John Cale invented this arrangement of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, and this is the version everyone else has covered. But Cale's rendition is far better than everyone else's that followed, because every other singer goes over the top, egoistically screeching and shouting to add "emotion" during the "hallelujah"s. Cale doesn't, and his version is all the more dignified and beautiful for it.

Not only did John create this arrangement which is better than Cohen's, honestly I think he has the best voice for it too. Buckley is great but he doesn't have the old bitter sound, he was too young. Cale's voice is deep and mature like Cohen's voice but smoother and technically much better. He doesn't do any exaggeration towards the end like many do, his voice is enough

@SunlightGwyn
@SunlightGwyn 10 ай бұрын
The chorus and build up in this song is literally genius. He starts off the build up normal at 1:47 and then an immediate surge of energy 1:50 for the rest of the build up culminating with a truimphant "Hallelujah" (1:56). And right after that he always has a collection of more quiet and haunting Hallelujahs (1:59) as if he is in deep thought about what he's singing about.

For those who wants to know the meaning of the lyrics, the song is being sung from the perspective of a soldier from Israel, whose wife was having an affair with King David, at the moment King David of the kingdom of Israel, Before starting the affair, the King David was able to see the soldiers wife from the window of his room while she was showering at night (From here comes: you saw her bathing on the roof, the beauty and the moonlight overthrew you), from this moment the King David fell in love with her, and started to hit on her,) then ahead soldier says (and remember when i moved in you? the holly dark was moving too) which means sexually, she was being banged by her husband and King David, and it describes how the passion of the wife for the soldier was dying while he was happy with her (Holly Dove) the big problem comes when King David fears the soldier is aware of the affair, and given to the laws of older Israel, the women who has an affair when having a husband was condemned to be killed, so to avoid this, King David sent the husband (Soldier) to the front lines of a war they were having at the moment with another kingdom so that he was killed quickly and the King David in this way could continue his romance with the women... very unfortunate story.

She tried to get him to tell her and he said if he was tied up so she tied him up in his sleep but he broke the ropes (God strength power stuff) and eventually she got him to tell the truth, that if his hair was cut he would lose his strength. She she cut his hair when he slept and he lost his powers and was captured and tortured and/or killed

This song is so magical! And most have no clue how deep this song really is. It speaks frequency/chakra/ aura/love/Harmony!

"The only thing I've learned from love is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you" my favourite part. That and "you saw her laying on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you, she tied you to a kitchen chair she broke your throne and cut you hair"

The best version of this song. True, pure, broken. Emotion in a song as there should be. Beautiful.

those people i guess did not see shrek in theaters in 2001....everyone was shook when this started to play..its so out of nowhere unexpected for a film that starts with all star and poop jokes to have a scene this deep...i remember people started to cry lol..the change of tones from the fist half of the film to this song is jarring in a good way and it works so well...flat out jaws on the floor stunned people cause the film was marketed as a gag fest for kids...no one saw these feels coming from such beautiful music

@@razkable in other words, they don’t really care for music, do they? 😂 but I agree, I didn’t get to watch it in theaters but when I watched it and this song came on I was shook. Did not expect that at all.

This truly is the best version of Hallelujah, the rhythm, and the tone is absolute perfection. Unlike other versions, not only is the singer's voice soothing, this version just flows so smoothly and doesn't have sudden breaks in lyrics.

Donkey: Shrek, what are you doing? You're letting her get away! Shrek: Yeah, so what? Donkey: Shrek, there's something about her you don't know. Look, I talked to her last night. She's-- Shrek: I know you talked to her last night! You're great pals, aren't ya?! Now, if you two are such good friends, why don't you follow her home?! Donkey: But, Shrek, I--I wanna go with you. Shrek: *Hey!* I told you, didn't I? You're not coming home with me. I live alone! My swamp! Me! Nobody else! Understand?! Nobody! *ESPECIALLY USELESS, PATHETIC, ANNOYING, TALKING DONKEYS!* Donkey: But I thought-- Shrek: Yeah, You know what? *You* thought wrong!

I was like Shrek in that reaction when I gave up on Pokémon for good riddance. On such a boy who is a dumbass like that BobPants SpongeSquare who is addicted to Pokémon too much. Especially that Team Rocket that are after him including that dumbass talking kitty cat.
