I just wish so many people would realize the twist rate of the rifle helps make it a better cartridge. I’m not a long distance deer hunter 350-400 is my max. High BC is major important beyond that. The Creedmoor "hate" is a knee-jerk reaction to the over done hype associated with it. It isn't magic, and it isn't much different than much older cartridges.
@DanielReyes-hz1qkАй бұрын

@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballzАй бұрын
The difference is industry support, which is the make or break between cartridges that are mostly the same.
@DanielReyes-hz1qkАй бұрын
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Definitely true. And sometimes we disagree with cartridges the industry chooses to support. Personally, I like the newer style cartridges. Fatter, less tapered cases, sharper shoulders, longer necks, tighter chamber dimensions, faster twist SAAMI specs, etc
@mfallen2023Ай бұрын
A lot of people just don't like Hornady's marketing horseshit. All the little lies by omission, double-speak ("6.5 Creed is a long range game magnet!" Then they start getting hate from the conservationists and wardens/rangers finding all these gut-shot deer/elk due to novices thinking they can take an 800yd shot because of high BC's, and then: "6.5Creed was always intended as a target cartridge!" The "technically true-isms" that aren't practical for anything other than selling the round to those ignorant of the issues. (looking at you ARC's being "AR15-ready") Technically fits, but you need a bolt that costs as much as a Tikka T3 in order to not have bolt lug peen'ing off the barrel extension and/or shearing at really low round counts... Or if you're going to use a normal Carpenter 158 bolt you have two different pressure levels with that bolt face: SAAMI max for bolt-actions, about 8-10k psi less for AR15's. They don't tell the normies this though, they have to figure it out on their own. All companies are guilty of re-inventing the wheel when it comes to new cartridge designs, but only Hornady tacks all this extra bs into their marketing.
@DanielReyes-hz1qkАй бұрын
@mfallen2023 I guess I missed all the marketing. Which makes sense given I don't have a TV or read magazines, lol. And the 6.5 Creedmoor was literally designed as a target cartridge....I remember when it happened. I was into precision shooting at the time, in what a decade or so later became PRS, and saw the transition from 308s to 6.5mm cartridges like the 260 Remington. I'm pretty sure the 6.5 Creedmoor was born out of all of that at some point

This was fun (and funny). I own rifles chambered in various cartridges and a few in 6.5CM. Great fun on the bench/long range, tailor made for midwest whitetail hunters (with proper bullet choice) but it isn't the greatest thing ever nor is it the worst. It was over-hyped and that probably set the haters in motion. It ain't the greatest for sure but conversely, those who say "it sucks" should probably throttle it back because you just sound/come off rather dumb because it doesn't suck when used appropriately. It's just another cartridge and works fine for the right applications (just like every other cartridge ever created).

The marketing/hype made it easy to bully the cartridge, and there are a lot of cases of less than optimal results with high bc hunting projectiles when using them at closer than intended ranges. @BryanShull-lt8gzАй бұрын
According to the "Bible", Lee's second addition reloading manual, the 260 remington top velocity for 95 grain bullets is 3391 fps while the 6.5 creed is 3313. With 100 grain Barnes bullets 260 top velocity is 3171 fps and 6.5 is 3163 fps. Through 142 grain bullets they can both be loaded to nearly identical velocities. The Lee manual has data up to 160 grain bullets for the 260 Remington while it stops at 142 for the 6.5 Creedmoor. I have a 260 Remington Magpul with 1:8 twist barrel which makes the 6.5 Creedmoor unnecessary! It's a fine cartridge I just don't see the need to reinvent the wheel.
@shanehebert396Ай бұрын
I have a .260 w/ 1:8 as well, I had to order it. The main thing is that off-the-shelf rifles don't. That's kind of the point... the same thing for the 7PRC (compared to the 7RemMag) and others. You go buy the standard rifle from the store today and it has fast twist. When you buy one off your hunting buddy sometime down the line, it'll have the right twist. 40 years from now when you see one on sale at the local pawn shop, it'll have the right twist. They'll all have the right twist. That's not the case with a .260Rem or a 7RemMag.
@midwestbd7144Ай бұрын
@@shanehebert396100%. I argue with people all the time about this and why these new cartridges have their place. A fast twist 7mag will give the prc a run for its money but you’ll have to hand load because ammo manufacturers won’t produce bullets that won’t stabilize with the sammi twist rate or have an OAL that is too long

After years of looking down my nose at the masses being duped by the brilliant advertising that has made the creedmoor successful, I bought my first one today because I realized that it made the most sense… for a specific purpose: ringing steel at the local 300-900 yard range at minimum cost with minimum recoil, and be able to hunt deer if needed. Brass is free, I can pick up as much as I want in the bins at the range. Projectiles are about as cheap as you can get unless you go to a .22 diameter (and I wanted a big game legal cartridge). It burns about as little powder as possible to deliver a projectile at supersonic velocities at 900. So I’m eating my words a bit but that’s ok.

Just have a look at Ryan's Tikka with a 16" barrel in 308 Win that he used to kill 2 whitetails on a hunt posted on this channel 9 days ago. He showed the gun and talked about it in their episode 293. Barrel Length - Does Size Really Matter?

The 6.5 Creedmoor is no better (or worse) than the 260 Remington for hunting purposes. The 6.5 Creed’s main advantages over the 260 are popularity (thus availability) and ability to handle the longer, higher BC bullets. At sensible hunting ranges only the availability is significant. As stated in the video, it is not a magic cartridge and those many folks who say it is, is what turns people off of it.

No matter if it is for red fox or moose or anything in between in size. I did order a Tikka in 308 Win last week and it is also a great cartridge. The main reason for why I ordered this Tikka in 308 Win, is because of ammo availability. I intend to travel a lot to different corners of the world to hunt with this gun and I want to make sure that it will always be easy for me to find some kind of ammo I can hunt with.

I mean, it's a nice all around cartridge, it's not super expensive to shoot, plenty of factory loads, plenty of handloading potential, relatively low recoil, and supresses well too. But in the same vein I also can't understand why there is so much talk of it being made of magic and pixie dust. It has its limitations as does every cartridge. 6.5 creedmoor - a fine cartridge but one that is severely over hyped

I had two 6.5 Creedmoor's until a few days ago, I sold my Ruger American Predator to my cousin because this is the 4th season he has borrowed it for a deer season. Maybe it is the Vortex 4.5 x 14 x 50 When he predictably texted his request, this time asked if it was for sale.

Why re invent the 6.5x55 Swede? Love to hear about more mid bores. Love the show.

10:39 those sentiments are correct. Every cartridge IS simultaneously the best and the worst. The best for its intended purpose, the worst for things outside of that.

I say the exception to that is 30-06. It's the best at everything and cannot be beaten. 😅 🍿 🍿 🍿 Ill wait here for the fun.

I just now decided that 6.5 Creedmoor is the Nickelback of cartridges. It’s perfectly fine, but got too popular too fast and now gets undue hate. 260 Remington is basically the same without the highs and lows.
