Easy to follow I have used the Vortex a number of years and its tough and rugged I like it.

Fantastic go over on what these are best suited for. Just got a DD V7 Pro and trying to figure what red dot to put on top for CQC. I looked at the Spitfire 3x Gen II today, I don't think he has the Gen II, but as he stated its tough to get a site on it, any slight misalignment of your eye and you lose the view, plus the reticle is geared to the magnification, its nearly impossible to see the detail on it. Its easier to see on the 5x but still difficult to use the fine markings, you'd need 16 yr old 20/20 perfect eyes. So given those issues I took a pass on it for me, but may work for you. I looked at the Strike Fire II, being 1x of course its easy to acquire but I don't like the choice of a CR2 battery, looking at the size of the battery holder you'd think it was a AA. The biggest hold back on this for me was it seemed awfully huge for just a red dot, well its a red dot with adjustment but still seems huge. I much more like the idea of having large FOV sight with a flip away magnifier. I see it more as a flip up, for detail after acquiring a target. For me at least this is a much better setup than the Spitfire/Venom at least for quick target acquisition, although the Spitfire/Venom beats a Strikefire/magnifier it on space/weight, which are equally important considerations. The optic size is nice, in keeping with fast acquisition but I'd still like a larger optic, 34-35 mm as I saw on the more expensive Leopold Freedom RDS. Thats not a fair comparison as the Leopold is far more pricey than the Vortex and it does come with or without a really nice BDC dial on it and a good usable Christmas Tree reticle . There doesn't seem to be a magnifier for the Leopold, I saw someone team the 3x Spitfire with a Holosun but I dont know if it would work with the Leopold. A review I saw of the Leopold showed the red dot getting huge fringing on it at maximum brightness, turning its 2 MOA dot into a 10-20 MOA dot size So I' bouncing between the Leopold and the Strikefire/magnifier and probably will still keep reviewing choices. Didn't mean to write a book here , just thinking out loud, would love to hear your thoughts as well.
