Hi Hugh. I'm curious about the 180 VR format. I currently produce 360 Videos in both Equirectangular Monoscopic and Stereoscopic (Top and Bottom) 3D. I'm currently only able to get RAW footage in these formats. Is it possible to crop 360 footage? Or is 180 a whole different ball-game
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
OMG!!! BIG FAN BTW!! Throw the fangirl moment out of the way and to answer your question - You can absolutely convert VR360 into VR180 - as long as your 360 is stereo top and bottom. But you need to pan and edit your video to make sure all your subject stay in the 180 or you need to do post pan. If you send me one of your clip - I am more than happy to create a tutorial on how to convert VR360 into VR180 video :)

can i ask. Is 3D VR dead? Asking as all i see is 360 2D vidros around. There is no 3D VR 180 camers in the market either. Vuze and insta have both discontinued their 3d cameras
@hughhou2 жыл бұрын
Insta360 does not discontinue their 3D camera. I use it everyday and I push out lots of 3D 360 content that get averaged 100K+ views.

How do you create vignettes on the sides to hide the lenses themselves?
@hughhou4 ай бұрын
I still have not made that tutorial after so many years. Not many folks ask such technical question. But I should make a tutorial soon!
@drisommer64274 ай бұрын
@@hughhou that would be beyond helpful!! Again, thank you so much for all the insanely informative content you put out - you sure have made my life easier in post production. Next time, I will for sure be inquiring about collaborating and hiring you :)

Hey Hugh, your post snapshot image used for this episode shows two Lumix cameras with lenses. Could you tell me what lenses and did you put out an episode discussing this setup or can you tell me how well this worked out bottom to bottom arrangement? As mentioned, I have done the same thing with two GX7s with great effect, but side to side instead of bottom to bottom because the Meinke lenses do not provide a full half-spherical output. More like 220H/175V degrees which I was willing to give up in the vertical. Also, the GX7 shoots 4K in standard camera modes eg 4:3 which is why this works. Does the Lumix camera you are using have similar mode and do you get full half-spherical frame? Also, can you message me or email me to discuss something outside this channel? I have a project I put aside that I should have discussed collaboration with you on earlier on, but frankly until the Canon 180 camera system came out, I am not sure if there was a camera system that could done what I wanted. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I have spent about 10 hours trying to figure out how to crop my VR180 videos and export to anaglyph. I know I lose the VR experience, but it would be great to be able to share the anaglyph videos on a TV with family without all the distortion. Any tips??

Hey Hugh, have you try stitching insta360 pro as 180? so we don't need to buy a new vr180 camera
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
Nope! It works for Insta360 Pro as well and it actually looks pretty good.

I tried to put in text in Adobe Premiere and used BCC VR insert but for some reason it doesn't show the text. Am I doing something wrong or does it only function on a png-file?
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
I should function on all files type. Did you follow the tutorial step by step and pick the right setting?
@akerstromproduction86096 жыл бұрын
Yes, it functions perfectly when I do it with a logo in png-format, but when I do the same with a text in Premiere it doesn't show the text.
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
Mmmm... try to do the text in After Effects and render out as movie?

Well done Hugh, fantastic overview... I've used similar free vr180 meta injector tool and they work well.
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
Yes the SMII free meta injector works as well. I am just skeptical when using a free tool. At least I validate my upload with Google engineers and they told me mine is correct. Future proof it.

Glad I can help. I have been looking this as well. Lucky I got couple mentors show me their ways. Now I am just sharing what I learn from them.

Hi Hugh, I just wanted to say how fantastically informative your videos are, I've learned a lot from them, keep up the great work. Now for a quick question!!.... I'm creating a VR video that was shot on the Insta 360 EVO 5.7k and I'm rendering a VR 180 3DLR side-by-side output in the latest version of Premiere....however, the videos don't look great in quality even when I render out H265 @ 60bit, it's an unpaid job so I don't really have much budget for plugins but would love to know if there is any way that I could upres the original footage (maybe AI software?)or improve the output by sharpening using a free or paid plugin (if its not too expensive)?, or could I adjust the headset (meta quest 2) via visbit or something similar to maximize the quality?. I'm assuming that shooting on EVO and watching on Quest 2 should look good, if you have a sample video that would be great also....Any help would be amazing, thanks.

The problem is not in your source footage, it is in LATEST premiere H265 render issue. I think some influencers suggest always render in H265 - which is completely wrong and please don't listen to those advices (the space is full of bad advices). You will need to see your actual footage and content. If you move a lot with the camera, or you capture fast action scene with ton of details (like forest), H265 is a bad codec to go. Just use H264 with 80mbps (just hit Quest 2 limit) will give you a better result. Try that first and compare. And then figure out a way to improve your source video quality. Using Resolve Fusion to denoise and sharpen will give you better result no plugins. Resolve 2x or even 4x AI upscale in 18.5 also super good. You don't need paid plugin and it is built inside Resolve. Then render out as ProRes back to Premeire for further editing.

Hey! Thanks so much for this great tutorial. If I'm using Premiere + BorisFX Continuum on Mac OS X, is there a workaround for me to inject the metadata, or does a workflow for editing VR180 on Mac not exist yet?
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
Actually, this tutorial does not matter what system you use. I use PC here just b/c my setup. But both Premiere and Continuum work in Mac. Also if you use FCPX, BroisFX Continuum is multihost application so it will work on FCPX. And Mistika VR (the final piece for meta injection) is also Mac and PC. So everything should work both in Mac and PC.
@PaulGaleComedy6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response, Hugh! The free alternative to Mistika also OS X too? $50/month is too much for me to justify right now. Also, do you have experience with the Lenovo Mirage Camera? Having really bad audio lag issues with the raw file during playback on computer and Oculus Go (between 0-1.5 seconds it seems)
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
No I pre-order it and they mess up my order and I still do not have my camera and I was so pissed with the customer service and prob gonna cancel my order and give them a big thumb down as a company even I am Chinese!! Support is also horrible at least in US. Also as my other review tutorial, if you are serious about VR180 - Yi Horizon or Mirage will not be enough. The resolution is too low - even 6K from Z Cam K1pro in cropped KZbin view is not enough resolution.

Hey Hugh ! Your video on VR 180 is great ! I want to ask you I am planning shooting an 180 VR project and the delivery and projection will take place both in cinema and also of course in the headset. For the cinema screening can i convert the 180 to 2-D and also use the anaglyph as a 3-D to enchance the experience ?. I know that I could shoot 2-d and not 180 but I want to use it for two different purposes. Projection in the headset and potentially in the big screen as a 2-D any ideas on how I can achieve that. Thanks a lot !
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
I think you can. But I have no experience on that and you will need a really high end VR180 rig - like what you see on robert regigaoze the limit vr - RED and Entaniya HAL 250 - thank the GH5 setup but with RED instead.

Hey Hugh, nice work! What PremierePro export settings are you using for GoPro Fusion 5k sequences?
@hughhou6 жыл бұрын
Match sources (so it can go up to the new GoPro 5.2K which is 51xx something), and then use DNxHR as I state in this video - basically use this video render setting. Then directly upload to KZbin and let KZbin to the transcoding for you. Since it is only 5.2K, you should be able to upload up to 10 min to KZbin no problem. But if you need to go over 10 mintues and it is a big files, use h265 state in this video - just match source to 5.2K instead of 8K: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWiaYWl7rrOHn9U
