One is ridiculously expensive in comparison while still having a lower per eye resolution, meaning the screendoor effect is more pronounced and the other is not out yet (soon). The only thing the index has going for it, is the controller and higher refresh rate. And keep in mind, they are BOTH tethered to a machine. You can't just walk out of the room and start playing VR in your living room or something. At least, not without buying an add on that cost as much as a Quest 2.

Actually the oculus quest 2 comes with a lot of risks. 1st being that even if you use a legit facebook account if the mods think your fake they disable your account and your oculus quest 2 is just a paper weight after that. One time someone said that they gave them proof with his id and everything but they still banned him. Oh and did I also mention they are lowering resolution on games? And if you are wondering if I was one of them who got banned and even showed my Id to them yes I was one of them. So i say you should wait to get a new one

Not a single word about a required Facebook account and data mining on said account whilst using the headset, Oh and If you happen to not like Facebook anymore and delete your account, enjoy your Dead $299 paperweight. This is leading the industry in a terrible direction and everyone should take a really good look about selling there data online before considering a company that supports this business model. ok, youre commenting from a google account, which is already mining your data and being used to sell you products, and has been for years whilst youve used the youtube platform. the reality is that the facebook account requirement for the quest 2 platform is no less invasive than the google account requirement for android or the microsoft account requirement for windows. It's just how things are these days, everything will have you create an account to collect your data and use it or sell it on. Austin is in no way dishonest for not mentioning the account requirement, in the same way he is not dishonest for not mentioning account requirements for any android phone. This is an all in one device, unlike most other HMDs, and therefore you install software directly onto the device, through its own internet connection, meaning they are obviously going to have some form of account system in place. What it comes down to is if you really value your data, you wouldnt be commenting on here, nor would you have a google account. Nowadays its just unavoidable if you want to use the latest platforms, and its not specific to VR, but is widespread within the tech industry. You are the product no matter what, going forward.

And a company that is going to be tracking your every possible movement, down to how your eye position, the photos and exact layout of your home. What items you own inside that space. What ever is experienced in VR will now be tracked and used as data. That's a very different ball game. At any point I can request Google to remove all personal information they have on me be deleted as per EU regulations. You can not do this with a VR headset. And if you don't want an account you will have a paperweight... I can make a fake account with Google and use every feature. You will be banned if you do this will the quest. As for the phone argument A phone is still a phone without a Google account. You don't need it to use it or even search the web. And if you ever want to remove the account you don't lose the device. That is my argument as why Austin not mentioning it is dishonest. Noone should spend their money on potential E-waste if they are not informed before the purchase. It should be a mandatory statement on a PAID review.

For someone who owns this headset I can say that it is very worth it. If you do own a powerful PC I would recommend a PC vr headset like the oculus rift or the valve index but if you don’t then this is perfect for you

the quest is really the best way for most people, and the only way for many. considering that for a competent rift or vive experience i would have to drop roughly $1000 and dedicate a whole room to VR stuff, the quest is the only way for me.

I've owned a mixed reality headset and have used the Vive and other traditional VR headset on numerous occasions and I completely agree, the quest 2 is the best VR headset for most people. I've enjoyed it far more than any other headset I've tried. With applications like virtual desktop, you can enjoy PC VR wirelessly. I always hated the idea of feeling I needed a dedicated room to play VR games and the questline has completely changed that. Not to mention, the picture quality is better than any headset I've used. I'm well aware of headsets like the reverb G2 with a crazy resolution, but when there are options like the quest 2 for a lower price . . . the quest 2 is the obvious winner in my book.

I've been interested in VR for years now and this is the first time I'm genuinely considering getting one. Because up until quest 1 nearly all VR headsets weren't worth their price tags. Additionally the fact you don't need a PC to run any games also makes it more of a standalone thing rather than something you have to have a PC for. I agree with Austin I think this is finally where VR has gotten good. Sure maybe the tech was good since 2016 but you weren't finding VR this accessible at this price range back then.

Rift s is a minor improvement over the rift and it is in no way exceptional. The hp headset isn’t even out yet neither is the decagear and it sounds pretty unrealistic, so what are you even talking about with those two?
