Yeah Chopper is the make it or break it for the Live Action. CGI Chopper would be too expensive and a kid actor would age too fast. I personally would want a “little person“ actor with practical effects to play chopper.

I disagree with 'pirates means something different in this world' because a lot of the preconception we have about real world pirates come from outside sources saying that they're evil, they're wicked, they're bad. A lot of things that is said about lots of marginalised groups. A lot of pirates were gay, or escaped slaves, or other noncomformists for instance, and they had nowhere else to go or be and being pirates was the only way not to get persecuted by the rest of the world. Now, did they go around raping and pillaging? A lot of them probably did, some of it may have been propaganda, but sure many of them did - not that much different than the 'good guys' of the time though. I'd even say that if you look at the pirates in the context of the time period, they were probably a lot more forgiving, welcoming, and nonjudgemental than the people in power. This is part of the lens Oda is trying to hold to, not only pirates, but all groups that are painted as evil by those in power who's word we take for granted. There are good pirates and bad pirates. Love the discussions!

"Hawkeyes" is his epithet. One Piece loves using them (likely cause it feels very in-line with how Pirates were named irl.) So you'll get "Red-haired" Shanks, "Straw-hat" Luffy, and "Hawkeyes" Mihawk. In the live action you could see this when Buggy introduced himself with a bunch of names he's supposedly known by: "The Genius Jester" "The Bombastic Clown" Etc.

May we all hit landfall to where the OnePiece is..been on sail for years.
