It was in the sense of popular music. The new music on the radio was better back in the day. Fewer listening options. Everyone kind of listened to the same thing. Now you have so many options that you are able to compartmentalize your tastes and never listen outside that genre. Still good bands and musicians out there but where do you find it? My buddy just turned me onto this today. But I can hear their influences. @@meiji..

Couldn't agree more, Alexander Bourt is doing a perfect work, and is emphasizing Youssef's grooves with a very minimal but super effective contribution, this denotes his incredible musicality and the respect he has for music and the importance of valuing music rather than personal virtuosity, I can only imagine how difficult it is to be the percussionist of such a creative drummer like Yussef, but I must say that Alexander is truly a master, one of the most beautiful and tasty percussionists of recent years, truly chapeau, and that damned triangle is the perfect essence of it.

@benlorimore

Charlie Stacey is unreal. I saw them play in San Francisco and the keyboard fell halfway off the stand mid solo and he didn't blink an eye and continued ripping with the keyboard hanging at a 45 degree angle, until a someone pulled it back up. Also same show, in a pause/space of silence one song, Yussef brought the entire audience to roaring laughter by the manner he playfully jabbed the toms... it was pure wizardry, never seen anything like it. Easily the best show I've seen in my life, perhaps never to be topped...
@jessefigueroa2682

His fingers running up and down the keyboard in those little quick flourishes at various points is mind blowing to watch. I've literally never seen a person move like that. This man has tapped into some deep cosmic understanding of the keyboard few could hope to achieve.

Used to follow Yussef and his brothers. If you know, you know. UV. Also their collective. They also used to go to my school. I would bump into Yussef time to time and he would of course remember me. Literally saw each other at a train station - embraced. Said “how much I loved UV and his drumming style”. In his humble way he said - “bro let’s do it. Happy to teach you.” I didn’t get on that. I got caught sleeping. I’ve tried to follow Yussef as much as I can over the years. but now he’s going astronomical. And I love it. Big up the collective. Big up SE and the jazz and expression it’s produced over the last few decades. Inspirational stuff.

If there's no wind or just a little breeze i think that's a sound engineer's dream to record outside in an open space like that and it gives a beautiful sound (as you can hear 🙂), let alone if recorded with high quality gear, but even with wind there are accessories or gear that do their job pretty good. You basically have zero reflection (or a natural reverb/echo if you are outside but in a place where there could be some distant surface of any kind which can reflect the sound) instead of the unpleasant excessive sound absorption of a small fully treated room but you got the natural sound dispersion/diffusion, which simply goes naturally and gradually away in the open air, like a caress lost in the sunset breeze...

It is without doubt, clear-minded pathogens pop my soul, melt, then scream supremacy in the name of Sir Yussef Days. Black Classical Music is the most important jazz album of the year. Also, not surprisingly, one of the most overlooked albums of the year. Yussef is more than a tour-de-force, he is the best drummer of his generation. If he’s from South London, then Knight him already. There is something majestic that Yussef finds within a privileged moment of inspiration and improvisation that oozes out in his search for unique fills and connection with his recording and performing peers. Out of all the lineups, both Elijah Fox and Charlie Stacey on keys are simply other worldly with cosmic timing and synth glory, Rocco Palladino on bass has his own tone that lives well outside Pino’s shadow of greatness (father, Pino Palladino) and shines in the outdoor sets from Joshua Tree to Malibu, Venna on Sax and Alexander Bourt on congas/percussion help lift this perfect bite of sound. To explicitly receive this modern jazz with early roots rock and reggae elements feels like a blessing when you’re looking around the music scene and asking, “what’s next?”. The fact that Pitchfork didn’t even review this album tells me everything I need to know about Pitchfork. Marching Band (feat. Masego) and all collaborations felt so natural and brought so much color of sound and diversity that is perfectly placed. Tioga Pass (feat. Rocco Palladino) may be a favorite track that highlights the dynamic skill sets of this drum and bass beat box. They are playing in Seattle tonight then off to Blue Note Japan and the Pacific. I regretfully missed them live on this tour and it makes me feel like walking into traffic. Seriously, I feel like I just left the Pink Floyd Pulse Tour tix on top of my fridge and never found them and it drove me into some deep and dark place for some time. If you have a chance to see a Beethoven …a Stevie Wonder…a Yussef Dayes, make arrangements and get lost in this dossier of expression that will transcend.

I’m a very angry/high anxiety person. A lot of things don’t help me calm down and feel at peace with myself. Well I wanna cry tears of joy cause Yussef’s music is one of the only things that will calm me down and put me at ease and peace with myself. I love his music so much. Youssef and his band are my favorite musicians

You should try meditation, it takes practice, dont expect results right away. A little cannabis never hurts either. Good luck, keep seeking remedies, life is short, slow down
