Because the clunks should occur at the same time. So one cable is off a little. Like the tip on the distributor pins. Break em off! Your buddy in England/Ireland will like that.

Hey Thomas , my 96 jetta had a burnt belt smell this morning and it was squeaking/grinding a little. The alternator/ac pump belt seems fine. Could the timing belt tensioner bearing be failing and destroying the back side of the timing belt? It's a 2.0 l engine

I put in all new water pump and belt on ABA engine but what must I do to got noise in timing belt cover is there special Volkswagen tool out there to just tighten belt thanks
@EXOVCDS2 жыл бұрын
If the timing belt is noisy, you have to adjust the tensioner. If the belt is old, stretched, cracking... replace the belt. Loosen the tensioner nut and rotate the tensioner to tighten the belt... then tighten the nut. If the belt is too tight, the tensioner will be noisy.

If it was running before, then something is not right now. I can't tell from just text. Many people tell me that timing (cam, crank distributor) is ok... but once they send me pictures, I can see that it is not. Check it for power & ground when it is activated... if it has power & ground but does not pump / run, replace the pump. I'd have to check a wiring diagram to see where the fuse for it is.

@krysbrandonlestat98735 жыл бұрын
do it actually goes a specific way ?
@EXOVCDS5 жыл бұрын
If you removed the belt while the cam & crank were at TDC, then the "intermediate" shaft pulley / distributor should also be at TDC. So if you didn't move it, then just put the belt back on. If it dis move, remove the distributor cap and turn the rotor until the rotor points to the #1 notch in the distributor housing... then, place the belt over the cam gear, the intermediate gear and then the crank gear. Adjust belt tension and that's it.

My '05 Touareg 3.2 needs transmission work (there was metal shavings in the fluid) and gets stuck shifting, locking up and shutting down the engine. Do you think a used one from LKQ with 2 year warranty would be a good option? Also, do you think i should get new timing chains while it's in there? I plan on taking it to AAMCO. Any advice on where I should take it, or source the transmission from? Thanks a lot!
@EXOVCDS5 жыл бұрын
Sorry... I have no transmission or chain experience on Touareg's. The transmission guys might know transmissions... but not sure how much they will know about timing chains. If you can find a shop that's familiar with both jobs, that's the place to take it. If AAMCO says they can, go for it.

as long as the "OT" mark on the camshaft sprocket lines up with the OT mark and arrow on the head of the engine does this mean that the cylinder head is at TDC? and what is the dimple on the camshaft sprocket for?
@EXOVCDS6 жыл бұрын
Russell Middleton If the cam sprocket has an OT, then the OT needs to line-up with the OT on the head... dimple in cam gear is for different application / irrelevant if OT marks are present.

Thomas EXOVCDS so do you think i have a hall sensor issue? Cel comes on when car backfires then goes away, car sometimes even stalls. I scan it while driving and get p0340. Timing marks all look good though

@@JRamirez943 could be hall sensor, could be something else. You need to check the signal, timing belt tension, crank gear, rotor alignment etc.
@JRamirez9434 жыл бұрын
Thomas EXOVCDS im going to do timing again. Feels like its off the way it drives.
@EXOVCDS4 жыл бұрын
@@JRamirez943 Car was running fine and you are now all of a sudden getting P0340? Of you did some timing belt / distributor work and after that you are getting the code? Cam / hall sensors fail with age. You can check if the hall sensor works with a Digital Multimeter. Key ON engine off. Check the voltage of the center wire of the hall sensor plug... turn the engine by hand. The voltage should go High & low. If it stays high or low, then the sensor is bad. The distributor hall sensor shutter wheel only has 1 window, so you have to turn the engine until the window goes across the hall sensor. REmove the distributor cap so that you can see the shutter window. Once the window is close to the hall sensor, keep rotating until the window goes past the sensor. Go back & forth to see the signal change.

@@EXOVCDS it's says open/short circuit to positive, the car runs good only when the engine light comes on it kills a bit of power so it doesn't feel as fast as when it's off and it comes on and a couple minutes later it turns off i also got the code 00513 engine speed sensor no signal

but i always had the service engine light even before doing the timing so i hope is just a sensor and where is that camshaft hall sensor location is it the one on the distributor?
@EXOVCDS4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's the hall sensor in the distributor. Since power comes & goes, it's most likely a bad sensor. If power were always bad, it could be incorrect timing or a bad sensor.
