Great technique removing the fill plug first. Never the other way around. If the fill plug won't come out after the oil is drained you're in a pickle. Especially if it needs to get you to work in the morning! Great video.

Thanks for sharing! Remember there's a transfer case that need the oil changed as well. It right next to the exhaust Y pipe merge. 80, 90 weight oil....

I believe the Honda transfer case fluid is 75W-85 if I’m remembering correctly.

Great video! How would you change the front differential?
@stuffyoucando2
@stuffyoucando2 6 жыл бұрын
The Pilot is a front wheel drive based platform. The front differential is located inside the transmission, changing the transmission fluid would take care of that. There is a transfer case as well that directs power to the rear wheels. That is a simple drain and fill similar to the rear differential.

Why the VTM4 shows on the dash
@sarahendrix3132
@sarahendrix3132 4 жыл бұрын
@@betong5367 When the VTM-4 light shows on the dash after starting the vehicle, could be a problem with your differential system or maybe just low on VTM-4 fluid (get Honda brand if servicing a Honda and note that it is drained the same way other fluids are, the difference is in refilling, one needs to pump it back in through the fill plug at top once securing the drain plug underneath after fluid drained). Got ahead of myself...First thing would be to check OBD-2 scanner info when you have any component light reflecting on the dash that's not normally there. Can be done free at many local auto parts stores like Auto Zone. If you get the VTM-4 light and a check engine light together, sometimes its the knock sensor and sometimes it is a solenoid in the differential system. Could be various other things so the best thing to do is check OBD2 scanner for codes to see if it can give you a place to start :) Hope this is what you were asking!

Is it really necessary to use a torque wrench?
@stuffyoucando2
@stuffyoucando2 5 жыл бұрын
I would be very careful not to overtighten as these parts are aluminum.

I know it's been a while, since you asked this, but ... Depends how experienced you are. Aluminum parts on these cars are very easy to strip, or overtighten. If you do a lot of work, it is worth it to invest in a torque wrench and be sure. If you don't use one, always use the smallest wrench that will do the job. The same torque feels very different with a 3/8" ratchet vs a 1/2" ratchet, and a breaker bar will EASILY overtighten the bolt. I feel much more confident using a torque wrench on this car. When I had a 66 Ford Ranchero, with a steel block, It was a lot more forgiving, and I worked on it a lot more often, so I had good "feel" with my wrenches. Good luck.

after changing the differential fluid at how many miles it needs to be change again ...?
@stuffyoucando2
@stuffyoucando2 6 жыл бұрын
I do mine when the maintenance minder calls for it. I do believe there is a schedule to do it at 15k miles, 30k, miles, then every 30k miles after that.

Do you have to change the front diff fluid?
@stuffyoucando2
@stuffyoucando2 4 жыл бұрын
The front “differential” would lubricated by the transmission fluid so a transmission fluid change would take care of that. For four wheel drive models there is also the transfer case that the fluid can be changed for as well. I plan to cover that in a future video.

Deos the vtm and traction light go out after on its own? Or do I need to clear codes
@stuffyoucando2
@stuffyoucando2 5 жыл бұрын
The VTM-4 and traction control lights don’t come on if a fluid change is needed, you have a different problem.
@gtrsteve

@SNOOKi there is an VTM-4 fluid sensor that commonly goes bad. Check this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4XbeWSnf52BjsU
