That is brilliant! It's hard to think it's a fan film because for one, the animation is a lot like from Bionicle: The Game, only even more true to the sets. Pohatu and Kopaka's personalities were spot on, Pohatu's comic relief bits were very well written, Kopaka's cold personality but secret warm side were executed brilliantly, the Krana blood was really well done, the Bohrok Va was adorable, Kopeke was amazing. But the best of all: the fighting. That was truly how Toa fight, not just with brawn but also with their elemental and mask powers, manipulating the environment to their advantage. That made me feel right back at home in Mata Nui. Bravo!

There is nothing i dont absolutely love about this short, to me its as perfect as they come - it holds up super well with age and the character work is AMAZING! Im in love with Pohatu's expressiveness, the way you morphed his mouth so he could grin despite really not being built for it is so endearing, and how he just manually readjusts his spine is such a neat thing to include?? Like of COURSE the toa would do that since they can, itd be like cracking knuckles to them! I wish i could replicate that in real life, I bet my back wouldnt hurt so bad, lol... Kopaka is also characterized really well, somewhat haughty and prideful but also very kind and also a bit silly sometimes - him trying to shrug off his bag only for it to get caught in his shield made me chuckle The dynamic between Pohatu and Kopaka is also just, chef's kiss. So perfect. Thats what theyre all about baby!! A goofy lad and his bestest pal in the world who is just so tired but loves him so much!! Theres so many things to love about them (Kopaka just leaving his brother face down in the snow, Pohatu's attempt at showing off getting obliterated by Kopaka's efficiency, Kopaka constantly interrupting his own fight to help him, Pohatu chastising him for interrupting him while he needs to focus) but my absolute favorite part has to be the semi-final scene, when theyve finally collected the kraana - every little bit of Kopaka's softness showing through, from his offer to help Pohatu to the fist bump to the WINK (how did you even come up with that!!! its so cute and his immediate embarrassment is so funny!!!) and then him coming back to steady Pohatu so they can both speed away... It makes me absolutely giddy. Look at them. Theyre best friends.

Best. Bionicle. Fan film. Ever... We really need more films like this that involve the classic Bionicles. Who cares if there's violence?? They're robots! Who cares that it wasn't super high definition?? It doesn't matter much if you can see what's happening. Bro, you are going places. That was amazing. I'd love to see more films like this from you. Loved the comedy, the power, and the violence. This is a masterpiece. Voice actors would've been nice, but I understand that's difficult to do unless you have really expensive recording equipment. Have you ever considered animating the classic Bionicle comics? Not to be frame by frame identical, but to tell the story? Dude, if you could pull that off... You'd be a legend. You already are one in my book though. I'm probs gonna watch this ten times a month. XD

Your knowledge of the lore is impressive as well, and you weren't afraid to take it in a few personal directions.

+Vrahno Your representations of the characters was spot on too. When I write Kopaka, I'm always concerned about balancing his serious nature with his underlying emotions. Honestly, this kind of thing is exactly what Gen 1 Bionicle fans have been hoping for years. I'd pay legit money to see this fully produced, but I doubt LEGO would permit it. After all, they gotta make sure to bury years of hard work and deep lore with watered down bullshit.

Wow, this is a great fan made project. This was really fun to watch and makes a great story to remind me of the good old days when BIONICLE began. I'm glad you made the voices mute and used subtitles. This made me feel more like the Toa and Bohrok were robots. I wasn't too sure on the Bohrok lines "Clean All, Everything Must Be Cleaned!" It's good they sound like something a robot would say, but I always thought of the Bohrok as mindless beasts like the Rakshi where they just have a monstrous voice to make them sound evil. It's good I could see a small amount of facial expression and body movement that makes the toa a bit human, not too much which is great. And LOL to the big tear drop that shows Pohatu was shocked. That was really clever of you to make Kopaka freeze it and drop to the floor. That's a great way to break the 4th Wall. The ending was a chuckle too :D Seeing Kopeke return to find the statue head. I know this project took 2 years for you, but Oh My Word I would watch this as a Television Series in this quality! A huge round of applause to you my friend! :)

Fred Jones Not sure where one would draw the line. I mean the Glatorian/Agori better suit the term "cyborgs" since they were originally organic and gained mechanical implants, while inhabitants of the Matoran Universe are built as machines with organic parts. Like a...reverse-cyborg, I guess. Tulf42 The Bohrok's lines were actually quite accurate. They're obsessed with their job of cleaning it all.
@Tulf4210 жыл бұрын
Fred Jones They're not Cyborgs, they're Bio-Mechanical beings so mostly robot I'd say...

Damian Freeman I'm guessing the cleaning thing is established in the comics that I haven't read ^^; It's good to know I don't know all the facts of Bionicle after being with them for all 10 years
@MrJoeyWheeler10 жыл бұрын
Tulf42 Indeed. Even I don't know a lot, although most of what I don't know consists of side-stories and organisations I never paid much attention to, like the Order of Mata Nui or the Nynrah Ghosts. I'm actually thinking back, and I can't remember if the Bohrok ever said anything to themselves, but I do know that they could speak through Lewa when he was taken over temporarily. And their mission is to clean, since the whole point is that Mata Nui the island is formed as camoflage whenever the Matoran Universe lands and hides on a planet. When it prepares to take off, the Bohrok clear the island of any life (using Krana to take over the minds of intruders) and return to the nest. It's actually kinda funny because near the end of the story, the Toa Nuva awaken the Bohrok and freed the Bahrag and helped them clear the island.

This is an amazing bit of animation here. I really like how close to the sets all the characters were, and the bits you changed were good too, especially with the Toa heads and such. The fight scenes, while a little slow at times, were still excellent, and some great usage of the Kanohi and Krana powers. Further more, the story perfectly captures the feel, for me anyway, of the 2002 saga and the Toa's personalities. Very well done!

Absolutely amazing, the sheer amount of nostalgia is almost overwhelming! The animation is perfect and the atmosphere is just like in 2002! Love it. You captured Kopaka and Pohatu well. I wish the masks were more like in MoL but thats just a nitpick cause I see the Kanohi would work that way. Beyond that this is well animated and I love the use of Stone power for Pohatu with the hand thing.

I love this so much there's so much style and charisma present I love how the Toa are still slightly childish since really they're so young and new to the Toa business. A prime example of not needing state of the art visual effects (no offence🤪) to make a fun and fulfilling animation. This very easily could have come from a mid 2000s Nickelodeon show or something. I also appreciate that they don't use voices but still hold a dialogue and utilising musical cues, an interesting stylistic choice, kinda reminds me of silent films or cartoons

I think you did a wonderful job, a good effort in the details, and I loved how you utilized the tools, and bohrok functions in so many different ways, also, the way you had the claw suspend the bohrok, I thought that he was going to coax into droping, and grab it quickly, but the fact that you made him kick it instead was perfect. over all, you captured the personalitys very well, kopaka might prefer to be a loner, but he is a good hero with a good soul, he appreciates others, and I would think that after reading the first book, that him and pohatu may have the closest relationship, so this was very fitting, and lastly, the bohrok, the term clean everything made since, many people look at the bohrok and think they were just another villan out to get the toa, but what made the bohrok so specail (and my personal favorite "villan") is that they never intended to defeat the toa, the intended to destroy their resources, the Va would revive any downed bohrok, they really just covered all their bases. (sorry for the spelling) But, as an aviod collector and 2001-2005 ish lore "keeper" I'd say, you have cemented a place in my mind. very well done.

So this has been popping up in my recommended feed for a while and finally got around to watching it. I'm regretting that it took so long; this was great. Like some others have said, the fights were a little ... "floaty" is the best word I saw used to describe it, but that's a minor flaw. The characterizations, the animations, the callbacks to other Bionicle media and stories (loved when Pohatu moon-walked on the ice like in his official intro animation!) and the sound design were spot on. I especially liked how well you handled Pohatu's inexperience with the ice, like at the 6:30 mark. That made me literally laugh out loud at how goofy but believably in-character it was. Most of the humor actually was like that; kinda goofy but in character for Kopaka and Pohatu not to mention fitting well with the general tone of the early 2001-2002 Bionicle stories. I'm going to have to subscribe so I can come back later and check out your other work.

In the description you talk about how your PC isn't powerful enough for you to use your full animation/editing potential. Seeing as this video already looks amazing for something done by only one person I can't imagine how good it would have looked if you highly upgraded your PC's internals.

Great job on the animations, and humor in the story with Kopaka and Pohatu. Also your design closely resembles the old bionicle animation designs. That's pretty cool as well!

dude, awesome movie. so much better than the Mask of Light. funny, beautifully animated, gorgeous aesthetic and the story telling was fluid. Fight choreographing was top notch, I cannot give this enough praise. I am an animation graduate, so i know how this stuff is done, i will be honest, this in comparison to me has put me to shame :) I know how hard it is to animate even a minute of animation (my primary focus was in Stop Motion XD) but i would have loved a feature length movie of this. I'd buy a copy XD and i would contribute to the gofundme or whatever crowd funding websites are still being used XD In a 17 minute time frame you managed to fit in the right amount of everything. Fighting, story telling, exposition, banter, character personality. This is the perfect example of "Show dont Tell" (Showing what is happened not explaining what is happening XD) you did this in spades. The only exposition given is what was necessary in character communication. not directed to the audience. You effectively demonstrated the Bohrok Hordes, Kohrok's personality, Krana ability. My favourite bit? Start to End really. but if i had to pick, it would be when Pohatu was using process of elimination to find the Sheilding Krana. All in all, this is a perfect example of "What is hollywood doing?" they have billions of dollars in funding and they end up with content at a fraction of this quality. Like i always say to friends and family: "Hollywood has a budget of billions, youtubers sometimes have no budget, but quality shows where it needs to" I am going to be watching this regularly, its just too good. well done on making something brilliant here dude :)

Utterly fantastic! Both of their personalities shine brilliantly, the face Pohatu makes when Kopaka slays the Kohrak Vah was perfect, Kopaka not being used to a mask with both of the eyes is priceless. This was so well done!

Great work, but I found the fight sequences to be a little too floaty and slow. I switched the speed to 1.25 and I think they look a bit better at that speed.
@thecianinator9 жыл бұрын
+Minigun101 Yeah if the character movements were faster and they had maybe twice as many shots showing it from different angles, it would have been more actiony, but man was this good anyway.

Incredible work! I love how well the powers were used here, elemental and mask powers alike. It was done in a creative way that reminded me of Last Airbender(the show), and that the movies never really came close to(as much as I love them) would love to see more of these for sure. Also:Kopakas FATALITY on that Kohrok was the best thing ever! 😂

@starscreamofvos10 жыл бұрын
Actually, if you read the online serials and even some of the books, it says how a toa or matoran or any other character would "curse" when something annoying or bad happened. Greg Farshtey never wrote down the actual words because he would have gotten in trouble for that, but, he made the BIONICLE universe as "adult" as he could get away with. I know one specific incident is from the online serial, "Brothers in Arms" where Mazeka was fighting Vultraz in a flashback and he kicked Vultraz off a cliff and thought he had died, and then it says that he "cursed out loud" before walking away. He was mad about having to kill Vultraz and made his feelings known through his langauge. Besides, adding the curse words makes it better because we all know that Kopaka has a "potty mouth." ;)

The only suggestion I have would be in future videos, either add the character's name before their line in the subtitles or color coordinate it to them. Other than that, this was amazing.

This is spot on in the tone of the MNOG. I'm really happy to see the story focused on the best broship in the series, and during the 2002 story. I don't know how I missed this before but I'm glad I finally saw this. I think the effects chosen are perfect, especially the mask changes. Humor was fun, and as a short film it was a nice little side story. Sure, the pacing was funny, but it didn't take away from what seems like a real labor of love. As always, I continue to look forward to whatever you put out.
