Found this after binging all your One Piece videos! Really like the style and I look forward to watching more from yall. On the subject of Pike referring in the plural to Grog (buddies), the VA Ashley has said that that is a quirk of her own speech that when speaking of something g cute she tends to say whatever adjective or name in plural. She just views the plural as cuter somehow

I love Critical ROle and teh series was awesome! Would you make a little 1h single player campaign for your dad and record it? i would love to see him experience it first hand :D And the Critical ROle Livestreams compared to teh show are just dragged out and much more jokes xD but in general i completely agree watching it makes me wanna play dnd!

I'm pretty sure by the time the tv plot was happening in game, all characters were around level 10, they already have fought a beholden and everything (the flashback of keileith drowning a guy in lava is of this campaign arc). But they play a bit more loosely with the time-line and some other little things to make the show more enjoyable.

19:07 The last barrel was NOT for Cassandra. In fact, in the last episode the gun lists Grog's, Vex's & Vax's name on it at different times. That barrel in fact can NEVER have a name permanently inscribed on until, well.... I'll just say this, go back and watch the moment when the question is asked to Percy "Who's the last barrel for?", look at his shadow, and you will see who the last barrel is for.

Why Pike refers to Grog in plural? Because Ashley Johnson (Pike’s player) thinks it’s cute and they are buddies ❤

Glad you're both enjoying VM. Something to keep in mind, season 2 and season 3 are linked by the one arc so definitely take your time on it. Also a fun fact there's a running gag of Matt Mercer appearing as an NPC in every episode. If you rewatch it'd fun to see if you can find them.

i don't agree that percys insistence on forging ahead is meta gaming, they had started a revolution, if they left when they returned the entire town would be dead, also the solstice was a few days away if they didnt go NOW the briarwoods would have been successful in bringing back the whispered one, you as a DM KNOW who the whispered one is, if you dont, google it, they had to push forward, they knew the solstice was their timebomb from the charts in Anders house, there was 0 amount of time to go to a temple

I always liked critical role because I knew the voice actors from different anime. They are very talented people. The show just put them back in their comfort zone.

As someone who DMs but can only get my 3 players together on average once every 5 weeks or so (and as a player who always has campaigns never starting, or going only a few sessions), Critical Role (as well as the various other DnD "Actual Plays" I watch) fits my taste of "Damn, I wish I could play this game more." So I'm able to watch hours upon hours of this stuff without getting the feeling of "I just wanna go play it now" since I was already having that feeling. Also, I think the Grinch line is "dahu dooray" but I can see the connection that was made, even though I've known both for more than half a decade and I never made the connection myself. To add to the other comment about the characters being higher leveled, the first two episodes were the original plan for their kickstarter for the series. Just to have a two episode story that sort of fit right at the end of the campaign's time prior to their streaming (since they had run it for more than a year before it began streaming). The rest of the season being a different story pulls from one of the earliest arcs of that Campaign. I haven't watched the streams of the Whitestone Arc (the rest of season 1), but from my understanding, Percy had a list of 5 people to kill. I don't believe the list was on each side of the revolver section of the gun. If you notice in the fight between the party and the demon that was possessing Percy, all of Vox Machina's names appear on the revolver. The player for Percy talked about it during the Campaign wrap-up years later, but "the list" for the gun to shoot was always going to populate with more names after he killed those first 5 people. That's how the demon would keep its hold on Percy. Not sure how it played out in the actual session, but that was knowledge that stuck in my head when I watched Season 1 of the animated series. Glad you're choosing to avoid binge-ing the second season. From what I remember, the series released with 3 episodes at a time, so stopping at episodes 3, 6, and 9 (and the finale) would probably be good breaks if you enjoy it enough to watch more than an episode or two since they were planned break points. Pike and Grog have been friends since they were children, and since Grog's never been on the bright side "buddies" is just a term of endearment between the two of them. I don't know the reason behind it, but think of it as a nickname. As far as I know, there's no reason to read into that one.

How was Percy's answer matagaing? Percy has spent a lot of time dreaming and preparing for revenge. Off course he's gonna put that up on his priority list. Plus he is literrly consumed by revenge demon and does not care much about his own life. I would say his response was the farthest away from metagaming.

Ehh, if someone gave a completely logical response to the situation at hand(recommending a temple/exorcism) then the player inherently knows that's the *correct* and logical thing to do in said situation. Giving an excuse to continue, even with an in-story reason to back it, is still a form of meta-gaming on the player's part. And the rest of the party going along with it, despite knowing the correct course of action, is as well. The characters *should* be focusing on fixing their friend who's obviously going through something, yet they all actively ignore it. It's not disruptive meta-gaming, mind you. Not all meta-gaming is disruptive or bad, and at some point there is always a need to meta-game in any campaign. Despite not knowing who's the players behind the characters on screen, I can see their thought process in real time through the scene, and that really screams it for me. -Noah

@@PorkChopsRiceandPeaches I agree with your first line. The player inherently knows it (although I would argue there is no "correct" thing to do), but not the character. It's the character who should be making the decisions in a perfect roleplaying scnerio, and given the chance, Percy will make the same decision 100% of the time. Would other players stop him? Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. Vox machine are can be very self absorbed and they are not exactly friends, and without spoiling anything, there is a big plot point coming that will explore further how detached they are from each other . Plus most of them don't even realise how bad the situation with percy is, and they have no time to process this either. If I put myself in any of the character's shoes, this is the only decision I can see them making. I'd argue that doing the opposite would be metagaming. And I feel like you are projecting your own DnD games here, which is fair but might not be 100% the same.
