The Vox is like wow wow wow wow wow. The Morley is like wih wih wih wih wih. I've had a Morley volume/wah/distortion pedal since the mid 90's and I was never happy with it. I recently bought a second hand Vox v487 from Japan, and I was instantly happy with it. I want wow wow wow, not wih wih wih. The Vox is so much better looking also.

I think morley has the wah sound that suitable for rock lead solo... its trebely so its easier to cut thru busy rock mix..let alone some morley series is switchless so its easier to pull "audience is listening" thing... Meanwhile vox wah sweep in mid range stuff.. so its shine in funk wah application than in lead solo

Thank you. Nice video. I also have both. I tend to use the Morley for fuzz, distortion, and overdrive and I use Vox for clean. I also swapped in a red fasel inductor and lower gain transistors in the Vox.

I do love them both. And have it. Just try yourself.

The Morley has a wider range, and is a modern step up from the Vox, which is more iconic and funky, still has a good quack the old Vox! Especially with other pedals etc. But keen to experiment with a Morley to see how it's overtones differ from the Vox's especially with that wider range. I think the Morley would work better on bass due to its wider (more noticeable) sweep range.

I use the morley after getting rid of my crybaby which I found over-saturated the sound on certain frequencies . The way to use the morley is to keep your foot position central and don't use the extremes of the sweep . It does however lose volume at the bass frequency extreme , but the tone is good

why does the classic wah have more range than the other modern wahs?
@daad32107 жыл бұрын
y play a lot bass with fuzz, and to emulate cliff burton tone the morley is the best, also because of the aperture of the wah

for clean/breakup: VOX...... for crunch/dist. :Morley.. it has a nice "cut through the mix" attitude

The Morley sounds like a Synthesizer Filter Sweep - there is No Articulation with Making a Clear WAH SOUND. ( I.M.O. ) Morley Wah Pedals are The Worst I have ever heard. ( but to each his own ). There are so many ( better choices ) and Fantastic Wah Pedals: Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, Xotic Effects XW-1, MXR/CAE MC-404, RMC, Vox Vintage Wah ( just to name a few ). - Michael Caz - NYC -

I agree in you wrt the new Morley pedals. The funny thing is that my older tel ray Morley pedal sweep sounds more like the vox, with a deeper sweep.
@CaptainRaab6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't even call the Morley a wah pedal, it's it's own filter sweep thing. Once you figure out where to sandwich it into a pedal chain it can do incredible things. Once I figured that trick out I became all about the Morley. I used to HATE them but now it's all I'll use.
@Yourd4d3 жыл бұрын
I can agree about your point with the Morley pedals now but the Tel Rays are just dominant. The Power Wah PWO has a monster sweep which would mop the floor with the Vox and most wahs today.

Morley vs weepingdemon ???

I would personally go with the weeping demon. Much more versatile and sounds like the 70s Wah in stock settings ( all at noon)

Had one morley and it didn’t work with tube amp, maybe some ground issues. Worked well with transistors amp

Morley has a wider range, and this requires less course to achieve the maximum point of normal wah. the top end is almost useless. I own a Crybaby, and the same Morley as you. to keep the natural voicing you must open until 40% of it's total course. And that's not so useful for those ho are used to the other pedals, but, if you need an extra vowel on your sound you'll have on the other extra 60% but, essentially Morley has the same characteristics between Dunlop and Vox. The problem is almost no one has this sensibility to operate it

Yeah, that feature wahs deliberately left out to prevent Wahbuse by both yourself and your farther, Mr Kirk Wahmmet. Sorry about that. Kind regards Carl from the VOX Wahvelopment team.

VOX! This is a classic example of why specs and nerd gear forum threads mean absolutely nothing. Morleys sound awful.
