These camera didn't use CCD or CMOS, it used a vidicon tube (vacuum tube) But you know why they took amazing photos? First they were attached to the top quality optics and they just sent "raw" iB&W image back to Earth where all the processing was done with banks of mainframes. My how times changes

There can't be many people aged 50+ who don't have a huge soft spot for the Voyagers. Every time I see one of their images I feel sort of sorry that they're out there alone. Which is silly, I know, but over the decades I've heard so much about them that I feel like I know them. It would be interesting to know what happened to the various probes (NASA or otherwise) which flew past their targets (deliberately or otherwise!). Are they still out there travelling in the general direction of out of the solar system? What about the Pioneers? Were it not for them Voyagers wouldn't have - or rather may not have been as successful as they were. More should be taught about them- brave little robots :,(

Vishal Sheth for what? What are we trying to prove? Beside spending money.!
@vishalsheth1888
@vishalsheth1888 6 жыл бұрын
For Science maybe? Understanding our purpose in the universe? To spread out among the stars eventually? For long term scientific discovery and understanding? Life changing inventions don't come about in a few years or decades, but over a period of centuries. It was considered a "waste of money" & effort trying to prove Einstein's general theory of relativity but a 100 years later we can't imagine life without it. Without it most gadgets you use, internet and other things we take for granted wouldn't have been possible.
@smileyhomeimprovementsjohn6165
@smileyhomeimprovementsjohn6165 6 жыл бұрын
Vishal Sheth The thing we are doing on earth is necessary for us, and maybe some aren't that important, so spend as much money , time, and effort to advance the technology, science, medicine, and economy, and spiritual lives on earth, going to space, nup!! we have more problems on our beautiful earth to worry, than going out there to space. plus, why isn't nasa or other agancies working to build, and advance the robots to do the hard works and dangerous missions, like Mars missions, or we only want to build robots to take our jobs and making proffet for ceos, and the big corporations,!!!$$$ Think twice before spending that kind of efforts, money and time. Even traveling with the speed of light, can take 100s of years to search on any life like ours, or maybe different.
@vishalsheth1888
@vishalsheth1888 6 жыл бұрын
To me at least I can't imagine how we can't go to space eventually. To think of living in this small island in the vast cosmic ocean, and not to, never to ever venture out, would be the greatest travesty for mankind. Of all the forms of matter and life in the universe, we have the intellect to observe and try and understand this beautiful universe and turn away from it to merely survive as animals is unacceptable. The virtue that sets us apart from other creatures is curiosity and urge to explore. Where would humanity be if Columbus or Magellan had decided against exploration and said it would be better to fix problems back home? To have such a narrow mindset as to only spend money on immediate problems we face would be ultimately the cause of our extinction. There are a million ways in which all life on Earth could go extinct and some are inevitable. A major asteroid impact happens every 200,000 years or so, what then? You simply let your great grandkids die just because we didn't have the foresight to accept the basic fact that the earth cannot be our home forever? We spend billions of dollars on unnecessary wars can't we spend a fraction of it on space? Survival reasons aside, I would like humanity to explore space merely for the philosophical reasons and to fulfil or urge to explore. Maybe we never venture out into space and create a perfect utopia on Earth, but we'll always be ignorant the great majesty of the universe and we will stagnate. The closest thing that we have to the purpose of humanity would be to understand the universe and life and we won't survive long enough to figure it out unless we settle out in the stars. Maybe you can live with not knowing, I can't.

Truly awesome pictures and information - I'm glad to have lived through this mission. One day it'll be recognised for one of the most important space objectives of all times. I read last week (from the JPL Space Centre) scientists are switching everything off so as to preserve power for a few extra years...apparently the plutonium power source loses about 4 watts per year and they hope by switching off nearly all of the sensors it'll last till about 2030 or thereabouts.

New Horizons was Voyager 3. It saw Pluto, and Arrokoth. We won't need any more Flyby craft though, because the Parker Solar probe is flying by Venus, Juno + Cassini-Huygens did great work on Jupiter and Saturn, and Uranus and Neptune are just kinda uninteresting and expensive.

What I don't understand is why they're not sending dozens more of these voyagers with higher technology we have now we should keep sending them in all directions .. they take so long to get anywhere we're just wasting time

*cough cough* New horizons, Juno, Cassini, *cough cough* Perserverance, Spirit, Curiosity *cough* All those proves and rovers do a lot more than Flyby (accept for NH, which did only flyby) because you aren't gonna figure out too much over the course of 7 hours of photos and probably seeing one day, with nowhere near full camera exposure, as opposed to a orbiting probe that lasts for 20 years, and can study cloud formations, storms, lightning, and the moons, as well as carry out experiments that take a long time to do

Our planets and their moons Mercury (no moon) Venus (no moon) Earth (one moon -- called The Moon) Mars (2 moons -- Phobos and Deimos) Jupiter (many moons -- biggest one is Ganymede, other well-known ones are Io, Europa, and Callisto) Saturn (many moons -- Titan [has an atmosphere], some others are Tethys, Dione, Mimas, Enceladus) Uranus (many moons -- some are Umbriel, Oberon, Ariel, and Miranda) Neptune (many moons -- including Triton and Neso) I agree that tiny Pluto (smaller than the Earth's Moon) is a dwarf planet-- not a full planet. But Pluto does have 5 moons. The largest, called Charon, is nearly the size of Pluto and the two orbit each other like a binary system. The Voyager spacecraft did not pass by Pluto, so it is not represented in the video.

Wait. Titan is like an impossible planet to get to. But it has that blue o zone layer meaning it could be a sustainable planet to live on.
