VR WIP UPDATE IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz/Desert Wings Tobruk

Hi All,
We are exited to release out first VR WIP update.
We hope our community enjoys with this update as we are to present it to you.
We will be introducing a number of great features that will not only make the VR experience enjoyable, but also very immersive for the player/
As always, we are keen to hear the thoughts of out community as we move ever closer to VR Beta testing!
Extra information now covered in the video:
VR is now working in both cockpit and external views.
Players will have unlimited motion outside of the aircraft, enabling them to complete visual inspections of before take off and after landing. This will be optional.
Spiral tracers effects are perfect. Smoke from self-destructing shells give a really good 3D perspective when passing through them.
With VR distance immersion, the Tobruk desert map really get its whole dimension.
We are halfway through the implementation of mini map, info windows and UI screens in the VR display.

I bought Cliffs of Dover Blitz long ago, but hardly ever played it as I am hooked on VR. I just bought Tobruk and can't wait to play these in VR.

Brilliant! I’ve been waiting for this since your chaps first resurrected CloD. Loving the rotation feature too! I’m surprised more sims don’t offer that - I know a few VR old timers who could use this feature

Thanks Phillip. Vr, when released will be part of a broader visual update, which will include 4k aircraft and terrain. No date set at this time, but progress across the board is going very well.

very nice and promissing. I just hope the cramped cockpit feature is not as limiting as in Il2BoX where you cant even go closer to instruments or to your knee positon.. very horrible feel (you can with TrackIR of course loool).

Of course you can lean forward in il2 in vr and get closer to the instruments.

I will have one hella headache with non linear VR movement, i'd rather you leave it linear and checking six will be hard as it was IRL, VR users will be at a disatvantage when fighting Trackir users but it is what it is

I'm tired of being at a disadvantage to TrackIR users, especially when it comes to spotting. If I spend my money on an expensive joystick I expect to have an advantage over a Logitech 3D Pro user, if buy a VR headset I godamn better have an advantage over 2D users.

I'd be very appreciative if you could turn on or off the cockpit restraints from server to server, personally it makes me quite ill in IL-2 Great Battles when I accidentally bump against the class or the seat of the plane and the entire plane just follows me.

Best thing would be for the screen to go black if you stick your head outside of the cockpit. That keeps realism without adding motion sickness.

@@IdahoBookworm yes and no, if the screen suddenly goes black can also cause motion sickness, especially since your brain knows that you're moving, and thinks you're going forwards, so suddenly losing one of those directions can be incredibly disorienting. Besides I think most people who fly in VR want to stay within the confines of the cockpit and try to keep their head within it.

“Rotation amplification” is something most users will be used to, seeing as they’ve probably been using TrackIR for the last decade waiting for the day VR could get to this point.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but have you considered putting in a “thunk” sound that plays when the view is limited by the canopy? I’m just trying to think of ways to avoid the nauseating effect of keeping moving your head but the view suddenly stopping moving…

It's not really an issue. I've been flying in VR and IL-2 GB does the head stopping effect, and it's only annoying, never nausea inducing

I actually mentioned it because of my experience in IL-2 GB - I suppose we are all different! I’m thinking like the haptic feedback in the hand controllers when you put your hand inside something in some of these games, obviously we can’t do haptic feedback for the headset but a sound might do the trick?

I have seen the tutorial for the setup wizard, but can you do one for an xboxcontroller so i hopefully get a better setup. Seems like i can't do the same setup as in WT

Wow, this might get me to reinstall this promising game. Can I ask what kind of performance (average fps) I can expect on a Reverb G2, RTX3090 and 11900K? In DCS I'm lucky to maintain 45fps, which is half the refresh rate, and thus forces reprojection artefacts.

"Movement limited by canopy" ?! what? This is actualy bad idea, cause You dont have phisical limitation in VR that will stop Your head from moving. Feeling is wierd and it feels like broken tracking. Just give it as an option PLEASEEEEEEE in BOX there is something like this and its weird

A group of enthusiasts putting to shame the devs from every possible flight sim by focusing on VR improvements. So, it was always possible to get QoL improvements for VR but we hardly ever see these because apparently dev time is better spent creating content in order to boost profits.
