Yeah I'll tackle that when I get the Aled strips, I have an idea that I wanna try out. I also want them to not need to be removed when lifting the monitor up too. Thanks for the watch!

I figure it will have to be screwed to the cab inner walls or to the playfield monitor mount board. I'll have to wait and see.

Another great video, thanks! I personally recessed the playfield at the back to create real side blades and don't regret it. I find the ones created in vpx take up some of the screen real estate making the playfield smaller.

Thanks! Yeah it's really just personal preference. I'm still not 100% on the flush to the glass as it leaves zero room for a good angle on the matrix. I might put it back down if it looks bad or I want a better view of the matrix. I'll wait till the matrix is in to see. Easy enough to switch

Sweet, sweet, oled joy. One can dream of an oled playfield.. but mine would have to be a 48 inch. got a free ultra wide body from a guy off marketplace but that playfield is be massive. Since oled isnt in the cards im looking at a used sony or samsung

Or one day soon the used market might start filling up with these tvs. Hell a C1 or C2 is getting on 3-4 years now already. I hear ya though, this is the big budget build, my old vpin has a 14 year old used tv in it that was $50 CAD.....lol. Thanks for the watch!

Thanks Emil. On my build I'm thinking about adding rails to the top and bottom ( left and right from the players perspective) of the playfield mount board that come close but not touch the cabinet walls and mount LED strips on that. So when you rotate the playfield upwards the LED strips and the surface they are mounted too rotate with the playfield. A 1/16 inch or 1/8 gap will help stop rubbing the sidewalls and the LED Strip can cover the remote sensor on the tv

@wayofthewrench so how would you deal with the on/ off button and sensor that extends out from the screen? I've been trying to deal with this issue myself. I've also thought about removing that little protrusion all together. What are you thinking?

Emil, great video as always. I know there are several comments/questions about mounting the playfield flush to the glass vs tilted. So, if you go flush to the glass, does that mean that all tables will need to have the POV option enabled in order to look correct? and if there is no POV option for a table is there a problem running the table with the playfield mounted flush to glass? Sorry for the confusion, but this is a critical decision in the build and I'm trying to consider the Pros/Cons. Maybe we could put a mechanism in place that allows moving the playfield between the two positions? I appreciate your guidance. Thanks.

Thanks Michael! Ya know, I think it really is personal preference and I can see both ways being good. I still think it looks better lowered down with a matrix. It would be cool to have it changeable to lowered or not with an actuator.....I should look into this. I also find whatever you pick, when you're playing it doesn't really matter as you're focused on the playfield. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!

Great video but it makes me wonder: if I understand correctly your playfield monitor rests on the crossbarr that will hold your solinoids. Will this constant smashing of these solinoids not have impact on the monitor because of the constant vibrations the solinoids will give it through the mount.

Will most older tables work with the new vpx 10.8 and pov settings or will we have some old tables that are looking flat this way when ran in 10.7? Can you turn off the pov settings for 10.8 and make it look like the old way if you make the monitor lower? I think I'll be stuck at this decision for a while. I like the way the sunk in monitors look under the glass, feels less fake looking than flush ones when walking by them.

Yes you can do whatever you want for each table. You set your normal vpx to what ever you feel is stable and then for tables that need or you want to be run with a different vpx version, you just use an alternative launcher. Hi Emil!!! Question. On vpin tables like The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle where there is the original 4:1 DMD image, with what do you use to fill the rest of the screen on a 15.6" LCD dmd when using the same format? Right now I just have a black background behind the 4:1 image but it doesn't look right.

If you were given the choice between a LG 42 inch OLED and a LG 48 inch OLED, which would you choose. I am on the fence between the two. some enthusiast say the 48 because of it more closely replicates the real ball size and play field. But doesn’t that mean a wider cabinet which may be awkward for flipper buttons?

I'm pretty sure a 42" is closer to the real size than a 48" but it really depends on the cabinet you have or are going to make. My ultra wide budget cab will fit a 48" but that wouldn't fit in my big budget widebody unless you did some serious routering and maybe not even then. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!

You made a decision to mount the playfield nearly flush with the glass and at the same angle, where as a lot of people recommend that you tilt the monitor and recess it. with the screen so close to the glass in your setup, will there be a lot of reflections from the LED strips off the playfield glass? will you be using a channel w/ a colored lens to reduce the brightness/glare. I LOVE the idea of using a full matrix display in my cabinet, but there won't be room with my 48" screen unless i recess it. tough decisions for me ahead. Oh, and another awesome video. thx.

Recessing the monitor was the recommendation before POV came along. The general consensus now is that flush is the way to go.

@@MegaDeKay i was thinking that maybe if you only play VPX tables, that would be the way to go, but if you play future pinball and pinball fx tables, maybe having it set down w/ sidewalls is still prefered? i'm sure i will play around with my setup as i build.

Not sure about that bottom bracket, seems like the stick can slide out, a cup shape would've been nice so the stick cannot move backwards. If you're working in the cabinet and knock that stick the monitor will come smashing down.

Yeah I was a little worried about that but I looked at it and tried to move it and it seems pretty good. I couldn't sand an angle to make it even harder to come out or even weld up a lip to absolutely prevent it from falling out too. Lot's of different ways to do it. I notice a few commercial sellers go for 48” oled screens. Do you think that 42” is the best to go for?

A 42" fits this widebody cab without any modifications so for people who don't want to modify anything, yes. A 48" is starting to be too big but if you have an ultra wide like my budget build, it'll fit great. In fact I will be upgrading to that in the future in my budget build vpin. Ideally you want to stick to a standard or widebody sized screen but you have to use the sizes of screens they make. So a 42"-48" will work. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!

@@wayofthewrench Ah ok. I have already built mine with a 42" C2 and it is awesome. I'd have to do some serious modifications to fit a 48". My thoughts are that it would make a lot of tables, (standard body tables) look way too big. The ball would look too enlarged. However I feel a 48" would suit widebody tables like GnR and Twilight zone? As I find the ball look a little small on a 42" due to having to shrink the table to fit the width.
