I'm not sure Allen had anything to do with Earthquake. But he did series in the 70s like swiss family Robinson and failed tv pilots like city beneath the sea Or maybe that was a miniseries. It was alot harder to get imaginative series greenlight in the 70s Gene Roddenberry had the same issues Maybe because how expensive budgets had gotten

Another favorite monster episode of mine. I like how the giant manfish was tossing around the Seaview. The only thing I didn't like was that Richard Basehart was not in this episode. I understand he started to fall ill during the episode "The Monster's Web" and was absent in the next two episodes which is this one and "The Mechanical Man".
@TooleManTV
@TooleManTV Жыл бұрын
That's what I have always heard, too. During "The Monster's Web," Nelson is "injured" and wears a bandage covering his face and head for the rest of the episode. You hear him speak from under the bandages a few times, but those lines were recorded in postproduction. I would have liked seeing Admiral Nelson in "The Menfish," but Gary Merrill was a fine substitute.

Im always stopping to watch this era of color tv and majority of the films far out outstanding once everything was remastered for today's TVs and monitors. How considerate of the manfish to never roll the sub past 45 degrees. Nor does any other monster that I recall in the whole series. It sure would ruin the crew's day to be banging off the ceilings. The creature's roar sounded an awful lot like a TIE fighter. When the thing grew to giant size, its roar should change in pitch at least a bit, eh.

Also like William Read Woodfield and Alan Balter as tv writers. They also did two decent Lost in Space episodes. Mission Impossible and others. Balter collaborated with another writer on two decent Outer Limits. I wish they had used them more on Lost and Voyage instead of Peter Packer and William Welch.,who were mostly horrible. Irwin used them obviously because they worked fast
@TooleManTV
@TooleManTV 11 ай бұрын
I agree! Woodfield by himself wrote most of the outstanding episodes of season one, and with Balter they wrote some of the best of season two. I read that they did not like working for Irwin, and they left the show after season two.
@AdmiralNelson1000
@AdmiralNelson1000 7 ай бұрын
"Worked Fast". True. After season 2, it's mostly about speed. I'm offering a defense of the writers here though . They're following the course change handed down from the very top (not Irwin). Season 1 and 2 had proven to be very expensive and the price for renewal for year 3 was an extensive "trimming" of the product. Production people who prepared the old "Tom Clancy" format did indeed leave the show.

What I can't stand about this episode is that the Capt drops his gun when the lunatic doctor is threatening the admiral. All he had to do is shoot him in the head and turn the gizmo off. Simple and easy. It really is a stretch to think he's in charge of the Seaview but doesn't have the guts or brains to kill the psycho. Oh well I still love the show and really appreciate you putting it up here for us old fogeys 😂🤣😂🤣 And yes we had the best shows. The best variety and good actors.

@TooleManTV
@TooleManTV 10 ай бұрын
These episodes were edited by the distributor to run on broadcast TV channels. About two minutes have been cut from the original program, and the film has been sped up slightly to make up for the rest of the time needed for commercials. The cuts occur in various places and are different lengths. Each cut may be only a few seconds long. The DVD's are the full-length episodes. As far as I know, there are no plans for a blu-ray release... but wouldn't that be great!

I think 20th Century Fox provided the HDTV versions with the cuts for MeTV and any other channel that pays to run the show. Took them long enough, too. The old syndicated films were bad - scratchy, dark, and ugly to watch. I have upgraded the video more after recording the broadcasts from a local HD channel, but it would not be possible without an HDTV source.
