My two sons work at the active mine next door. My son Matt told me of so many interesting artifacts they have found. We are all born in Wickenburg and my family started ranching in the area in the early 1900's. Our ranch is in the middle the rich mining area of Stanton and Octave.

So I have been there many times over the years. A little background first time I was twelve and now I am 43. My dad knew someone who knew someone, so we got a private tour of the place, amazing structures and the original saloon was still standing, it had an absolutely beautiful mahogany bar. Second time I went there my high school math teacher had a problem with his ultra light plane and landed at the old air strip that was once there. He called us we brought out the trailer and well let's just say some things when bang. No one was hurt. Then I returned many years later after I had found out they opened for limited tours 1day a week. This was done by a Canadian mining operation that was reprocessing the old tailings with modern technology but they seemed really interested in preserving all the historical buildings. Returned 10 years later to find that a Canadian family, really nice people BTW. Had bought out the old city sight. However a new company had bought all the mining rights and was gonna tear down the rest of the old facilities. That's a real shame. There was a really neat inline 12 or 16 motor, that I hope they donate to someone. Now another interesting feature that the current care takers didn't know about it didn't share was that about a mile down the road is a Cemetary known as the children's cemetery. Some time in the late 1800s a bout of sickness came and killed all but one of the children. Cemetary is in rough shape but someone still keeps a flag flying.

I just finished filming my initial exploration of the lower levels of one of the hard-rock mines in Joy. Found a lot of cool stuff in there. Mining operations were halted because of WWII. There are mine openings that still have significant copper staining and veins in the daylight. I'm amazed they haven't continued mining operations there. If you see it you're gonna call me stupid for not having a helmet, and you're not wrong.

Oh no that was a hair-raising start, glad you weren't scared Frank. Yes better to be cautious than dead!! Good to see Gabe out exploring with you again. Wow it was worth the effort, explosive box and cart to see right off the bat. The miners art was different 😂. You found some awesome artefacts. Optimism: “Anything sparkly and shiny is gold” - Experience: "All that glitters is not gold” That toilet seat fit the carbide can so well 🤣. That was a cool take at the end as you both disappeared into the distance. Well done guys. Take care and stay safe. 👍❤️

Had explored here about 12-15 years ago, curator in the gift shack let us wander(at our risk) around the grounds at will. Lots of buildings with equipment still laying in place. One building used as the cook shack still had pots, pans, tables. nearby was the "hangin tree" (ironwood) used to physically hang workers that were filling their pockets with the ore. Also the one vertical shaft had a horizontal shaft on one of the levels, that had caved in trapping a few workers, their remains never recovered (so the story goes) Thanks for sharing your "gutsy" adventure.......

Tom Massie with gold fever went down one of the declines back when the mine was first put on the market he and his daughter along with 1 of the caretaker's when the water was low. They made it to the 4 or 500ft level and showed a working face that was just covered with little gold veinlets, was a cool shot plus they showed the mill and the powerhouse that still had the huge diesel engine in it

Haven't been there in over 20 years. Back then they were still leaching with acid as they were grand fathered in or so i was told. Assay office was supposed to have been made of ore from the mine and i remember there was an unfortunate accident there way back when. I also remember a giant of an engine that provided the mine with power. Had a ladder to access the top of the engine with a platform.

Really sad news, about the destruction going on, there. The first time I went there, MANY years ago, for a very small fee, I was allowed to go, unescorted, through all of the old buildings including the power house, compressor house and mill. The last time I went there, maybe 12 years ago, the deal was pretty much the same, except that I wasn't allowed to access the mill, compressor, power house and such. Really a neat place. Sorry to see the changes.

@@exploringabandonedmines no prob, the ones in the Bradshaws are 99% on public BLM land, some of the workings go back to the 1860s (Oldest one I wriggled down was the Golden Turkey mine near Cleator, opened 1867 if I remember right, collapsed about 3 years ago after a huge rain flooded out the supports) The ones near Wilcox can be tricky, some are on public, some are on private, some are old and abandoned and some workings are still active, pretty sure most of the old ones connect to each other so you could end up popping out on someone's property (kinda like that silver mine in Mexico with the 3 guys and 5 mean dogs)

I’ve been to Vulture Mine several times over the years, back when you could explore the areas that you showed are being torn down (which is such a shame). I’ve wondered for years what it looked like inside the mine, and what you showed is quite amazing. Not sure if you are familiar with the site called the Glory Hole, where several miners and Burros died in a collapse in the early 1900’s.? Just curious how far from that area you think you were or if you could see any evidence of that collapse from inside? Anyway, this is one of our favorite channels! Thanks for doing what you do!
