Don't let the size fool you! The most compact member of the VOX ToneLab Series, the ToneLab ST is the choice for on-the-go tone. In a single compact, road-ready pedal unit, ToneLab ST combines our tube-driven Valve Reactor circuitry, Valvetronix amp & cabinet modeling, plus serious sounding effects, including twenty "song-specific" presets. Equally at home in the studio, ToneLab ST works as an ASIO compatible USB audio interface. Catch a guided tour of the ToneLab ST's key features, and listen in as Freddy and Tom check out some sounds. I have one and It is awesome. I have had it for about 7 years now. It is real tube tone. I have tried several different tubes and it changes the sound quite a bit. Mine came with a Ruby 12AX7A and I found it to be mediocre sounding, lacking highs, sounded like cheap fuzz when pushed. I tried a Chinese 12AX7B and it was warmer, but quieter and had fairly smooth overdrive. I tried a used old (1960s) GE 12AX7; similar to 12AX7B, but louder. I tried a Sovtek 12AX7LPS, nice and loud, but harsh highs and too much headroom (not enough overdrive). Finally I settled on a JJ ECC803S. Nice and loud, but warm sounding, buttery smooth overdrive that gets nasty (in a good way) when pushed.

It's only 12v so theres no possible way that your getting any real tube benefits. That's enough to cover heater voltage but it's just not ideal. I'm not saying it's a total gimmick cause I used to use an orange valve state micro terror as a backup/practice amp and t was great but I ditched it cause it didnt have a loop (the dark does though). Anyways point being at those voltages the type of tube shouldn't make much difference. And a 12ax7lps as you might already know isnt touted as a great V1 tube, more as a great low noise phase inverter tube. But I talked to a few guys on Marshall amp forum years ago who used them in v1 and were happy with the results. Anyways, I'm not trying to trash your set up or the unit. It actually seems like a great practice set up and used prices are pretty low. With tubes being harder to come by and more expensive due to the war in Ukraine and its sanctions I'm looking for a cheap set up to take some of the load off my Narshall DSL100HR. So in other words I'm looking for a solid state (power section specifically) amp that I can use sometimes so I'm not always using my Marshall. I have a DIY S.S. among but its low wattage. I build guitars, pedals and amps and mod them as well....a lot lol. So I'm debating getting a unit like this Vox or just building a power amp to use with my Marshall's preamp (which would have to be like 400 watts solid state to get close the 100watt tube power). I like high wattage amps specifically so I can play really clean and still be heard over drums. Anyways, do you still have the Vox unit? Would you recommend it in my case?

yes if you hold the button that changes the amp models from special to custom, then you turn of amp modeling, if you click the cabinet button you turn off the cabinet modeling, in the back there is a selector that lets you choose between mixer, marshall, fender and vox,

I have this thing I just bought it yesterday :D it is really crazy. I really recommend you guys this thing. You don't have to waste money to buy 50 effect pedals (costs about $10 000 in total) this thing pretty much has everything and it only costs $200 (In my country-Indonesia) @2112man400 there will be a piece of paper telling the songs' numbers covering the tunelab thing

Dang last comment 4 years ago. So seems this pedal got some hate however coming from someone who has played guitar for 16 years now this pedal is perfect. not for a pedal board but for quiet listening. I use it when my 7 month old is sleeping, Ive carried it to multiple states played in hotel rooms with no worries of noise complaints. Plug my iPad into the aux for click tracks and music. Headphones into the stereo output and boom there you go. This pedal also actually sounds better through headphones than an actual amp anyway. It ain’t the best sounding thing I’ve heard as far as pedals go but it is a multi effects pedal after all and shit for the price and what I use it for I love it

Hi Jesse, do you still have the Tonelab ST? I have a later Vox Pedal, the small Stomplab GII and wonder if the Valvetronix really is a difference in tone or if the late AMP simulations of the GII are better? Any help to decide buying or not an used Tonelab ST? Thank you in advance.

i just got mine and i connect it to the return input instead of the guitar input, that way the gain volume and tone controls of the amp don't work, i select the mixer option in the back of the tone lab and i switch off cabinet modeling cause it makes an ugly noise with heavy palm muted note on distortion

I love this pedal but I had a question about bypassing also. I have the amp set to Vox, since I'm playing through my AC15 and the amp modeling is off..but when you want to switch to an overdriven tone, do you have to click that amp abinet button again? Seems a little difficult compared to a regular stomp box..

No. Direct in. The demo is deceptive. Great observation. If you have to play an amp/cabinet simulation through an amp and cabinet, hasn't the simulation utterly failed?

@@dewdude2112 Hi, can you help me? I already have an stomplab 2g I wonder if the Valvetronic Circuit of the Stomplab ST will add more realistic sound? Is it going to be an improvement or should I continue with my Stomplab? Thank you
@dewdude2112
@dewdude2112 4 жыл бұрын
@@igrinspun I honestly can't say as I haven't played the 2g. I still use my Tonelab SE for some things....but have recently been using the smaller Digitech RP360 XP and it is fantastic. I still think the tube of the Valvetronic Circuit can give a warm amp=like tone and feel. Just a little bit large for most things. The ST might be worth trying if you can find the right price.

If you don't have good amp or mics this type of emulation is perported to be a solution. I don't believe this video sound- (played) from a mic/amp gives any evidence to support the claim. Hence the pedal's discontinuation.

I am really fed up of the majority of gear demos just being a vehicle for faceless guitarists to show off, pose, make "earnest" faces and assume everybody on the entire planet is mesmerised by their ability to"widdle" for hours on end. Here's a thought. How about letting a few "boring" clean chords ring out to give people and idea of what THE GEAR and NOT THE GUITARISTS sound like........
