I just watched a John Mayer interview where he had something similar to say. "If you just learn my song, "Gravity", then great-- big deal. I've been confused about how he seemingly got "3" notes out of just "2" actions this ever since he posted that clip on instagram. @@umphreak9999 just saw this! what i meant was - it can't possibly be the case that he invented this. I mean, i haven't played with my band in 4 years and i was doing this with them. I"m not that clever, so i can't imagine that i was the first, either. Just think it's cute when people take a basic technique and say they invented it. I invented two-hand tapping last week. It's pretty sick!

I learned from it but I wouldn’t play it all descending linearly if I were trying to be funky it’s almost interestingly exotic if it were played in a ridiculously funky band throw some heavy reverb on what’s this funkgaze?
