Fantastic video and commentary. I loved every second of this video. I have both the Traxxas TRX-4 Defender and the Axial SCX10 II. The Traxxas is nice to look at and it has some trick stuff under the body. But my Axial SCX10 II was my first scale crawler and in all honesty i'd chose it over the Traxxas.

Good comparison! Personally I love the trx4. I always get the feeling a lot of people don’t like it because it’s so good if that makes sense! They don’t like the fact the trx4 is much better than the rest! Like the scx10 fan boys get all upset! Trx4 all the way

i like all the tech put into the trx4. it has the designs i expect for the money. if set up correctly i think it would always be the top contender if not the winner. at the end of the day its really all about having fun and i see the trx4 being the funnest of the bunch.
@Vbluguitar5 жыл бұрын
I have both a Vaterra and the TXR4 defender. While the defender is a better crawler technically, my Vaterra has been much more durable. I use the Vaterra 3x as much as the TRX4, and the Vaterra has never had a part go bad, but the TRX4 has had to have over 100 bucks in replacement parts (mostly servos going bad). I do love the way the TRX4 looks like a real rig rolling because its so heavy, but the repairs have been frustrating. Especially considering it was almost 100 bucks more than my Ascender.
@Billy_Darley5 жыл бұрын
@@Vbluguitar so unless youre talking ratios, its cheaper to fix than the real thing? although its been argued the real land rover will cost a quarter of its value to repair over time. lol

Had my TRX4 for almost 12 months. The tech is a downside. Esc failed, receiver failed. Fitted a Quicrun 1060 and use a cheap Hobbyking tx/rx. Upgraded the steering servo. Landrover shell can be lightened by removing the jack, can and spare wheel, plus the upper part of the roof rack. I 3D printed narrow bumpers to improve the angle of attack etc. Couldn't then use the Traxxas tx etc, so all of the tech was useless. Installed TRX4 Sport diff lockers, and removed the servo's. Used a tie wrap to hold the high/low servo in low gear. Fitted front portal weights. Shell was still a liability so I fitted the Proline F150 Raptor shell. At the end of the day the shell, diffs, steering servo, diff servo's, tx and rx are in the parts bin, and the esc and rx are junk, all of which I paid for when I bought the truck. It's now a great crawler, but not as good as my MST CFX W, and only marginally better than my Axial. Bought heavier alloy beadlocks which help. The stock TRX foams disintegrate rapidly, so new aftermarket ones are on their way, the Canyon Trails are pretty good though. The TRX is expensive and the electronics failures are commonplace, the Sport is a much better buy.

Nice comparison, fair enough. Should you do more in the future I have a request: test also the downhill, not only the uphill. Sure these trucks are more designed to climb, but in nature whatever goes up should also goes down. And I think you might discover some unexpected roll over when going down. Thanks :)

On the same subject, the downhill could have also demonstrated each one's Drag Brake, Built into almost all of the ESCs.... Some are adjustable, allowing you to dial it in, some just have on-off. It's nitpicking at this point, this was one EXCELLENT comparison!!

12:23 you talk about not changing any of the settings, and leaving the truck "as is"
@vrcmag5 жыл бұрын
Casey Beaulieu yes the one setting that worked. Why would we unlock the diffs for this?
@vrcmag5 жыл бұрын
@@CaseyBeaulieu We used the technology, that term is open since it's remote locking difs and portal axles. We can't unuse the axles, and we locked the diffs like you would in a medium trail for traction. Opening the center diff isn't going to really help anything. I'm not sure if you want the Axial to win, or what your angle is on this. It was an RTR challenge and if the TRX Sport was out it would have been a better fit for this, but it's what was out.

You should add a gen7 pro to the test. It will come in last. Diff's the size of real pumpkins. Top heavy. Tires are ok but foams are too hard. Bumper mounts are too soft and bend and warp. No turning radius without some modifications. Pins in u-joints bend and wallow out holes, then a high pitched squeal will accompany you on any trail unless replaced, or fall out all together. If to many rollovers occur, the screws on rear of frame holding the body on to hinge will snap resulting in loss of said heavy body. This is a clumsy, high maintenance truck. Motor and electronics are great. But the rest is lacking.

vrcmag I think it’s the way you presented it. It’s scale vs a toy that has unrealistic flex. I have SCX10’s, my Comp Ascender and my TF2 and D90. Yes, it takes some work to make the TF2 equal to the others but in reverse, it takes work to scale out those other rigs. After a few mods and some tuning the TF2 (and D90) turns out to be just as good, if not better than any other crawler out there. 👍🏻 I love the first post of new TF2 owners! It always starts off with “how do I get more flex?” Or “is this normal?” With a photo of the suspension max flexed out on a pencil! 😂😂 keep trucking my friend!
