Fun fact: Though the name Angron is obviously some derivative of "Anger", it may also come from the Latin "Angor" meaning Anguish. It's a little mix of the two if you will. Lion El Johnson was named for Lionel Johnson, the Dark Angles for his poem ‘The Dark Angel’ which among other things contained references to his struggle with closeting his homosexuality. And their Monastery ‘The Rock’ was named for the gay bar of the same name. They are related… but not directly, The Rock has nothing to do with Lionel Johnson aside from homosexuality. It’s not like he was a noted patron or founder of the bar or anything.

The faction Codices/Codexes are the best lore for explaining "where/when did ______ start/show up?" in addition to faction specific Black Library novels. It's a hell of a rabbit hole.

The army books are straight up the best lore sources. You want narrative, sure, you can go for the novels instead, but if you are looking to UNDERSTAND factions and how they fit in the universe, the Codexes are the absolute best lore source.

33:57 I wouldn't go as far as calling the Imperium "fascist", by simple virtue that it's logistically impossible for the Administratum or the Ecclesiarchy to universally enforce anything that granularly on a galactic scale. In practice, all that matters to them is that the taxes are paid on time and that the Emperor is venerated in some form. And it generally takes them awhile to notice when the checks stop clearing regardless, assuming they even remember there's a world there to begin with; records get lost all the time. From a gameplay perspective, this relatively hands off approach gives you the wiggle room to come up with your own worlds, systems, subsectors, etc, because at the end of the day, Warhammer is about Your Dudes™, i.e. the characters and armies you build or come up with, and the shenanigans they get up to.

@@timtim6373 yes, this happened to some random guardsman? during the heresy, i think it was on Ullanor? he saw it for like a split second while hunkering down and by how he descrives it its pretty much the same as a chaos god but without the chaos part, so an order god, his apparence was fine, but he felt the "age" of the emperor, its like he saw humanity itself, and given what we know about the emperor, it fits.

As an ork player i don't need the lore i just love it all. Favorite 40k god is nurgle. Mainly because of the death guard but i do love the demons more than the space marines. (The horus heresy book with death guards is one of my favorite ones.)

Just a couple of things, the Big E is supposedly 40k to close to 50k years old (Depends on what lore you're looking at) and when you're the most powerful Psyker in existence people only see you as you want them to see you. Also all the warp storms that ended humanities Age of Technology were Slaanesh's "labor pains" as they were about to be born and the storms all got blown away by the birth. Always felt like Bricky didn't get that part quite right. The Necrons are waking up because 1.) the Mechanicus accidentally woke a few Tomb Worlds which started a slow chain reaction that started to spreading to all the rest (could be misremembering this part though) and 2.) the Silent King while in self imposed exile between galaxies discovered the Tyranids heading for our galaxy and rushed back to wake up all the Necrons because how are they supposed to rule over the galaxy if everything gets eaten first. For more long form deep dives into 40k lore I would suggest channels like Isyander & Koda, Sandman of Terra and WesHammer. Should also catch the Astartes 5 part video, so good.

Bricky made one video years ago, and it’s just outpacing the market on returns on investment. Sweet six pack is my favorite flavor. I think it tastes more like wild berry cherry. 27:21 yeah, man was making cold calls for geico 32:21 before he died he was basically an anime trope of being immortal and endlessly accruing power at a reasonable rate, then when he was mostly dead and stuck on the throne, worshiped for 10K years with endless killing of threats to humanity in his name, he kinda got stuck to the chair and ended up a warp god matirium god hybrid completely against his will.

Horus Heresy was a big defining moment that changed everything, 40k is the default sci-fi Warhammer time, a LOT of things happened between like the biggest and smartest Ork in forever, the Sisters of Battle, arrival of the Tyranids, rise of the Tau, Squats die off and Votann come back, a buncha Primarchs disappear and some reappear, there's a point where the assassin office takes charge and get knocked down again, the biggest export of Guardsmen establishes itself and recently falls in style, that includes the biggest manifestation of The Warp explosively expanding and tearing a rift through humanity which itself was previously guarded by space marines that got done dirty and started a secessionist war, the list just keeps going. The primarchs were created by the Emperor and his best scientists, but he made a deal with the Chaos Gods for an essential component of their creation; Big E then immediately reneged on the deal and the first payback for that was Tzeentch hucking all the baby primarchs in their pods to random places in the galaxy. That event also saw interference and manipulation from other Gods and entities to tip the scales a little, like making Jaghatai Khan land on the other side of his planet instead so he is raised differently which causes him to be loyal instead of turning to Chaos.

The emperor is a perpetual so essentially immortal, hundreds of not thousands of shaman suicided to supercharge him before his birth, he made deals with the chaos gods. He is possibly stronger than individual chaos gods but he is essentially a god if not in name

There was a legend surrounding Big E's existence which talks about him being the combined minds and powers of all of the world's shaman (those we call psykers) in an effort to save humanity from itself but that is apocryphal no matter how cool of a story it makes. Though there is a line mentioned by Horus that the emperor lived in Anatolia during his childhood, sadly the only ones who know the truth of it all or any good stories about that time are dead including Rylanor who fought alongside the emperor during the last section of the unification war on terra.

In the Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader RPGs, playing a Psyker is REALLY risky. If you aren't sanctioned, you try to not use your powers if anyone is around. If you use your powers too many times, you go insane. If you botch too many dice rolls, you risk either bringing a demon in through the warp, or due to an unforeseen warp phenomenon, your head explodes, like in the movie Scanners.
