Great video! Headed up for our first time 4 nights in end of July and taking this same route but staying on houseboat 2 nights then my island west 2 nights. Kinda nervous packing in enough and navigating and we've never fished for walleye before.....

Thanks! We were a bit nervous too the first time. Take your time. There is no need to rush. If you can, grab a Hot Spot lake make of the areas; they're pretty invaluable for navigation and to help find some fish. Also, keep in mind the first couple of times you go up there, you should have exploration mind set. Banking some background knowledge is the key for future successes. Good luck and, above all, have agreat time! Thanks for watching!

Love your videos! What all campsites have you been to and which were best for fishing?

We have been to Hammer Bay Point (N69) and then Birch Cove Island (N1) on Namakan. Both are just a jump away from many good fishing spots. We have also stayed at Granite Cliff North (S6) on Sand Point Lake. The fishing was OK around there, but worth the boat ride to get over to Namakan. I hope that helps and thanks a ton for watching!

@@teamjohnsonoutdoors4647 Thanks for the info. We are planning our first trip for next June. We have decided to go in through Ash River. I take it you enter through Crane lake? We will be coming up from Wisconsin.

No problem! Yes, we go through Crane Lake. I have no experience going through Ash River. Sorry! I hope you have a great trip when the time comes.

@@teamjohnsonoutdoors4647 I've been using the VNP camping map and comparing that with my navionics to check structure and contours. Have you gone in early June ever? If so we're all the fish shallow as one would expect.

Yes, we have been up there in June. We were catching our fish in about 8-12 feet of water at that time of year. We were still focusing on whatever weed edges we could find then as well.

The barge belongs to the national park. My dad ran the barge years ago.

How many gallons of gasoline did you end up using on your boat?
@teamjohnsonoutdoors4647
@teamjohnsonoutdoors4647 10 ай бұрын
We average about 10 gallons on our trips. That will depend on how much additional motoring you want to do and what type of motor you have. My 40 horse four stroke is pretty easy on gas. Obviously, it's better to have more than you need and not need it, rather than the alternative. Thanks for watching!

Planning a trip for 2024 may or june..was wondering how long it took you get the your campsite? Is there a fee for parking at the launch?

We typically go in June, but this trip was in July.. It took us about an hour to motor in. There is no fee to park at the launch. Good luck if you go and have fun! Also, thanks for watching!

@@teamjohnsonoutdoors4647 have you entered from both Crane lake and Ash River? Could you give any advice for campsites with better fishing in the area? Taking my 2 grandsons. Thank you

We have only been out of Crane Lake. I know nothing about the Ash River access. Hammer Bay Point, Rainbow Island, and Rusty Island are nice sites. Check out this link for more info: www.nps.gov/media/photo/gallery.htm?pg=3392595&id=92D20859-A3A4-88F9-7682ADE6A571B1F0

@@teamjohnsonoutdoors4647 we are planning the weekend of August 23-26. Neither of the sites mentioned are open. Do you know anything about grassy bay or feldt channel? I like the structure there.

I do not know a ton about that area, we did stay at Granite Cliff North before which is just north of Grassy Bay. That was a nice campsite, it is mostly a big bare rock though. We did fish around that area and we got a few. If you haven't already, check out this video, which was partially shot at that campsite. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opitgKGird13h7csi=-hcal2Z34CtERMVZ
