Great job of teaching people how to damage a pickup when swapping a magnet there. NEVER push a screwdriver through the pigtailed end of a pickup. ALWAYS pull out through the un-taped, open end.

Finally, someone shows how to do it, and correctly. Thx!

Great stuff! I removed the covers on a pair of Sheptone pups the same way as you did, only with a flat-head screwdriver and a hammer instead. I didn't think about melting the bobbins or anything like that, it just seemed like the quickest way to do it. Worked like a charm, and the nineties are indeed very dead! Hahahahaaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Im gonna have to take your approach. Brute force and speed. Usually works best for me too.

Why on earth would anyone chop the leads off of a pickup????

Where'd you get that gauss meter?

Thanks for the demo! I have a question: what could be the issue if I'm trying to do something similar but in a P90 and when I try to push out the pickups, they just won't move at all. What could be causing this?

I have a feeling things aren't going to go that smoothly for me when I do this in a couple of weeks. Just ordered some A2's to replace the A5s lol So, as long as the north face is oriented correctly, it doesn't matter which side of the magnet is facing up, towards the sky?

Where can I get one of those gauss meters? Thanks

I stick the magnet to the one in the humbucker, north stick on south, so I know the direction.

Well, found the model: spin doctor e.r. magnet meter. Where can I buy one? It's so small and smart :)

I’ve read a soldering gun can weaken magnet

A huge heat could degauss a magnet, but using the iron properly you'll be fine. Cheers.

Hey just wanted to ask a question,well I actually put my EMG H4 and H4A both facing each other with one of it upside down when im not using it (now its stick to each other because the of magnet attraction), My question is, will it affect the humbucker in any sort of way?The EMG HZ uses ceramic tho

Thanks. I've done it effortlessly with the help of a hair-dryer.

hi i have a question. I have a 1973 gibson les paul custom with both original t-top humbuckers. Some previous owner had the bridge humbucker magnet reversed (recent compass test shows slugs attract north, screws attract south ) winding is factory original. My question is would this modification have any effect on the tone of the bridge humbucker when its on by itself?
@TheForce_Productions4 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. Usualy when you flip one of the HB's magnets is up to pickups & coil split combinations, just like PRSs does for example, but using that HB without that kind of switchings hasn't any effect in tone. Hope it helps.

Where did you buy gaussmeter? Thank you

I don't recall the exact name of this gaussmeter anymore but IIRC they are no longer manufactured. However, there are many cheap and easy-to-do DIY solutions out on the internet.

@@TheWizzard29 Is it possible to make video on metering different A5 magnets. Is there a difference between them. What are the ways to degauss magnets and how to remagnetize them?
@TheWizzard294 жыл бұрын
@@Stu66orn Re-magnetizing is usually done with neodym magnets. There's an interesting article on the homepage of StewMac, it applies only to single coil rod magnets though. So far I've never tried it with alnico bar magnets. Alnico magnets should have different gauss values by default, even when fully charged, they normally differ in strength, mostly it shouldn't be too dramatic though. De-gaussing is also something I'm very interested in, bigger companies use industrial magnetizing machines, I'm still looking for an affordable alternative.
@Stu66orn4 жыл бұрын
I've tried different magnets in my Suhr Thornbucker+. Must admit that magnet has some effect on the tone for example A2 vs A5 is a clear difference. But many other properties of pickup affect tone quite a bit more. Gauss of magnet would do quite minimal difference I would presume.

@@Stu66orn I'm quite new to guitar pickup winding and still have to try out a few things. But imo all the components should work together, starting from the wire you use, the way you wind it, how much turns you give it, the wiring in the guitar itself etc. And also don't forget to adjust the height of the pickup and the pole screws, it's a very effective and cheap way to change the sound and saved me a lot of times from buying a new pickup.
@Rigel7WasAlreadyUsed2 жыл бұрын
I couldn't get the magnet to move at all, so I just screwed it back together and called it a day. Thankfully I didn't bust it. I've seen this done before, so I guess I just suck.

For those trying to use a compass another video that seems legit claims that although a compass points "north" the earth we live on actually has a southern charged "north pole". If true this might reverse what you think is going on. No working experience on my end, just interjection to consider.
