6K miles this summer (2019) 99.1%, 2 up on my V star 1300 (2007 model) and it ran like a mule. We did several 9 hour rides and tons of shorter ones. My girl is about 145 lbs and I'm 200 lbs.I can easily hit 95 and ride all day through upstate NY never feeling underpowered and definitely not maxed out. So my opinion is the 1300 has no issue whatsoever riding 2 up. Keep your wheels aired keep your shock tight. Dont get me wrong I do feel a nicer pull solo when I slam the throttle, but hey this really isnt a "slam the throttle" kind of bike. Enjoy the ride...

Yes indeed, enjoy the ride. This ride was on my factory shock , which is a bit soggy. My progressive shock leaked out n had to put the stock back on. Otherwise it usually does good.

I have 2012 vstar 1300. Been riding for years. Ride 2 up all the time. Plenty of power in reserve if needed. Never had a issue. Cruise 75 mph all day long if needed. Usually don't. Obviously Ride safe. But besides the suspension if anything. Never really bothered me. Never in my opinion. Usually holding gears expect that riding with a passenger is expect for any bike. I agree with your remarks in general. Never a issue for me if someone wants to consider it. Nothing beats a Ride on the road to see if you're comfortable doing so. Great video. I'll continue to ride 2up if o ever need to. Single riding. She's rips. Keeps up Usually with any bikes around here even most Harleys. I'm From Wisconsin. Great video

We are spoiled today. In those thrilling days of yesteryear, we rode two up on RD 350's, CB 500 and 750's. My largest bike was a '76 GL1000. None but the GL had a fairing and all went from from top to bottom of the country. Good times, rain for water and plenty of bug juice for nourishment, About the only thing out there larger was a 74 cu in Harley. Today's 1300 cc should be way more than adequate to handle two up. My 1300 RSV sure can and I'm 250 + lbs.

Yes .. that's why I find it hard to justify the purchase of anything bigger atm. 98% of my riding is 1 up, and the 1300 has been serving good. Granted I don't have 4 cyl like you though, so yours is really smooth from what I hear. Maybe it's in our heads that we need more cc's. Maybe its public pressure for some. I feel , and have been feeling like this is more than enough for us right now. Just want my progressive shock back on again. Not sure, but I may swap bars again too. Not sure to what, maybe victory bars. Hmm.

I had a 2007 Silver V star 1300, put 58,000 trouble free miles on it and rode twp up with wife everywhere and through the Finger Lakes a couple times, and never had an issue or problem, I regret selling it and buying a 2012 Tenere, worst mistake I made and regrett it, V Star 1300 is an awesome beautiful bike for sure, all the best, love your videos. I also had progessive front springs in mine, K$N filter and modified the exhaust to breathe better, but it has plenty of power, 80hp and torque 85.

I bought my Vstar 1300 deluxe new in 2014 and have ridden/traveled 2 up with both hard bags full as well as 2 more duffles tied down on the luggage rack behind the rear back rest and have had zero complaints regarding power. Guess people fail to remember that the biggest motor that Harley used for years was the 80 cu inch (1300). I've had two of those and never thought they were under powered either. Heck, Honda's Gold Wing was a 1200 for years. I love my Yamaha Vstar, most reliable bike I have ever owned! Side note; you can dump a 30 pack of beer (out of the box) in the hard bag. I put one in each for even weight distribution:0)

Thanks for watching, hope you didn't take the video too literally. I love ny vstat 1300 deluxe, and have had it since brand new with 1 mile. This video .... really is me comparing the stock shock I took off with the progressive shock I had on the bike for about 2 or 3 years. Issue i had with the progressive shock is that some foreign object got up in the seal and allowed the oil to leak out. Hence I put the stock shock back on in this ride. In comparison the stock shock really does pale compared to the progressive full shock combo. To bad I couldn't get it replaced due to them not honoring the warranty. See it was sold to me as for the 1300, but they state they never made one for the 1300, but did for the 950.. So yeah. Anyhow hope you enjoyed the rest of the video including the views, check out my many other videos, and see just how much me 1300 and I get along. Take care.

My indian Scout is 1133cc (69ci) and 100HP. I don't notice any difference in the engine pull when the wife is riding with me. Only thing I notice with a passenger is I have to be careful when stopping and slow turning as the passenger seat is up high throwing off the center of gravity.

Progressive rear spring (or complete shock setup) is a must on the V Star 1300 if one plans on running with more than about 150 pounds on the back. It's a simple function of the bikes' weight (only a little over 700 pounds wet without accessories) and only 52% of the weight being on the rear tire; a stiff shock/spring setup would make it ride rough as a cob, so the factory spring is pretty mushy. Without the progressive, preload must be set way up for any additional weight and that leads to the pillion suffering the sensation that the bike is trying to "buck her off" on big dips and bumps. As to those who say this bike is no good for two-up...many of them are accustomed to the big pushrod V-twins that make gobs of torque down low and run out of steam much above 5,000 RPM. These engines are overbore and have a 6,300 RPM limiter. There is also a torque "dip" in the low-to-mid rev range. This means that short-shifting (which works well on the "old school" tractor motors) keeps the V Star from ever reaching its powerband, and it feels like a pig. Wring its neck though, and you'll dust the much-larger-displacement cruiser next to you more often than not. Mine has seen a GPS-verified 134 MPH, so even though they sometimes seem like they are "screaming" on the Interstate, there is PLENTY left.

Nice review, im also thingking of getting one of this for 2 up purpose? I really like the set up of this bike, not too big or too heavy? Might be easier at tight space but since you mentioned that the motor doesnt have that much power to haul , i might have to look another one ? Good thing i saw you video review? What can you recomend that is similar to this but maybe a little higher torque ? I dont prefer 800 or higher bike though ? Its just too big and heavy. Hey Dbest1a’s Ride, Ive been following your vids for a year or so, hot myself a 2013 VSTAR 1300 Deluxe and I absolutely love the bike too. It has V&Hines big radius pipes, BAK XXX and Power commander 5. I’ve ridden 2 up with my wife and it handles That no problem. I’m getting ready to get an IVANS ECU tune done or VSTAR 30T pulley gear swap to 31T from Stryker pulley. Should I get both done or just 1? Reason why is because I’d like to drop high rpms going 80-85mph on interstates. I’m always reaching for a 6 gear. Maybe ratio in gearing will be enough? Also I was wondering if taking fuel management system off and doing the ECU flash will help with fuel economy? At the moment from full to empty I can’t go further than 105 miles on a tank. Again love your videos, just wanted a bit of your advice as a veteran to this great bike!
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you for the kind words. Hehe. As for the ecu flash or the 30T, they both aren't very related. The flash will get rid of the nutty side effects of the stock turning. Especially the fuel cut. The pcV may be set a bit rich . I am getting approx 45mpg. My lowest 42mpg. The 30T for some i have heard will lower the revs some up at those speeds. Our gearing is pretty tall, and we do suffer at the higher speeds a bit. Some say they are dead smooth above 70, but in my experience I notice a fair amount of vib in the tank/floorboards above 70. The 30T may help up there, but you will loose your spankings down low. I guess depends on what trade off your wiling to take.

I don't know who would say that a VStar 1300 cna't handle 2 up riding. Whoever it was obviously don't know what they're talking about. The Vstar has great power enough for 2 up riding. That engine doesn't even sound like it's struggling at all, and also sound smooth and purring like a kitten. Sometimes I wish I still had mine instead of the Springfield. Presently need a rear tire replacement due to a suspicious slow leak. $300. Ride safe and good numbers to the lady of the house.

Yup.. it sits right now t hp in the high 90s, and tq about the 80s maybe. I'd have to look at the dyno from the gentleman that did my ECU flash. The addition of the "free flowing" exhaust doesn't help. That brings up hp#s. The kicker is the engine is a over square design, not like the HDs which like low end. This bikes motor likes to sing. Crack the throttle n it just comes alive.. Haha. The flash gets rid of some of the small quirks the many had to put in so it could make it into the states. (Emissions). Basically you hold each gear a little longer .

@@dbest1aVlogs hey does this bike have enough get up and go for interstates and able to pass people without a problem I weight 290 and 6'4 height what do you think for my size
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
I used to be 260, and never had an issue running 70 or 80 on the freeway. 80 the motor spins at a high rpm due to 5 gears. 70mph is about 3100 rpm with a 170/70 rear tire. About 3150 or so with a 180/65 rear tire. So 80mph it's a little higher. I'm usually comfortable cruising 65 to 75. All in all to answer your question yes it would have enough passing power. You would run into issues with seating comfort. You would also want the floorboard extensions too, to give you more stretch out room due to your height. As you know by now, you will have to make a few changes to make the bike fit you. I have the deluxe which is. Ice, but not very fond of the fairing. I love the bags over the leather ones though .... big time. Anymore questions , don't hesitate to ask. You can see my trip playlists to get an idea on a little bit of highway riding.

Anytime. I know it's tough to buy one of these bikes now. Can't even test ride em. Hehe. I bet there are still some with hardly any miles sitting around. Shoot actually , all bikes now.. especially Harley. They keep coming out with new models, and the old ones are just sitting around with little to no miles.

I can actually see your bike not tracking right in the corners(even at a the slow speeds you are going) with your wife on the back...You might want to upgrade that shock before you do too much more 2up riding, its really not safe. My Victory has an adjustable air shock which If I set with the right psi works like a charm no matter what the ride situation is. With its big 106ci cammed up engine that puts out 113 lbs of torque at the rear wheel from basically 1800rpms, power wise I barely notice when I have a passenger. These are some reasons why I'm not anxious to get rid of Vic for another bike.
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 5 жыл бұрын
Yea my progressive shock handles the 2 up ride much better. The tracking is the alignment being off a bit, which I have been struggling with but recently got some helpful info from a subscriber. Yeah the Vics I demoed had tons of low end grunt .. and lean angle. Way more than mine. They were nice.

Passenger weight?
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 3 жыл бұрын
Between the 2 of us we make up about 385 at that time. I'm a little heavier now. Keep in mind , I was more raging on the bad stock shock I put in the bike , as the "awesome" progressive shock I had burst a seal and went bad. I know have another progressive shock installed. The progressive shock handles our weight 2 up 10x better than the stock shock. The only other thing I wish the rear shock had was more travel. When your 2 up you run out of travel super quick on these bikes. So I eneded up having to move the rebound to 1 instead of 2 or 3. This allowed for more movement and a more comfortable ride over humps in the highway 2 up. Ofcourse tbe lighter you are the better the 1300 does 2 up. It's not a tourque motor so you need to keep the revs a little higher between shifts to maintain smooth acceleration.

still i would think about more air flow if i were you if it came thru a less restrictive air filter or more open pipes ,unless they have changed Yamaha's can tend to run hotter than most other bikes of comparable size even with water cooling ,heat as in a good long ride ,stop to eat or something & get hard starting issues,hopefully u dont have that ,but good air flow is crucial to solving it

I don't notice my wife on the back I sometimes get scared that she fell off and I look back to make sure shes there. lol I Have a 2013 v star 1300 and Ive raced a Yamaha maybe "midnight star" or something 1800cc and I completely dominated and left him like he was at a stand still.. He was speechless my step dad has a Goldwing and he took off down the freeway and he was shocked I was still behind him at about 110 he thought he left us.. My buddy has a 2019 hd street glide ive been wanting to race but he wanted to break it in he has prob 2500 miles now. I think hes scared cause I think I will beat him. I have a open air filter mod deal, cobra pipe, and a cobra power commander.. Oh I also smoked a Harley it was prob the older moter "98" or whatever that engine was but we both wide opened the throttle getting on freeway and I completely left him in my dust (my wife was on the back as well he was solo) lol I think power is good I don't need/want 5th gear till over 70mph. gears are longer than other bikes ive had and I notice my buddy shifting before me and more on his hd with 6 gears

Hahaha. Man you been breaking out that dustpan for dudes. Lmao. I had swapped off my progressive shock for the stock which wasn't very good. The difference between the two is seriously night and day lol. The progressive shock blew a seal.. so u ended up pulling it and rebuilding it. Had to clean the seal . I used it for a little longer,but belt it didn't feel the same .. So ditched it and went with a newer stock and the progressive spring. I may need to still turn fhe preload up though a bit. Either that or this shock isn't very good. (Got it used) Overall I love me vstar though..

@@dbest1aVlogs hahaha (dust pan) , Im good with the shocks on there cant complain. I paid 4500 for my star couple years ago with less than 7k (and all mods already on it including ultimate seat) and its been rock solid. My buddys brand new Harley's been in the shop twice now and left him stranded one of those times. I drove out to where he was and had to charge his battery and follow him home he just made it to drive way when was shutting down again. (that's got to hurt) LOL The owner before me also removed the GPS and installed an infinity head unit where GPS was and removed controls.. At first i was wanting the GPS but after couple days I was and still am loving the infinity unit.. he installed an antenna that goes to the back of the bike for am / fm radio. Blue tooth works flawless so i stream music constantly and you could by another GPS an mount it on bars or just use your phone which Ive done and it goes through the infinity unit and speakers.. If i had the choice i would'nt go back to factory setup i like how it is now..
