The 3rd-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions rolled into Madison for the first time since 1970 and improved to 5-0 with a dramatic 23-20 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers.
Behind two Curtis Enis touchdowns (3:03-mark and 3:59-mark), Penn State jumped out to a 17-3 2nd-qtr lead. Wisconsin received a huge boost from true-freshman RB Ron Dayne, and Dayne's first of two touchdowns on the day cut the PSU lead to 17-10 (5:02-mark) before Penn State answered with a Brett Conway FG to take a 20-10 lead into intermission.
After a scoreless 3rd-quarter, Wisconsin turned an interception and more bruising running by Dayne (9:21-mark) into 10 unanswered points to tie the game at 20-20 with 2 minutes remaining (11:18-mark).
Penn State responded in clutch fashion, with strong running by Curtis Enis and a 40-yard bomb from Wally Richardson to Joe Jurevicius (11:43-mark) to set up a 25-yard game-winning FG by Brett Conway.
Mike Samuel was able to maneuver Wisconsin to the Penn State 40-yard line in the closing seconds, giving kicker John Hall a chance to force overtime on the final play - but his 57-yard attempt was off the mark (13:40-mark).
Curtis Enis rushed for 115 yards and 2 touchdown on 28 carries, Wally Richardson completed 17 of 28 passes for 246 yards and wide receiver Joe Jurevicius caught 5 passes for 135 yards. 3-time 1st-teamAll-Big Ten corner Brian Miller intercepted the 12th pass of his career and outside linebacker Aaron Collins rang up 3 sacks.
Ron Dayne rushed 24 times for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns. Donald Hayes caught 9 passes for 66 yards and quarterback Mike Samuel completed 26 of 40 passes for 163 yards, while also rushing 10 times for 35 yards.
