You sir are a genius. Thanks for the heads up on this emergency hack. I have a Tripp-Lite UPS n my home office and another for my sons gaming rig. Both UPS were given to me years ago (had three) by a friend who buys and flips auctioned defaulted storage rentals. Just Googled for replacement battery and see your video in the results. Now I know in an emergency the stronger tripp-lites can also be used as inverters or used with solar panels. Never ever would have crossed my mind without your tip. Thanks!! Wish I had not discarded Tripp-Lite #3 which never worked for me before learning the batteries are replaceable. Maybe will find one in business trash cans where you live :P thx x2

I just purchased a similar unit new for $229. I want to use it "as is" but plan on upgrading the batteries to AGM batteries with a lot more capacity. Thanks for the tips and giving encouragement for us DIYers!

I watched this video a few days ago and then I went and found a free UPS also, it was a OPTI-UPS Thunder Shield TS2250B 2000 VA 1200W 11amp. I simply connected 24v to it and it worked perfectly. I am going to try and build a somewhat large battery out of 18650 cells. I need to figure out how to charge it though, perhaps I will do a similar solar setup.

I really enjoy your videos! Are you self-taught or did you study electronics at university?

Thanks. Most of what I learn is self taught. I just love to tinker with stuffs and find ways to use things other than what they are intended to use for. Like the old saying, "necessity is mother of all invention". If you really need it (in this case, "love it"), you'll find a way to do it.

Will this setup charge the batteries very well? How long does it take to charge them?
@tangodigitalsystems5 жыл бұрын
No the UPS wont even charge the battery half way because the battery amps is way larger than the UPS. You have to find a separate charger for the batteries. The size of the batteries is way to much for the UPS-that's a lot of current on the MOSFET. They will heat up quickly and burn out if the batteries stays for long.
