW-F and similar models with the stock pollutions systems and ECU as well as installing a Vortex ECU. If you are having trouble with your KTM 350, 450, 500, etc. flaming out, this is a great solution.

Stop with the excuses of "why you can't go out and ride!" Thanks for that and this video! I just got mine and can't wait to see what this thing does. Even tho it's 2-stroke season in CA, lol!

Thanks for the video Jeff. When do you anticipate have V-ECUs in stock for 2024 350 XW-Fs? I need one pronto. Lots of flame outs on my bike. By the way, the content of your videos and the customer service/knowledge when interacting with your parts department (Todd in this case) is excellent. Even though I live on the west coast I’m now hooked on improving my ride with Slavens parts and components. Thanks for all the you do and particularly for keeping the BS out of your content.

Hello: Vortex for the 350s won't arrive until January. We expect the GET SX-1 to arrive this coming week. Give us a call to get on the waiting list.

Seems like a substantial improvement. Would be interesting to know if further improvements are noticeable by taking that mesh off the pipe or removing the reeds. Does it get much louder removing the mesh?

@slavensrace1 Hey Jeff, saw one of your earlier videos on the XFW and how KTM no longer has the adjustable upper triple clamp and that the previous model years would fit. Did you do that? And how did it work out? Do you know if that’s the only thing on this new bike that would affect the geometry of the “riders compartment“? I’m wondering if some different foot pegs would be helpful. I’m 6 foot and that little bit of extra space makes a big difference

Hello: I'm tracking with your comments/questions but let's take a moment to sort out the correct terms. Geometry applies to the angles of the frame headset, shock angles, fork offset, and many other details of the rolling chassis. The information you are looking for is called ergonomics, which addresses how the rider's body fits the bike and controls. On both of my `24s (300 & 500) I ditched the stock forks and triple clamps in favor of the much better Slavens Mule MX Tech complete Raven forks slavensracing.com/shop/slavens-mule-mxt-blackjack-49mm-complete-fork-w-luxon-triple-clamp/ . They come with Luxon clamps that have 6 handlebar positions. I run mine in position 5. We have options for retaining the stock WP forks. Xtrig ROCS clamps slavensracing.com/shop/rocs-tech-triple-clamps/ give 6 positions and we also have the `23 XCW top clamp slavensracing.com/shop/4-position-top-triple-clamp-for-ktm-husqvarna-and-gasgas/ which is a cost effective option. We're also negotiating with a guy (not really a company yet) that has a bar mount option for the new clamp. It's a nice piece but cost more than the top clamp so we consider his price point to be a deal breaker. If he comes down on price we'll bring them in and post them on our site. Footpegs help to open up the Ergos. I use the 5mm down and 10mm back pegs by Carapak slavensracing.com/shop/stainless-steel-footpegs-by-carapaks/ . It's a high quality and very tough stainless steel product.

Very good info! I hope to be getting my '24 model 500 soon...I'm a newb to offroad bikes. If I may ask...why did you choose the VORTEX ECU over the TACOMOTO GET ECU. Is there a benefit to one or the other? I'd appreciate your input. Cheers from Denver Colorado (Just realized after watching the vid a 2nd time you either own or work for Slavens and thus run your own VORTEX product)

We sell both Vortex and GET ourselves. Both are an excellent product.

Hello We have been a GET retailer years before Taco was in business. GETs are a great product but not for everyone. If you suffer from tinkeritis, GET might be for you because they have many bells and whistles. They require some set-up and most riders never use even 10% of the functionality. They are really focused towards racers and race teams. Vortex, on the other hand, is plug and ride and have a great time. No set-up, no stress, no headaches. They produce just as much HP as the GET and have 10 preloaded maps. I prefer to ride and never change to other maps. The overall map works exceptionally well and I’ve been riding since I was a teen. Vortex is the box for you. Enjoy your new scooter. Regards, JS PS: Sorry for the slow reply, I’m on vacation in Peru and have a busy schedule.

Do you think you got a bad one? I just got one and it doesn’t do that. Same year bike. Same model. I have a honda crf450rl that flames out like your bike.
@slaverace1

Hello: No, I did not get a "bad one". All KTM 4 strokes from 2017 and up are too lean and run poorly. The feds in Europe and the USA make them have lean settings that cause the issues described.

Have you noticed much difference in fuel economy. With the fuel pick up getting limited kms already on the 24.

Hello Gary: I’m sorry, but I don’t have good fuel economy information yet. I’ve got quite a few miles on it, but it’s been a bunch of short 30-40 mile runs. I had a Vortex on my 2020 500 and it got around 55mpg on dual sport rides and a less on the trail.

Thanks for the video! Anyone know what stock "map" the '24 500 XW-F come in by default? Manual says Map 1 is "Predictable/Stable" and Map 2 is advanced, which I take to mean more aggressive. But NOT which one you get when they !@$#k you and don't include the damn map switch on your purchase (makes sense to make it an upgrade on the lower-end GasGas, but KTM??? Come ON!). What a bunch of BS (supply chain issues or not). I'm hoping that it is in map 1 default (300XCW seems to power up in Map 2 default, but that would make sense for a race circuit bike and to be Map 1 on one of these emission controlled bikes). I really am hoping that will address just a touch of the lower end fueling/torque issues IF I can find a map switch...
@slaverace1
@slaverace1 5 ай бұрын
Hello Jeff: ALL KTMs default to map #1 which is definitely NOT aggressive and both maps are WAY too lean, which causes the bike to easily flame out and lack power. If you want it to run correctly, install the Vortex slavensracing.com/?s=vortex&post_type=product and forget about it.

@@slaverace1 Thanks, Jeff! I already ordered and installed that very Vortex from you just yesterday! Thanks for the amazingly fast shipping/response! Interestingly, the dealer I bought from told me KTM doesn't support any map switching anymore (????) and they've just stopped supplying the switches for these bikes?? One map (huh????). Either way, I got the vortex in from you guys and the response is much better just in the shop. Had same hesitation/flame out from dead idle, you describe, but it wasn't really a problem at speed in the desert, just disappointed with low end torque, so hope that is much improved. Testing the low end torque in sand washes here in Southern Idaho tomorrow, but it sounds much better. Running with PMB Slip-on and in stock config (Map 1 and 555) for now. I didn't see anything about TPS resetting, but it seems good (this is a brand new week old bike). I heard there is a "hack" to use the starter button to enter traction control with vortex??? I tried but either map 1 doesn't support it or I'm not doing it right (heard the check engine light will flash quickly to indicate in TC mode if you quick tap starter when riding).
