Arch Viz Camp you're doing a great job then. I've switched my workflow from sketchup to 3ds max (mental ray) to just sketchup with vray...the sketchup setup is definitely not as in depth as the vray max setup...however. it does allow for faster revisions to be made without migrating the changes each time they come...and at our studio they come so often... however after seeing your videos I will definitely dabble with 3ds max/vray...the real time engine preview is much more fluid... do you have a particular workflow from sketchup to max? check out my work... www.blakechamberlain.net like to hear your thoughts! keep the videos coming! cheers

Hi! your video is very clear and I followed every step. I don't know why but my sky looks very dark when rendered. It worked fine earlier until now after I create a new Vray Dome Light the sky is dark no matter what HDRI I use. The rest of the scene is well lit by my Vray sun and it looks fine in the camera view.

I've got a little bit of a background in photography and I've found that an aperture of 5.6 , shutter speed of 1/sec & 1/30.0, and an ISO setting of 100.0 produces a good image and is a camera setting that you might use for the type of lighting scenario you're using.

at 4.17 you say "don't worry about the blown up sky we will deal with it later on." but you never mention it again. how do you deal with overblown skies when you need the extra light? or just use a vray sphere light or sun to illuminate the scene?
@archvizcamp10 жыл бұрын
Hi, at the end of the tutorial I talked about replacing the sky image in Photoshop, using the alpha channel. So you can use the HDRI only for lighting your model, and add your sky in post production.
@archvizcamp10 жыл бұрын
Niels van Haandel one way to deal with that, is to render your animation with an alpha channel sequence (so you will get an alpha for every frame), and use it as a mask to control the sky exposure in after effect or any other post software.
@ArcSGiwa10 жыл бұрын
you can simply make your vray light(loaded with hdri map) invisible and load same hdri into ur environment slot( rendering>>>>environment>>>(check use map}). for good lighting control, link your vray light map to the vray light using wire parameter.

Arch Viz Camp does this rotation of the environment then also control the rotation of the dome? im using vray for sketchup and the two are completely independent...of course I cant a background HDRI environment preview without using the REALTIME render engine to preview sun properties... I have a related question... I mapped an HDRI dome light and the render is beautiful. worked great...however...the dark horizon line across the glass frustrates me...is there a way to eliminate this? I feel like I should just be able to lower the vertical position of the HDRI...I tried making it a 'spherical' dome light, mirroring the horizontal. nothing... this may be hard to answer seeing as how im using Sketchup but VRAY for sketchup and 3ds max are pretty much the same...I find SU to be a watered down version of VRAY for 3dsmax... any help would be greatly appreciated.
@VAGR4NT-9 жыл бұрын
Blake Chamberlain yes the dome light also rotates because you are rotating the original map itself under it's options. not the environment. and your second question regarding the dark line is something that also frustrates me. I have no clue how to move the map vertically. under dome modifier you can scroll down and click full sphere dome something like that and it will render the full image without creating the dark bottom portion. but then you might see grass or trees in say a city like chicago. What I do is I just try to use a different HDRI and some will not show that dark horizontal based on my perspective.
@juanmilanese9 жыл бұрын
Blake Chamberlain Blake Chamberlain yeah, full sphere mapping in the vray light dome options. Also the other day I foud that the vray hdri map (not the common 3DS max one) has an option that goes something like "project ground plane" it produced some weird floor in my project but maybe is that what you're needing for your project. sry for english.

You dont need to change the hdri scale, I never do so. You can either hide the trees/houses in the hdri with objects such as 3d trees and houses or with a background plan with different panorama view with alpha mask to hide its own sky. Also you can lower the position of the hdri image inside the bitmap parameters. Make any sense? :)
