@@Juppie902, or just don’t be an idiot. Evacuate the refrigerant into an empty container, break the seal on the system, replace your part, close up the system, place under vacuum and let it set for 15-30 minutes, start the car and run the compressor, reintroduce refrigerant back into the system. REPAIR COMPLETE. You don’t need to go to a shop. You don’t need to blow all the refrigerant into the atmosphere and ozone, then pay for more. It could be a simple 20 dollar fix if you know how to do it and have the proper equipment or have a friend that can do it for you. This isn’t drink the beer and try to wobble shit together in order to fix your car. If you don’t know how then learn the right way or pay someone to do it.

Biomedman82 no you do not need to remove the entire compressor all you do is take the mud flap down from the passenger side unbolt the compressor undo the service shield underneath the car and pulled down slowly and even pressure down to the bottom radiator hose the only tricky part about it is to get the snap ring out with that type of angle so it would be best to have a second set of hands

Thanks for this info, it saved me big bucks and the fix was easy! To my pleasant surprise, on my 2011 Jetta TDI, I was actually able to replace the valve with the compressor still fully installed. The hardest part of the whole job was just getting the car up on jackstands so that I could work under it. A $1600 repair bill was reduced to a $20 valve, $10 R134a, and a bit of my time. Thank you! Same as what you showed, the new valve looked different (longer) than the original, but it went right in and works perfectly.

There is an easy fix for the delay start ac, stops at idle, or low cooling. Remove the freon from the compressor, add approx 250 ml oil into the compressor, and than add the froen. The oil will lubricate the solenoid valve and ac will work perfectly fine. I have tried this method and well satisfied.

Higher than normal suction side pressure (has to be around 30 psig to produce adequate cooling) and lower than normal high side pressure always points to a faulty compressor control valve. When both pressures are very low at the same time, refrigerant weight might be low.

Remember one thing with these clutchless compressors: their internals are always operational, whether the AC is on or off. If you ever damage the condenser (collision, road debris, rocks et cetera) and everything leaks out, immediately turn the engine off and have the car towed to a competent body shop/mechanic who will replace the damaged parts, restore AC circuit hermecity and refill the AC system. No refrigerant means no lubrication for these compressors. Without refrigerant, they soon seize up.

@@_Drekavac_ You guessed it correctly, all refrigerant will violently (valve will shoot out like a bullet kind of violently) leak out at once if you remove the compressor's solenoid control valve. All the refrigerant needs to be recovered before the solenoid control valve is removed from the compressor.

@@teravolt6113 thanks! I think its the solenoid for me because the refrigerant didnt leak. When i turn on the AC the air temperature doesnt change and i hear a wierd sound coming from the vents, so that could mean the the compressor is fine? I did some vcds testing (i dont know much about this) but i think the pressure showed 2.6 bars and 800mA of current, not sure tho. I just hope its not the compressor cause that would be around 200€ 😬
@teravolt6113
@teravolt6113 3 жыл бұрын
@@_Drekavac_ Depends which weird sound you're referring to. A hiss means no refrigerant. A motorboat/robot sound with no hiss can either mean refrigerant getting low or faulty control valve (in reality it's a combo of very little refrigerant flowing through evaporator+compressor operating in lowest displacement; it's basically the reed valves resonating through the suction line)

Took it to the mechanic, and at first he said”it loooks like it might have been overcharged, and we have been evacuating a lot of air and moisture.” I was hopeful at first but then he comes out like 20-30 min later saying compressor is bad, we need to replace it, replace the condenser, the valve and the drier. Total cost of 1700. Now I’m wondering I were to do this, would it let me know that it should work? Would I still need to recharge it so I can see if it works?? Thanks! And recommendation or tips lol

They are very specific valves, don't fit all compressors. Check diagnostics before thinking of buying one of these valves. Ensure there is gas pressure but no power through the compressor. Remember that any pipework removed should have new o rings fitted and oiled, system must be properly evacuated and then recharged with the correct amount of gas. Obviously leak check. Not a 5 min cheapy job so think before you undertake. 👍 Oh.. Try to remember what circlip is too 😁

I've been struggling with very very similar problem with my Audi A3 2010 HVAC since it went for the 60k(I guess) km periodic service. As soon as I took the car from the Audi dealership, grabbed the phone and called right away to say that was more than 30Cº outside and the car just did not cooled the cabin like before. Just didn’t made cood as before and could not cooled me inside the cabin. They regassed it, adjusted the vents, improved but was never like before. I live in Southern Europe and in Summer I get 40Cº days and this car when was brand new refreshed the cabin in 2 minutes of A/C working. Just from the start of the engine, even before it got to operating temperature, against what Audi technicians say (BS from them). Can a bad service ruin the solenoid or compressor ? I don’t know if this is my exact problem, but I should try it. Do any of you have the same problme as me and solved it replacing this solenoid ? PS :What makes me mad is that Audi technicians just don’t know how to diagnose this and they just replace the all compressor unit. They should be the first ones to know what’s wrong with the car. Thanks a lot you guys for letting this out to other people.

Does the compressor still turn if the solenoid is bad?! Thanks in advance for any help offered.

The compressor always turns if it ain't seized. It's clutchless. It simply can't adjust to cooling demand properly

Hi I think I have the same fault. My Sharan 7n ( new shape) aircon works for a few minutes but it is almost as though the refrigerant is not being pumped around system. I've had it re-gassed so there is gas in system. Is it possible to change the solenoid on the compressor in situ after de-gassing? many thanks. alan .p

HI Man! I have just added gas to my AC for the Skoda octavia 2005, it gives an air that it colder than outside but its not as cold as it should be, someone said probably your compressor is weak! how to diagnose and know whether its the part you replaced or the whole comp? and is it easy to remove the comp?

danduun yes sir that is a great question what you will need is to go by Harbor Freight get yourself a cheap set of manifold gauges for 134a systems check both of your high and low ports your coolant should be around 35 PSI for the low side which is the blue and around 1:40 to 1:55 maximum for the red side if you have over pressurized your system it's like having more detriment to the system being overcharged than it is under charged if you feel like you need any other questions answered feel free to email me at handymanofRVA@gmail.com and remember stay cool my friend

You can buy it on Amazon. Just make sure to buy the right one for your compressor so I would look on the compressor if you don't know.

Electric is good. My compressor turns (clutch is okay). Checked coolant pressure and it was OVER pressurized. Safely removed all coolant and recharged. Nothing. Is this the proper diagnosis? If my compressor IS turning, is it likely a bad solenoid, or would the "switch" prevent the compressor from turning entirely? Just want to verify.

Your last victim I'm in a similar boat as these guys. Compressor pulley activates when fans & a/c turned on, but I only get warm air out. When I connect gauge to the low pressure hose it goes up into the red. Everything is stock, 02 tdi Jetta. Any input you might have is appreciated.

Guys, the system isn't overfilled, you're just seeing high pressure on the low side because the compressor isn't working.

All vw compressors are not the same. They make look the same but are not. Some are not held in by a snap ring. I have yet to see a video of a bolted one yet.

You more than likely could. It would be a tight squeeze but its definitely doable. I've done it on my 2012 jetta. It is kind of a pain to take the solenoid out. So if you can't get it off while it's in there then it will definitely be a lot easier to just take it off completely.
