I've seen one of those drills down in what was Death Valley National Monument back in 1979 at the July 4th celebration at the Furnace Creek Ranch. The Borax miners were still there, and showed an exhibition of their drilling skills. It was a memorable day. It's now a National Park, so since 1994, they've not had Borax mining since then. I used to love watching Death Valley Days back in the 1960's, but I never dreamed I would live there. I've lived there twice, once in 1979 and again in 1981. I love your vlogs!

This has to be one of the best kept museum "towns" I've seen. Some people have put a ton of work and hours into making this town live. I definitely commend them, and you two visiting it and taking us with you. Andrea, I have one of those antique sharpening wheels, just like the one you were demonstrating, on my deck. When my folks were alive and came up to visit, my dad would grab my kitchen knives, pocket knives, and whatever he could sharpen, and sit out there and sharpen everything. He passed 25 years ago at age 95.

I've been to Vulture City several times. The first time (many years ago) it was all original and just how it had been for years. Since that first visit it's gotten more 'developed' with each visit. Now, it's gotten to be more of a Knott's Berry Farm type of place. And, while it's still fun and interesting, I liked it much better in the past. When you would basically pay a few bucks, sign kind of a waiver in case you did something stupid and got hurt and then you could wander around anywhere and take pictures.

A thought and a suggestion: Frank at "Exploring Abandoned Mines" did a video of the Vulture City mine a couple of years ago. It is vast and complex! This was the highest producing gold mine in the history of Arizona. My suggestion is a very, very cool but virtually unknown mining attraction located around 30 miles from Vulture City. From Vulture City, head North on Vulture Mine Road for a couple of miles until you reach US 60, where you turn left [West]. From the intersection of Vulture Mine Road, follow US 60 for 21.5 miles to State Highway 71, where you turn right [North]. Follow State 71 North for around 3.7 miles until you see the sign for Robson's Mining World on the left side of the Highway. You have to watch for the sign, it's set back from the Highway. Turn Left [North] and follow the dirt road 1.7 miles to Robson's Mining World. A low clearance passenger car can make it if you drive carefully. This place is worth seeing. Old man Robson collected mining artifacts for 40 years. He moved whole buildings from mining camps all over Arizona, not to mention every kind of equipment you can imagine.

15:15 As far as I know, in a mining atmosphere a skip car carries ore up a steep incline on wooden boards without wheels like a skid and the incline is usually very steep to the point of almost being vertical. Where as a regular ore cart has wheels and will carry ore on a set of metal tracks with much less of an incline or even flat and mostly level. Most mining levels are at a very slight incline to the face of the mine. This allows for easier travel going somewhat down hill towards the adit to make it easier for hauling heavy loads out of the the mine. This is just the way I understand it. Very well done video tour guys.

I was there many years ago before the current ownership. Stayed in Wickenburg. The drive out was very desolate just like the 19th century. May not have been anyone there, no charge. There was a small rock shop at the entrance, maybe on the honor system. Nothing was restored. Some of the old wood shop buildings were just piles of wood. The most oustanding building was a very large rock power house containing the largest diesel electric generators I have ever seen. They were the size of locomotives. The walls were leaning. They must have been 500 to 1000 kilowat units so plenty of electricity with a large fuel consumption. Ingersol Rand I believe, like submarine engines. There was a modern operation running leach fields on the tailings. Two shafts, the incline and at the back a verticle with a large headframe. I am thinking the moderns have torn it down which sucks. I pestered Frank and Gly to go there which I think they did. Also wanted them to go to the desert bar which they did;nt, now closed. This site should receive state or federal protection. The moderns have already done enough damage. That power house apparently torn down and the machines were museum quality and simply amazing. This place as restored should be a State Park. It was in the middle of nowhere with few visitors and little security. Largest gold producer in AZ.
