Thank you for this video. I'm 5 miles from a fire and desperately trying to save my VW from the fire. Had it all torn about and this morning working on getting timing done so I can get everything put back together and drive it off.

Very good demo, thanks. Having the engine out was a big help for me. I just learned that the water pump is driven off the timing belt as compared to chain cam engines where it has to be driven off the serpentine belt. Thanks again!

Quick question . I have to get my cam lined up to the mark on the plastic , I have to turn it by hand . Before I do this . When I stick my screw driver in the #1 spark hole. Is it suppose to be down or up? I believe #1 and #4 are down right now .

And what do you do when some moron prior to you owning it has stripped the 6mm hex bolts that hold the bottom pulley on? I am tempted on seeing if a mechanics will pull them off and replace them.
@CodytheCarGuy10 жыл бұрын
they are all sorts of fun to remove and yes if its in any kind of way messed up i always replace them!
@MAGWolf10 жыл бұрын
I pounded a 12mm Socket onto each one and they finally came out. Thankfully didn't have to drill them. Went to hardware store and got some new ones that are much nicer grade 10. Was not a fun job very little clearance on the Golf to do it. Now to replace my Inner Tie Rods and ends.

I can't get my timing belt back on without a lot of force. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to get it back on? Its on the water pump and crank sprocket but just cant seem to get it on even with tensioner very loose. Also, I don't have a tool for the tensioner. Any idea on how to do final adjustment? My engine is in the car btw. thanks!
@CodytheCarGuy10 жыл бұрын
Yes it takes a lot to get it on then after you slide it over the pulleys' water pump, crank and cam it will loosen up some. I actually use a flat piece of metal to help slide it on.You dont need a special tool for the tensioner , anything like a small allen to hold it back will work then just simply line up the arrow to the v , tighten it and your done.
@nfocus824610 жыл бұрын
This thing KICK MY @$$!!! Everytime I thought I had it, the crank would turn a few teeth backwards. I finally got it to work by a) turning the crank a few teeth forward to account for it turning back and then b) sliding the tensioner halfway off the bolt it sits on. Had to get a lil mirror to line the the "V" and tha arrow and guessed my @$$ off as to what 15 ft/lbs feels like with a wrench. LOL.. The sad thing is. I saw a youtube video where a guy slipped his belt back on with tons of room to spare. That made me really think I was doing something wrong. you really ought to post part 2. People would probably vote for you if you ran for office. :) Thanks for responding.
@CodytheCarGuy10 жыл бұрын
Nfocus Onu yeah ive seen a few that people seem to have plenty of slack with the belt but i always seem to get the ones that are tuff to get on myself but i rather it be tight than too loose. As long as you got it in the middle of the v and tightened it then you are good. I always rotate the motor by hand a few times to make sure nothing hits and if nothing makes contact then your good. Yeah ill have part two up for the second time here soon. Ill have more jetta videos going up as well

@CodytheCarGuy10 жыл бұрын
depends cuz a cabrio is a way diff 2.0 for those years and a 2.0 pre 99 is also different and some have fly by wire throttle bodies and some are cable you just have to look also some older are distributor and then they go to a whole diff system after 98
