It’s very rare anybody willing takes a demotion in the same organization. It’s rarer that the organization will let someone take a demotion. But then, I was very wrong about Belichick taking a college job, so who knows?

The argument that Mayo should have been able to get his own guys is silly. He had no guys. He was a positions coach. Covington was "his guy" but he had no experience with hiring or the offense. He was involved in all the OC interviews too. He had no connections.

@supergoku355 yup and even if he got to do all the interviews and pick the guys he liked best, it clearly wasn't big on football anyways, and most of those coaches won't take the job, because they were all more qualified for the positions than Mayo was!

Ben Johnson has coaching experience and is an OC there a big difference than just starting out as a position coach. Of course Bill wanted Tom Brady back we had no one else. Why do you think he signed Cam Newton. Kraft sticking his nose in on football decisions is a problem. If you’re going to let Tom walk then you tell Bill 2/3 years before to be prepared. That’s huge in keeping the ship afloat. Bill always wants to 2 steps ahead rather than being 3 steps behind, and that’s exactly what Kraft did. Bill didn’t want Mac Jones either

Don't forget Brady, would actually take pay cuts, to allow more money for players to resign or sign. Montana / Walsh - Brady / Belichick, etc. Shit, Belichick / Brady should have won 8 not 6 titles without the Giants screw ups! If you look back, Belichick came from coaching lameness in Cleveland, and inherited a decent Patriots team already when he signed. Bledsoe, and the Pats were in the super bowl against Green Bay prior to Belichick arriving once.

@@BaronVonMunch Brady, was incredible already in his first season taking over for Bledsoe. Consistent, moved the chains and scored with really lame receivers. Thus, title number one - and the Patriot way is established with a GOAT qb. Been a fan since 85 cupcake.
