The problem with this movie is not that is bad, the problem is that, one, they kill the monster in the end, something that never should be allowed, and two, as always the U. S. blame someone else for the creation of Godzilla, Godzilla is a nuclear weapons allegory, that allegory would have worked better if the nuclear test were made in the Marshall Island instead of the French Polynesia, that would show that the U. S. created their own monster, but it was to much studio and military interference in this movie, they hadn't changed the script the movie would have been much better.

@@ech78928 I like the design of this Godzilla, I wish that it was more like the Godzilla in the later films, you know, the indestructible machine that nearly non of human military weapons could destroy, not get me wrong, the original design is a classic, but this one actually look like an animal, luckily the animated series of this movie does a much better version of Godzilla than this movie.

@@TheKeyser94 I don't exactly get what you mean by killing the monster in the end. In Godzilla Vs Destroyah, they did kill Godzilla in the end anyways. Does it really matter if one country made it or not, the fact remains is that it was created either way and that people are dying because of the mistakes made by people. I genuinely liked the movie. It was never meant to honor Godzilla, I like to think of it as a movie that tries to take a godzilla like creature and make it more scientifically plausible. No matter how big you are, you ain't gonna survive against 12 missiles.

But this is a pretty damn good movie as its own spin off. U kinda empathize with the ANIMAL. This movie aint bout godzilla stomping on everything and everyone on his way to rule the world and subjugate the human raze as pets. Its bout human mistakes and its impact in the ecosystem. An animal, subproduct of nuclear testings, finding its place in earth, and humans struggling to stay as the apex species of the world. Pretty damn good movie. Years later, thanks to the internet, I found out about all the bad reviews, and it was very confusing, it still is to this day ... It seems that people criticize this movie just for criticizing it ... I'm not saying this is a perfect movie, but it's certainly a lot better than many people think. I do not get why people say the CGI in this movie is bad. Yes it can have its awkward moments like in the 5:49 mark and sometimes you might not feel the weight of it especially when it starts running. Other than those shortcomings, the movie does a good job to give you a sense of its size since the movie is filmed at a human's point of view for most of the movie and the crew did have to make CGI models to convey a 200 foot monster from said point of view. So yeah, I think the CGI actually quite good for the time, sure not Jurassic Park good, but still better than in a lot of other films in the 90s.

I prefer Godzilla 1998 to 2014... I saw this movie twice on cinemas in 1998. I Got the imported USA VHS, DVD and 4K😎😎😎 6:48 Godzilla entrance was my favourite moment. 2014 entrance mehh.... They Cut him after 5 seconds... I think King of the Monsters was better and the true Godzilla film. But Critics Killed It... And the box Office was the same as the 1998 film.

All of Emmerich's films that I've seen, I honestly like the hell out of. All of them get surprisingly low scores, and I honestly have no idea why. This one is probably my favorite from Emmerich, as well as The Day After Tomorrow and '2012'.
