It's so nice to see a person that actually researched the subject, unlike few videos I've seen where people would complain of poor quality because the "crown is wobbly", or wouldn't have a clue why the watch is part of the horological history and shows a different approach to watchmaking. Thank you!

This is exactly what got me into watches. The fact that a lot of watches have each their own history is what makes it nice to wear on the wrist. Cool comparison with the blackbird.

I love the Russian philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't try and fix it" This design works so why change the design, Same way of thinking as with Soyuz! Loved the video review so much I have just jumped on Amazon and ordered one :-)

I just love these watches, especially the 710 and 420 case styles. They are so easy to modify. As with yours a simple brush finish on the case and bezel really elevate the look. I now have 8 in my collection which have had their bezels changed and strapped on nato's. They look great.

I had been eyeing this watch for a long time but could not make up my mind. I was not convinced about it, I thought that being Russian it would not be any good. After watching several videos I decided to give it a try. I don’t know how to explain it, but I’ve been wearing it for a week now and I can’t stop looking at it or take it off. I own several Orient, Seiko, Phoibos, Casio, and others, and I don’t know what it is about this watch that I like so much. I put it on a Strapcode Hexad bracelet and it looks fantastic. And to top it off I’ve been monitoring it since I synchronized it with my iPhone and it is only 1 minute behind in 5 days!!! Unbelievable. I love this watch.

This is by far the best video on Wostok watches, it is very clear and you know the subject very well. I have been using an amphibia 420 case as my daily beater and I can tell you it has gone through alot, diving, caving, mountain biking, abseiling and hiking and it just keeps on ticking, I don't think any other watch will replace my vostok as my daily wearer. Vostok was not actually the first to use that caseback securing design. I'm not sure who was, but I have a Bulova from 1955 that uses the same design and I've seen other Bulovas of the era that use it as well. Additional fun fact: SR 71 Blackbird Pilots wore Bulova Accutrons for their accuracy and ability to withstand forces better than a traditional watch. Sorry, huge Bulova fan here, lol!

Watch Geek Well, I'd say the Soviets were making everything by themselves. Now our watch industry is cutting corners everywhere they can, so they produce a lot of parts in China. There're even Chinese made fakes of Vostoks and Raketas on sale here.

hey, you wear your amphibia often, correct? have you ever had any problems with its movement?
@WatchGeek5 жыл бұрын
Nope, never. I thought I had when I noticed the seconds hand stopped a couple of times, but I realized it just jumps in front when you shake the wrist in a certain way and then gets caught up by the movement, which is the result of the shock protection system this movement has, so it's quite normal and doesn't affect the timekeeping

Congrats on a new watch!! Automatics can't be wound all the way, or should I say, you can't reach an end where it stops, as it has a clutch that simply slips so you can still wind, but it doesn't do anything.
