I have done a lot of digging since I really need something. I have to replace my water heater element every 10 month without adding salt to my softener. How long can this product extend my element usage? Half a month? Two month? Based on my weeks of reading, the main conclusion statistically is: "May or may not work", "a little improvement", "seems working". I am not sure if this type of product is really useful since my salt softener has extended my heater element usage 10+ years. I wish I am wrong, need somebody help me to see it.

You can not compare a salt-based softener with a physical water treatment. If you would decrease the physical hardness and want to spend salt continously, you can use a softener. Here in Europe it is forbidden often, because of the bad environmental factor of usage. I can not say a number how long the heating element will stay clean. We have clients they never had to exchange the heat exchanger anymore and we have clients they double the time. So in your case not every 10 month, so every 20 months. It depends on many factors (your water quality and the temperature of your heating elment.) If the temperature of the heating element inside of your heat exchanger is more than 95°C, Vulcan and no other physical water treatment can help. From that temperature, the scale will burn into the surface of the heating element. Then you only can use salt or chemicals. If you are using a salt-based softener, please take care, that you soften the water not too much, because that will cause corrosion. Should the device be placed before or after the water softener? If before, will it contaminate my softener? Will my softener be ineffective at removing hardness?

Please install Vulcan before the softener. It will not affect the softener in any way. It can also help to extend the softeners life and that you need less salt. Reduce the salt step by step (every week 20%), so you see at which level is the best solution for your needs.

blasko229 all new pipework..recent re plumbing throughout property. When water heats up it makes lime adhesive again apparently.

+cdracos1 Scale bakes in surfaces, when temperatures over 95 degrees are reached. In kettles these temperatures are over this, so here the effect is lower.

The treatment does NOT change the overall water hardness. Unlike in chemical water treatment systems (e.g. a water softener that uses salt) the water treated by Vulcan does not lose minerals, such as calcium and magnesium. The natural composition of the elements in the water remains the same. However, due to a change of the water surface tension your skin will feel remarkably softer. You are sure to feel this effect when taking a shower or even simply washing your hands. Most importantly, scale loses its adhesive characteristic. The treatment does not, however, change the measured water hardness. So on a chemical level you have the same hardness before and after the treatment. what this essentially does is create a electromagnetic collecting all the iron deposits. after a short time(based on your water) it will clog the pipe with iron and reduce water pressure or stop it all together

This is a water 'CONDITIONER' NOT a water SOFTENER! the mineral's are still in the water on the output but they just don't stuck to as many things as it just changes the mineral crystal structure to stop it from sticking to things. I think its worth putting in an extra bit of money and getting a full water softener installed that actually removes the minerals.

Real study shows that Sodium is ESSENTIAL to human life. And that hypertension from salt is not the same for everyone. In many cases it contradicts the theory. Your body requires salt for the nervous system to work and not to mention your whole body does require it.
