Gerrie Coetzee, What a legend of our time, growing up.

Didn’t realize how fast he was, especially for a heavyweight!

A true hard luck story. But he just kept plugging away and won it all in what was probably his last chance. I remember the Spinks fight well. They spent a half an hour before the fight, building up Spinks. Talking about him being on the comeback trail. That all ended with the first right hand. It was great to see.

Coetzee had a poor landing ratio. he was missing half of his punches. Good for him he had power in his fists

If he had been more accurate, and a better skilled boxer, he would've gone far.

I was so angry with Dokes when he lost his title to Coetzee in 83, it felt at the time like a victory for apartheid South Africa. But have full respect for Coetzee now, he wasn't afraid to take it to the Americans at a time when they had monopolized the heavyweight division since the beginning of the 20th century.
