The 21st and final stage of the Vuelta a España is quite like the final day of the Tour of France, largely ceremonial until they get into Madrid. It’s a flat one and the winner of La Roja (The red jersey) celebrating the tenth anniversary of it’s introduction, will be crowned. It’s a sprinters dream stage to bring the curtain down on the 2019 Vuelta with a stage win on the final day of the final grand tour of the year.#LaVuelta19

All 3 Grands Tours were open, exciting, and GCN did a terrific job with their daily highlights. A new generation of pro riders has the ambition to take the helm but the old guns are fighting fiercely to keep the lead. Ranking for 2019 = 1/ La Vuelta (not won by a Colombian) 2/ Le Tour (bravo Alaphilippe for the show) 3/ Il Giro (Roglic training camp). GCN best comments by Dan.

Love these highlight videos! One question though, at the final sprint there were two blue, what I would call noise makers, that fall onto road and then find their way back under the barriers. It almost seems like there was a string attached and they were purposefully placed and dragged back... or could it be that fans dropped them (accidental or not) and the breeze caused by the riders swept them off course? #askGCN

I think the Sprint classification of the Vuelta is broken. Bennett should have won, because he was the best finisher of this tour, but instead all the GC leaders are also on the top of the sprint classification.
@JMise
@JMise 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Jakobsen is even better example. Two sprint stage wins and 12th position in the final ranking. In front of him is Majka with 0 wins and a single third place.
@nolketasma4061
@nolketasma4061 5 жыл бұрын
The 'sprint stage' that Nairo won cost the sprinters the win. If Bennett/Jakobsen scored points there it would have been entirely different. That was just hard, offensive racing, not a broken classification.
@Draregkoeliekalie
@Draregkoeliekalie 5 жыл бұрын
Its nog a sprint classification. Its the points classification and its exactly how it was originally intended to be, the Rider that finished highest on average every stage, obviously winning giving most points.
@_TeXoN_
@_TeXoN_ 5 жыл бұрын
@@Draregkoeliekalie In this case you dont need another classification. If the winner of the Gc should also win the points classification, then one of these could be dropped.
@nolketasma4061
@nolketasma4061 5 жыл бұрын
@@_TeXoN_ It's the only classification where the climbers and sprinters can go head to head. I think that's a valuable asset and usually great to watch.

Thought this year has been the worse for grand tours in some time. Whatever the reasons but mainly due to the wrong combinations of top riders doing the tours all three lacked real battles and excitement. Hopefully next year there will be no injuries, Thomas, froome and egal will all be on different teams, Movistar will drop Quintana and choose a leader the Yates brothers will stop messing about and target the tour helping each other and van der poel will have a ding dong battle with Sagan for green. But unlikely given the in fathomable team ta tics and continued use of radios which has ruined racing like we used to see. Bring back pantani and Hinault, jalabert, kelly and excite us once more. 2019 when the highlight of all three tours was a mudslide it shows how poor the cycling was.

I do think that even though Roglic was fit, he didn't particularly ride well, eg. In the right places at the right time. It takes more than being fit to win a tour / race and therefore I think he was lucky to win (ie no gentleman's agreement and he would have lost). There are so many factors that influence a race I think there is a good argument for the 'agreement'to be scrapped - discuss!
